The monastic city that we see behind us was not built in one day. It was born in 1084. At the time, Bruno was joined by six companions and they came into the desert of Chartreuse in search of silence and solitude.

Nine hundred years later, the community is composed of 32 monks, 20 fathers, 10 brothers and two trainee monks, and over the past 900 years, they had various economic activities, they were ironmasters, farmers and cattle-breeders, and 400 years ago, they became liquormasters and engaged in the production of the famous Chartreuse liquor.

The father oversees the management of the liquor. The brother is in charge of milling and supplying the plants. Then, we go and get the bags of plants at the monastery, and we work a little bit like cooks with a recipe, because the 130 plants are not all distilled at once.
