Darwin Australia (2019) // Mountain Bike Training at Charles Darwin National Park MTB
We finally made it into Darwin City and back to saltwater which we had been missing. Just to see the beach again was enough for us.
For our accommodation while in Darwin we chose a little farm stay out of town to base ourselves which was close to mountain biking tracks and the doggy park for Lewis.
On the agenda for the week was some long hard training days on the mountain bikes and sightseeing. First stop in Darwin, the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
We also check out the Mindil Beach Markets Darwin, the Skycity Casino Darwin and we drop by the Darwin Airport to pick up a very special friend, Miss Jen
The days before picking up Miss Jen we get into some serious mountain bike training for our upcoming cape to cape stage race in the Margaret River and Lena really feels the burn from k's and chucks a tantrum!!
With our VIP friend in hand we head to Britz Rentals to collect Jen's home for the next week as Jen is joining us to see the sites of Kakadu.
Lewis unfortunately cant come on this part of the journey so we found a lovely pet sitter via Madpaws to look after him and he was very happy.
Before leaving Darwin City to head to Kakadu, there were a few last minute attractions to squeeze in with Jen. One of them happened to be the Darwin Military Museum. While a lot of the exhibitions were static, there were quite a few interactive experiences and movies which gave you some sense of insight and appreciation as to what it could have possibly been like not all that long ago. We only spent a few hours there, as we underestimated it's size and scope of historical artifacts. If your interested in visiting, we suggest to get in early and plan to spend the day.

Darwin
Darwin is the perfect destination for travelers, honeymooners, adventure enthusiasts and photographers. Tourists can make the most of the Aborigine culture, the Arnhem Land, the Litchfield National Park and the Kakadu National Park. A large number of options for sightseeing and an extensive range of activities are offered at Darwin.
Darwin is located in the Larrakia country. It was after Sir Charles Darwin that the Port of Darwin was named. This was before the Origin of the Species was published. The region has been appropriately named due to the teeming number of ancient and unique mammals, bird, reptiles, and bird species seen here. In its history Darwin has faced devastation twice due to bombing by Japan during the Second World War.
The ruins can still be seen and are a major attraction for tourists coming from different destinations across the world. Darwin Town Hall and the Palmerston constructed in 1983 are the most ancient buildings which are a popular tourist attraction. As of now it is home to the Darwin Theatre Company. Lawns are well manicured, streets are wide and buildings are expansive and low. The foliage in bright color, high tides of the ocean and lots more keeps attracting travelers from destinations nearby and abroad. Though Darwin city is small in size it does have all the major facilities required.
The Esplanade facing Port Darwin's west bay offers some of the best sunset seeing opportunities. The bay faces houses in beautiful tropical style and many luxury hotels. Numerous fish species like milkfish, catfish, mullet, shovel nosed ray fish etc. can be seen at Esplanade's northern end at Aquascene.
East Arm Wharf is a deep water port in Darwin with a wharfline up to 754 m and many of the tourist places in Darwin are connected with ferries from the mainland.

WIKIPEIA
Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory, Australia. Situated on the Timor Sea, Darwin has a population of 114,368, making it by far the largest and most populated city in the sparsely peopled Northern Territory, but the least populous of all Australia's capital cities. It is the smallest and most northerly of the Australian capital cities, and acts as the Top End's regional centre.
Over time Darwin has grown from a pioneer outpost and small port into one of Australia's most modern and multicultural cities. Its proximity to Asia makes it an important Australian gateway to countries such as Indonesia and East Timor. The Stuart Highway begins in Darwin, ending at Port Augusta in South Australia.
The city itself is built on a low bluff overlooking the harbour. Its suburbs spread out over some area, beginning at Lee Point in the north and stretching to Berrimah in the east – past Berrimah, the Stuart Highway goes on to Darwin's satellite city, Palmerston, and its suburbs.
The region, like the rest of the Top End, has a tropical climate, with a wet season and a dry season. It receives heavy rainfall during the Wet, and is well-known for its spectacular lightning.
The original inhabitants of the greater Darwin area are the Larrakia people. On 9 September 1839, the HMS Beagle sailed into Darwin harbour during its surveying of the area. John Clements Wickham named the region Port Darwin in honour of a former shipmate, famed scientist Charles Darwin.
Having been almost entirely rebuilt twice, once due to Japanese air raids during World War II and again after being devastated by Cyclone Tracy in 1974, the city is one of Australia's most modern capitals.

This Park protects areas of natural and cultural significance. It protects part of the Port Darwin wetland, one of Australia's most significant wetlands. It protects locally significant woodlands too. Port Darwin is recognised as a nationally significant wetland because it is large, (48 sq. km) and diverse. Thirty-six of the N.T.'s 51 mangrove species occur in its convoluted system of inlets, islands and bays. The Park lies on Frances Bay in Port Darwin, and includes the western bank of Sadgroves Creek, Reichardt Creek and part of Blessers Creek. Housing and industrial estates are its neighbours.

Life In Darwin, Australia 2019
Darwin, Australia is our home for this instalment of Travel Thoughts. Inessa and I did a housesit here and explored the area. It was a refreshing change after the hustle and bustle .of South East Asia. The area is lovely and green. We kept an eye out for spiders, snake and crocodiles. In fact, you can't really swim in Darwin—not only because of the occasional lone crocodile but also the many box jellyfish that are in the water. Supermarket prices are a reminder that you are in a Western country. South East Asia has many fans because of its relatively low prices, and Australian prices are similar to those in Europe, the US and Canada. There are many places in Darwin to check out, including museums, parks and natural wonders such as Litchfield park, which is about an 80-minute drive.

Charles Darwin Walk | Blue Mountains Australia
In this episode, I visit Blue Mountains National Park and walk in the footsteps of Charles Darwin - the famous English naturalist, geologist, and biologist. Darwin visited the Blue Mountains briefly in 1836 towards the end of his famous five year voyage aboard the HMS Beagle. He walked along the Jamison Creek to the top of some sandstone cliffs that provided a stunning view of the Jamison Valley and described the scene as an “immense gulf.”
I continue farther to another famous track known as the National Pass; which was originally built in 1906 using picks, shovels, crowbars, and dynamite. It seemed I walked up/down 10,000 stairs that day - my knees were aching, but I would definitely do it again in a heartbeat.
This video is part of a series of videos depicting my travels in Australia as I lived there for an entire year on a “Work and Holiday Visa.” Please consider subscribing for more videos from the beautiful land down under as well as other backpacking and adventure travel videos!

Darwin, the tropical capital city of Australia's Northern Territory
Darwin, a small yet cosmopolitan city, is the tropical capital city of the Northern Territory. People from more than 50 nations make up its population of 110,000. It is located on the Northern Territory coast, with the Timor Sea to the west, and the Arafura Sea to the north in Indonesian waters.
Darwin has a relaxed lifestyle and unique multiculturalism, where people from over 50 different cultures live and work side by side. The regular Asian-style markets form an intrinsic part of the everyday Darwin landscape, for local residents see food, music, language, and culture from just about every Asian nation, alongside crocodile hunters, local Aboriginal artists, musicians of every genre, sports fishing operators, sunset sails, and families with children playing on the beach. Darwin's unique cosmopolitan makeup has been recognised as an multicultural icon of national significance by the Australian National Trust.
Darwin was first named in 1839 by John Lort Stokes during the third voyage of the Beagle. It was named after his former shipmate and famous naturalist Charles Darwin. Darwin's development was accelerated by the discovery of gold at Pine Creek, about 200 km south of the city in 1871. After the gold rush Darwin's growth slowed mainly due to the harsh, tropical climate, distance and poor communications with other Australian cities. The Second World War put Darwin back on the map when the town became an important base for Allied action against the Japanese in the Pacific. The road south to the railhead at Alice Springs was surfaced, putting the city in direct contact with the rest of the country.
Modern Darwin is one of Australia's most cosmopolitan cities, more open to Asia than perhaps any other Australian city. It plays an important role as the door to Australia's northern region. Natural wonders such as Kakadu, Katherine Gorge, and Litchfield are all within driving distance from the city and still contain near pre-colonial populations of crocodiles, goannas, snakes and wallabies. Today Darwin is a fast growing regional centre that has unique history, culture and adventure.
Darwin's tropical climate has two major seasons: the 'dry', from about May to October, and the 'wet', from November to April. There is also the 'build up', the time from the end of the dry, leading into the wet when the humidity rises, but the rain doesn't fall. The arrival of the wet is always a welcome break from the buildup.
Darwin is also the only Australian capital city to have come under substantial attack during a war. On 19 February 1942, Japanese planes made two major air raids on Darwin from the aircraft carrier fleet that had attacked Pearl Harbor less than 3 months earlier. These were the first of 64 air attacks sustained by the city during World War II, the last being on 12 November 1943.

Darwin City Video Guide | Expedia
Darwin is the capital of the Northern Territory, in the “top end” of Australia.
Traditionally the home of the Larrakia People, Darwin was settled by Europeans in 1869. The city’s isolation has meant that its population has always been low, which is just the way its laid-back residents like it.
On Thursdays and Sundays, locals and visitors head to the Mindil Beach Markets to shop, dance and enjoy foods from all over the world. At sunset, head down to the beach as the sun dips into the Arafura Sea, then catch a movie under the stars at the Deck Chair Cinema.
Learn about the city’s military history, at the Defense of Darwin Experience and the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre. At the Darwin Museum and Art Gallery, discover the region’s local cultures and unique natural environment.
To experience the Northern Territory’s most fearsome residents, pay a visit to Crocodylus Park and Crocosaurus Cove, home to some of the largest captive saltwater crocodiles on the planet.
There are over 20 national parks in the Darwin region, including popular Litchfield National Park. Just an hour and a half from Darwin, Litchfield is set around a sandstone plateau, crisscrossed by deep, narrow gorges filled with monsoon forests, waterfalls and croc-free swimming holes.
Kakadu National Park is a three-hour drive from Darwin. Half the size of Switzerland and home to one-third of Australia’s bird species and some of the world’s oldest rock art, Kakadu is more than a national park, it’s a national treasure.
