2010 Chateau Tanunda Grand Barossa Riesling Wine Review
I got another wine that I have been trying to find for a long time now. Back when I took the course work for my WSET level 2, I tried a few Australian Rieslings in class and fell in love with them. However, I've been having a hell of a time finding them in my local market. Well, a local wine superstore was having a sale and one was there! Here's my review of the 2010 Chateau Tanunda Grand Barossa Riesling.
Update: Thinking back on this #wine, I'm pondering if the reason I had such a high plastic note is because of Brettanomyces contamination. This bacteria can cause wines to have a strong plastic smell or sweaty animal aroma. Still, I don't mind that as much as some so I stand by my rating, but it still makes me wonder...
►Vintage: 2010
►Varietal: Riesling
►Region: Barossa Valley, Australia
►ABV: 11.5%
►Price: $8

What I Drank Yesterday- Chateau Tanunda from Downunder
Proprietor/owner John Geber was in to show off his wine from Downunder. This is the oldest winery in Australia has some of the oldest plant material in the world. This property was owned by Penfolds, actually by Seppelt who was bought by Penfolds in 1977. John bought the property in 1998 and began the incredible task of restoring this historic property.
They have vineyards in the Eden Valley, they have 250 acres in Barossa and 200 acres in Cowra directly east of Sydney. Stuart Bourne is the winemaker formerly from Barossa Valley Estates the makers of E & E Black Pepper Shiraz.
These wines are classic Australian wines with excellent balance and more like the wines that people in Australia enjoy as opposed to the high octane wines that are popular in the U.S. market.
John is a man on a mission and is committed to growing this brand in Florida and we are working on putting together a special evening aboard his mega yacht to introduce these wines to our Wine Drinking people here in South Florida. Keep an eye on the Calendar of events for this tasting as it should be a great night of food and wine on a spectacular setting.
This is an informative wine production highlighting the wines at the Wine Watch, in Fort Lauderdale. It is intended as a companion to Wine Watch Email offers. For more information please visit winewatch.com
