Places to see in ( Arles - France ) Moulin de Daudet
Built in 1814, the Moulin Saint Pierre milled wheat for a century since it stopped in 1915. In 1935, the Society of Friends of the Mill Daudet decided to create a museum dedicated to Alphonse Daudet where would be gathered the works of the poet. Since 2012, this mill is visible from the outside but can not be visited from the inside being closed by its owner.
Symbol of the writer Alphonse Daudet and his work, the mill is open to the visit to Fontvielle. Recently renovated, it hosts in its basement a very nice museum illustrating the works and the memories of Alphonse Daudet. From its real name the Moulin Ribet, it was also called the Moulin Saint-Pierre.
It was built in 1814 and grinded wheat for a century since it stopped working in 1915. The great war made that we requisitioned both men and wheat, which finally signed the death sentence of the last Fontvieille mill.
In 1935 the association of Friends of Alphonse Daudet decided to restore it and at the same time create a museum dedicated to the author of the Letters of my Mill. The Château de Montauban, celebrated in the preface to the Letters of My Mill, was the resort, quiet and rest for the writer. It hosts the exhibition Fontvieille en Histoires evoking the painter Léo Lelée, the costume of Arlésienne and the crafts of santons de Provence are presented.
A 30-minute family run will take you from the municipal tourist office to the Château de Montauban and an hour-long itinerary from the Château will take you to the Alphonse Daudet Moulins Trail. Marked and dotted with interpretation terminals it will allow you to observe four mills, witnesses of a whole heritage and memories of trades of yesteryear.

Fontvieille is a French commune located in the department of the Rhone delta region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Located in the south-west of the Alpilles massif and north of Crau , near Arles , it is a town that lives mainly agriculture (several AOC) and tourism (mill Daudet ....).
The town of Fontvieille is located between the towns of Arles to the south and west, from Paradou to the east, Baux-de-Provence to the north-east and Saint-Etienne-du-Grès to the north. The provincial road 17 crosses the commune and the village on an east-west axis. The departmental roads 33 and 33a, 78f, 82 and 82a also pass on the commune.
Fontvieille has a train station on the track of the Alpilles train connected by the west to Arles . In the east, if this railway goes beyond the village, it does not exceed the limits of the town. The nearest motorway is the A54 , then the A7 to the east and the A9 to the west.
In the early Iron Age , when prehistoric habitats continue to be inhabited mostly new sites are colonized, as the plateau of Castelet, a low-lying plateau or Mount of Cordes. In the centuries preceding the arrival of the Romans, the territory of Fontvieille, like all the Alpilles, is populated by Ligures , Celts and Celto-Ligurians . Fontvieille is no doubt part of the territory of the Nearchi whose Ernaginum is the northern border, but also, perhaps, Anatilii , who live north of the Crau, whose Alpilles constitute the natural frontier
The town was founded in 1790 by deducting Arles territory. During this period it is enriched by the walled town of Estoublon xviii th century , the castle of Montauban and Halle covered still active ( xix th century ). There was still some of the dry marshes as historians report an unhealthy climate due to their presence. Agriculture produced wine, oil and fodder.
Stone quarries were in full production and materials shipped to Marseille via Arles. Alot to see such as Alphonse Daudet's windmill and Barbegal aqueduct and mill, a Roman watermill complex located on the territory of the commune.

Moulin d'Alphonse Daudet to Chateau Montauban
Fontvielle, Provence, France
The 19th century windmill Moulin d'Alphonse Daudet (originally called Ribet or St-Pierre) is on a hill above Fontvielle, a village in Provence, France. It was the inspiration for Alphonse Daudet when he wrote 'Letters from my Windmill,’ a nostalgic/humorous book on the lives of the people in the region. (This book can be downloaded for free in the original French, or in an English translation (other languages are also available) from Gutenberg.org.) The walk in the video continues past several other mills and ends at the Chateau Montauban, where Daudet lived for several years.
The watercolor in the title sequence of the video is a painting by Bill Woolf of the Moulin d'Alphonse Daudet.
The watercolor in the credit sequence of the video is a painting by Vincent Van Gogh of the Moulin d'Alphonse Daudet.
