I have been working here in this vineyard for two years. I work all year round. I don't just pick grapes. I also plant saplings and seedlings, I do pruning and tie up the fallen vines as well as weeding. The money goes to my family.

I don't work here in Meknes all year. I come from Agadir and have travelled here for the grape harvest. In Agadir I pick tomatoes and different fruits in other towns. My father and two brothers are also here working in the fields. We travel around wherever agricultural workers are required.

Here we take in the whole of our production. But that is not just what we grow in our vineyards. We use 30 per cent from outside suppliers, from farmers in the area. In fact we have a written agreement with each of them to provide us with grapes. This is in accordance with the legal and social obligations laid down by the law. So all the grapes arrive here, they are checked and then processed in the factory using modern methods, but combining them with tradition.

This is the only wine cellar in Morocco that has the rights to label its wine 'chateau'. In the case of our top-of-the-line product we pride ourselves on emphasising the authenticity of the wine. This is because in France the idea of wine bottled in the same chateau where it is grown adds to its character. This wine is bottled here in the chateau. We capture the true historical essence of the wine in every bottle.

Handpicking grapes to make wine is extremely rare these days.
But in Morocco this centuries old tradition remains a significant part of the process in a country where wine production is on the increase.
STORYLINE
Picking grapes from vines by hand can be a long and laborious job.
But it is one of the more lucrative harvests for the agricultural workers in this area which lies close to the Atlas Mountains.
The Celliers de Meknes is the largest Moroccan grower and producer with over 5 thousand acres of grapevines.
This provides jobs for hundreds of local people each year.
Rabha Abouda, a farm worker, says grape picking isn't just seasonal, but provides her with gainful employment all year round.

During the picking season both men and women work on the sunny plateau.
Karim Botbot says he is only here temporarily, just for the picking.
