Bell @ the Chatham Railroad Museum
Bill Shannon: Another one of the interesting displays in the museum I think is the big bell here. This gentleman and his wife lived over in Taylorville. He worked for the railroad for years and when they were scrapping the old steam engines he wanted one of the bells and, particularly, bell number 652 from that engine. He was in the Navy during World War II and served on PT Boat 652. So he spoke with the people scrapping the engine and he managed to get that bell which he can see right there on this picture. That little bell right there is actually the big bell we have in front of me! People like to ring it, especially kids. When they are 8 or 10 years old or so on up they love it. Little kids always cover their ears. Actually it is rather loud. I'll give you a demonstration. [rings bell]

This station was built in 1902, long before Amazon Prime the residents of this community and many others relied on trains to deliver freight such as furniture and farm supplies.
These tracks serviced passenger trains as well with The Western Union Telegraph and United States Express
After 70 years of service, the station was closed with the merger of Illinois Central and the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio.
The railroad is currently owned by Union Pacific
and is used for freight and Amtrak passenger trains.
The station is owned by the Village of Chatham and was restored by the Friends of the Depot in 1991.

Chatham is a seaside town at the southeastern tip of Cape Cod, in the state of Massachusetts.
