The Saint-Emilion Jazz Festival can't take place in the Saint-Emilion village without paying tribute to it's greatest heritage: wine!
Nile Rodgers, the great American guitarist from Chic, Tommy Lipuma, the famous music producer but also Monty Alexander, a famous Jamaican pianist and Minino Gray, an Argentinian percussionist: all describe the magical relationship between jazz music and Saint-Emilion wine.
Following Dominique Renard, the festival's president and founder, we discover the Saint-Emilion village and the festival's concert stages: the Dominicain's room and the Palais Cardinal's moat. An opportunity to meet between two concerts: Alain Juppé, mayor of Bordeaux and the Jurade de Saint-Emilion. Proof of that love between wine and jazz, the Jurade's anthem was composed by Jacky Terrasson, the famous jazz pianist.

TOUR OF SAINT-EMILION
Saint-Emilion is a charming medieval village located in the heart of the famous Bordeaux wine area. In 1999 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is well known for its wineries, delicious Grand-Cru wine and beautiful architecture.
As it is only about 40 minutes’ drive away from Bordeaux, we decided to stop by for few hours to explore the town.
MAIN ATTRACTIONS at a glance:
????MONOLITHIC CHURCH and its BELL TOWER - the largest monolithic church in Europe. You can climb the tower (198 steps) to be rewarded with beautiful views of the village (get the ticket and the keys from the nearby Tourist Office – personally, we only climb the King’s Tower and the views were amazing!)
????KING’S TOWER (La Tour du Roy) - climb the 118 steps to the top for some stunning panoramic views of the town and the surrounding vineyards.
????CORDELIERS CLOISTER - remains of a 14th century monastery and medieval herbal garden, now converted into a wine bar
???? GREAT WALL (Grandes Murailles) - unrestored remains of a XIII century Benedictine monastery that collapsed for the most part
????COLLEGIATE CHURCH and its cloister – imposing Romanesque church with a beautiful 14th century cloister, one of the most impressive in the Gironde region
???? CADENE’S GATE and CADENE’S HOUSE – located on Rue Guadet
????TERTRES – narrow steep cobbled streets
???? PUBLIC WASH HOUSE
????MAISON DU VIN (Wine House) - amazing selection of wines from local wine estates - they also do wine tastings

Château Laniote - 2013 - Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé
Château Laniote - 2013 - Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé tasted by the Best Sommelier in the World Andreas Larsson.
Plum, Wild Berry, Delicate Style
Red wine with a medium towards deep ruby-red colour. Still youthful on the nose, fresh with a good emphasis on fruit here, combining red and dark fruits with some gently spicy notes, a hint of licorice, a discreet touch of wood. Palate has a medium weight, still with a youthful freshness and a youthful appearance. The tannins are rather integrated already. We have quite high acidity, giving a lift to that rather red fruity character, with plum and wild berry notes. Just a gentle hint of wood here. Obviously it feels like a slightly lighter example from a lighter vintage, but it’s well-balanced in this quite delicate style, offering a quite good drinkability already. Well-balanced and lighter-bodied, but still has a good length with that juicy red fruit on the finish.

Dense ruby core starting to lose the purple hue. Pure nose of dark plum and wild berries with some floral and herbal notes. Dense palate, discreet oak, youthful with young tannin, crushed dark fruit, herbal and peppery notes with a medium to long finish.
