Château Léoville Barton Saint-Julien | Bordeaux Wine Review
Detailed wine review, rating and full tasting notes of 2012 vintage Château Léoville Barton, Saint Julien, Bordeaux Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux red wine, France.
Watch the full episode of Tasting with Julien' featuring the complete winery information about the properties of Barton & Guestier family, Leoville Barton and Chateau Langoa Barton 2009 vintage, some of the best Bordeaux wines, classified Grand Crus, as well as the complete information about the Médoc wine region of Saint-Julilen on Bordeaux' left bank of the Garonne River:
Château Léoville Barton is a winery, vineyard, and wine estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux’ Left bank, Médoc, ranked a second growth in the 1855 Classification.
The château building that features on Léoville Barton’s label belongs to Langoa-Barton, Léoville Barton's sister estate.
The vineyard nestles in the heart of the St Julien terroir among the most beautiful slopes of Garonne gravel, facing the Gironde river. The clayey gravel subsoil allows excellent growing conditions whatever weather the vintage brings. The plowing is traditional, without weeding or herbicide. The grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon (74%), Merlot (23%) and Cabernet Franc (3%).
The harvest was done entirely by hand. After the de-stemming, the berries are carefully sorted, crushed and poured in wooden vats thermo-regulated, according to their plots. The alcoholic fermentation lasts from 7 to 10 days and the extraction is always respectful of the juice by adjusting the number of pumping depending on the cuvées and the vintages. The maceration is about 3 weeks then the juice is drawn in barrels, lot by lot. The wine is then aged between 16 and 18 months in French oak barrels of which 60% are brand new, in a cellar maintained at 15 °.
The wines are topped up 3 times a week to avoid any contact between the wine and the air, the racking is traditional using the so-called à l'esquive method.
This 2012 vintage of Château Léoville Barton is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 14% Merlot.

Red Berries, Cassis, Green Herbal Spiciness
Red wine with a medium deep intensity, slight evolution on the rim towards tawny. Quite intense nose, certainly aged, far from primary fruit here, with some notes of leather, spice, sweet fruit; also some herbal notes, a hint of green pepper. On the palate I would say it’s a quite traditional style, with medium weight, pronounced tannin. An example where the tannins are just about to get around now, soften and integrating. Good level of freshness here, combining those red and dark berries, some cassis notes with leather, that green herbal spiciness. Quite long finish, still a bit restrained on the aftertaste; certainly a traditional style that would benefit from long aging. I would personally put it back in my cellar for another few years.

2014 Bordeaux Release & Tasting | Chateau Gloria, St. Julien
This is your first chance to taste and buy wines from the highly touted 2014 vintage. Tickets are now on sale for the highly anticipated 2014 Bordeaux Tasting and Release to be held on Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at Marquis Wine Cellars.
The tasting and release for ticket holders will run from 9:30am to 11am and after that time, the store will open and all remaining wines will be available to the public for purchase.
As Neal Martin of The Wine Advocate states, 2014 Bordeaux is a very good to excellent vintage....The leitmotifs of 2014 are freshness, terroir expression, an erring towards red rather than black fruit, crisp and occasionally quite edgy tannins and vivacity. These are wines destined to sing in the wine glass, wines less concerned with impressing critics like me, more intent on pleasing consumers like you (and me).
A total of 10 wines, representing most of the major region of Bordeaux, will be poured at the event. Among others, we will be pouring Château Calon Ségur, Château Léoville Poyferré and Château Pontet-Canet. This will be an excellent opportunity to taste a great selection of premium wines and to subsequently purchase them.
