Chateau of Valençay: Most underrated castle of the Loire Valley, France

The Chateau of Valençay might not be the most famous chateau in the Loire Valley of France, but it is a charming estate with both a beautiful renaissance castle and a great park. The most famous owner of the chateau of Valençay was Talleyrand, Napoleon's chief diplomat. But the most amazing part of the castle of Valençay are the kitchens where chef Antonin Carême was preparing amazing meals for Talleyrand's guests. Although it is a bit out of the way, the castle of Valençay is one of the top castles in the Loire Valley of France. They also grow Loire Valley wine on the property, which they sell at the souvenir store.

The chateau of Valençay is not a medieval castle. The original medieval castle was raised to make room for the current Renaissance chateau, but they still have the old keep (old donjon) as the reminiscence of the medieval castle that used to be there.

This is a full-bodied New-world style Bordeaux. It's Fruit forward and in your face with refined tannins. On the nose, you get black raspberry, boysenberry, blackberry, bright plum fruit, toasty oak, charred wood, and vanilla. On the palate, it's gravel, rocks, sandy, gravelly soil, and plum. Will go great with meats on the barbecue.

En el año 77 se calculaban unas 18.000 iglesias, monasterios y catedrales deterioradas o en peligro de desaparecer en Francia. Gracias al trabajo y a la iniciativa particular de apasionados por la historia, la arqueología y el patrimonio francés, como el periodista Pierre de Lagarde o L' abbé Giry germinó un gran movimiento conservacionista que logró restaurar un gran número de esos edificios históricos.

Pierre de Lagarde (né à Meudon le 25 mars 1932) est un historien producteur et réalisateur de télévision français. Il a consacré sa carrière à la protection et à la valorisation du patrimoine architectural de son pays.

Il a produit et réalisé l'émission Chefs-d'œuvre en péril, diffusée de 1962 à 1975 à la télévision française.

L'abbaye Sainte-Marie de Fontcaude est une ancienne abbaye de Prémontrés du xiie siècle, située sur la commune de Cazedarnes dans le département de l'Hérault, dont elle constitue en fait un hameau, en bordure du territoire de Cazouls-lès-Béziers. Le nom signifie « fontaine chaude» en occitan.

L'église et le bâtiment conventuel ont fait l’objet d’un classement au titre des monuments historiques depuis le 1er août 1975

Soumise au délabrement durant le xixe siècle, elle fut redécouverte notamment à l'initiative de l'abbé Giry (également maître d'œuvre à Nissan-lez-Ensérune) en 1969. L'association Les Amis de Fontcaude a entrepris un long travail (qui fut primé dans le cadre de l'opération Chefs-d'œuvre en péril) pour la restaurer. Ainsi furent consolidés ou mis au jour l'église Sainte-Marie, des éléments du cloître, de la fonderie de cloches et du moulin.
