Video tour of new Staffordshire Hoard Gallery – Birmingham
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
Visit the fascinating Staffordshire Hoard gallery at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery with Andy Horn, the Exhibition Manager and Pieta Greaves, the Hoard’s Conservation Manager.
The Hoard is the largest amount of Anglo Saxon gold and silver ever found in Britain and this permanent exhibition tells the story of the finding and conserving of more than 4000 objects.
Here the treasures are on display and their full beauty can be explored using the latest touch-table technology.
Visitors of all ages learn of the mysterious craftsmen who produced such fine jewellery using precious stones from the further reaches of the known-world to make adornments for the arms and amour of warriors who step out from the pages of “Beowulf”.
The stories of these men and women come to life in the “Mead Hall” within the exhibit where children can dress-up as Anglo Saxons.

How To Open a Pocket Watch
Vortic Watch Company presents How To Open a Pocket Watch. We convert antique American pocket watches into custom wristwatches.
Click here to see our step by step guide on our blog:
We get a lot of questions about how to open pocket watches so we thought we'd share a quick blog for you today. At Vortic Watch Company, one of the most common things we do is convert family heirlooms and other antique American pocket watches into our custom wristwatches.
The first thing we need to know before converting a pocket watch is where it came from and what specs it has. The only way to do this is by looking at the actual mechanism hidden behind the back cover of most pocket watches.
If you're like most people, you probably haven't spent a lot of time around these antique pieces, and therefore probably wouldn't know where to start when it comes to opening one up.

25 London Antiques by Washington Irving, unabridged audiobook
Genre(s): Horror & Supernatural Fiction, Travel Fiction, General Fiction, Romance, Short Stories
The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.
Washington IRVING (1783 - 1859)
The Sketch Book was first published in seven numbers/installments in the United States before being published in two volumes in London (1819-1820). The generally enthusiastic reception of Irving's sketches in England was unusual, since at the time British opinion of American literature was pretty low. Irving's sketches were formally innovative and successful--he is credited by literary historians as being the first American author to make a living as a professional author. In particular, as Irving explicitly makes reference to in a short essay concluding the second volume of the London edition, his intent was to create pieces that didn't necessarily hang together as a whole, but which were heterogeneous in nature. Irving's logic was that his miscellany was written for different humours and that his end was that it should contain something to suit each reader.
Apart from Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - the pieces which made both Irving and The Sketch Book famous - other tales include Roscoe, The Broken Heart, The Art of Book-making, A Royal Poet, The Spectre Bridegroom, Westminster Abbey, Little Britain, and John Bull. His stories were highly influenced by German folktales, with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow being inspired by a folktale recorded by Karl Musäus. Stories range from the maudlin (such as The Wife and The Widow and Her Son) to the picaresque (Little Britain) and the comical (The Mutability of Literature), but the common thread running through The Sketch Book - and a key part of its attraction to readers - is the personality of Irving's pseudonymous narrator, Geoffrey Crayon. Erudite, charming, and never one to make himself more interesting than his tales, Crayon holds The Sketch Book together through the sheer power of his personality - and Irving would, for the rest of his life, seamlessly enmesh Crayon's persona with his own public reputation. How to clean and oil a vintage sewing machine Part 1
Clear instructions on how to clean and oil a vintage sewing machine. Make sure you watch Part 2 for the end result. Provided the machine is not rusty and not damaged this is a straightforward job you can do
at home using very basic equipment. Use metal polish on all the steel and chrome, but take care not to get the metal polish on the japanned areas or decals. The decals can wear off if you use chemicals, so they are best cleaned with a little sewing machine oil on cotton wool. This is a Singer 28K dating from 1900, so it is worth the effort.

Coffee consumption has been outlawed in Mecca in 1511, and in Cairo next year, but this decision was withdrawn in protest against the population. After that, the first coffee shop in Istanbul was opened in 1554. For Exciting Deal on Coffee Table Visit
Coffee was introduced in England in 1430 by a Greek professor at Oxford, Ioannis Servopoulos, and hence along the path towards continued popularity today. Certainly, we have to thank the British and Dutch companies for this drink because of them it became accessible to Europe in the sixteenth century. The first European cafes were opened, starting in mid-seventeenth century London (1652), Boston (1670) and in Paris in 1671. As a measure of the popularity of coffee, these places have seen an impressive growth: in 1675 alone there were over 3000 in England.
Legend says that the first coffee shop opened in Central Europe in Vienna in 1683, after the Battle of Vienna, having defeated the Turks as a provider. Another story, more reliable, places the first cafes in Krakow XVI or XVII century, due to closer ties with the East, especially Turkey. For Exciting Deal on Coffee Table Visit
The first coffee plantation in the New World was founded in 1727 in Brazil, a country that relied mainly on African slave labor. The success of coffee in seventeenth century Europe was paralleled with the massive spread of the habit of smoking tobacco in the 30 Years War (1618-1648). For Exciting Deal on Coffee Table Visit
Coffee dust dating from the eighteenth century, but became popular only in 1901, when instant coffee was presented by Satori Kato from Buffalo Pan American Exposition. This type of coffee was the marketed under the name of Nescafé in 1939. Decaffeination process was developed by a man called Dr. Ludwig Roselius of Bremen. Caffeine is removed by water or solvents such as ethyl acetate. For Exciting Deal on Coffee Table Visit
