I can proudly say that I was there - and confirm no cruelty to the humans involved. ☺
Compere for both events was Shaun Radnedge, Zorro’s Meats, a local butchery. Good job, mate.

What my video can’t convey is the sense of community and the happiness of kids safely running free in this beautiful, friendly town.
Some of the many things so valuable about the bush – the fun, friendliness, safety, families and sense of community that prevails despite the ongoing harsh drought.
Our best wishes to all in the bush in Queensland for a very happy, safe and successful new year.
Meeting Local Legends in Charleville
Ken & Mary Read and their son Gordon live on the Quilpie Road just outside of Charleville in Queensland.
They often display old horse-drawn wagons at their front gate.
We could not resist meeting the characters behind these old buggies. Ken entertained us with this poem about his childhood.

Teaching the teacher at Mt Morris Stn, Charleville Qld
As our time here at our home is drawing to an end, this beautiful station continue to reveal secrets, almost as if it knows there is a change about to happen.
Part of Mt Morris history forever more, will be the numerous guests to the station.
Sophie, will be the last of those guests who has been helping the family with the education of its most precious gems, Linda.
On Monday 12/05/2014 was another special day. A beautiful sunrise again had us all in awe of every moment of the new day beginning.
But, today, Linda was to become Sophie's teacher and none of us knew it.
After the school day had finished 12.30pm Sophie's first horse ride on Bruce with all hands on deck to make sure this was a successful first time experience for Sophie.
From there, it was onto a guest horse by the name of Crusty. Crusty a gentle nature as well, had Linda on the front, with Sophie in the saddle. Linda was beginning to teach the teacher about horse riding, while Mum Jacquie rode Bruce and led Crusty with his special passengers for a special first time event out into the paddocks.
Sophie came back, then went for a ride with Jacquie on Bruce and she on Crusty (well yes, Sophie was still being led -- but had a wonderful time) saying I loved it, I loved it, how lucky am I.
The next big event, this very same day, was the introduction to another visitor to the homestead, a Woma or Bilby Python. These snakes are classified as Rare, Linda quickly teaching her teacher Sophie all about Woma's and to not be afraid of them. Showing her how soft they are, that they are a gentle creature, unless you are a rabbit of a Bilby of course!
So, a special thank you to a special young woman Sophie for becoming the student for the day, and engaging with your 5 year old teacher while inside the classroom you are the teacher, but outside on Mt Morris, here, is Linda's classroom she has taught you well
PS To Sophie's family and friends, we hope you enjoy seeing and sharing in some of Sophie's experiences while here, she really is a special young woman whom you should all be so very proud of - we are :)

A glimpse into Save the Bilby Fund's September citizen science 'Bilby Tracks' program. We travel from Brisbane via the Charleville Bilby Experience to Currawinya National Park and go behind the Bilby Fence where the area is being prepared for the reintroduction of bilbies. Bringing Back The Bilby | WWF-Australia
We western scientists are only now discovering from Traditional Owners that the bilby is still widespread, although apparently declining, across the Kimberley. It is our hunch the Kimberley region in northwest WA maybe one of the last few strongholds for this well-loved Aussie marsupial.

From the Bilby Festival – why the bilby’s worth celebrating
The #bilby needs all the friends it can get, and I was thrilled to meet many of its supporters recently at Australia’s first ever #BilbyFestival at #Kiwirrkurra, in the Gibson Desert in Western Australia. Hear from them first hand why we need to save this wonderful marsupial, and please share this video to show you support the species as well.
Nolia Napangarti-Ward and her family hosted the festival to share #ThreatenedSpecies conservation techniques with Indigenous ranger groups from across Australia’s desert country. The bilby has been prioritised for action under Australia’s Threatened Species Strategy, and I’m proud the Australian Government contributed $40,000 to support practical fieldwork and management demonstrations at the festival. Find out more about the bilby, the festival and the Indigenous peoples, scientists, conservation managers and others involved in saving the species at facebook.com/tscommissioner
