Raise The Bar For CF
Step 1: An owner or bartender is nominated for “Raise The Bar For CF” & accepts the challenge.
Step 2: The nominated person becomes a star for the night & must sing a song (of their own choosing) for their customers. The performance must be recorded.
Step 3: A collection will take place with all proceeds going towards helping people with CF in Ireland.
Step 4: All monies collected by the bar are donated to the ‘Raise The Bar for CF’ My Charity Page, under the name of your Bar.
Step 4: The recording is then posted to the ‘Raise the Bar for CF’ Facebook Page naming the bar, the singer and the amount collected.
Step 5: Nomination time! Your bar nominates the next bar to participate & the owner / bartender they want to take on the challenge.
If you cannot make it to your local to support their ‘Raise The Bar for CF’ challenge, you can still support the event by donating to the ‘Raise The Bar for CF’ My Charity Page and naming the Bar you wish to support in their fundraising efforts.
With your support we can Raise the Bar for CF. We are looking for 65 Bars to participate in this 65 Roses Challenge and to raise €65,000 to help people with CF in Ireland.
Results didn’t go entirely according to play in the second round of the Irish Independent Irish Laurels at Curraheen Park on Saturday.
Ante-post favourite Clonbrien Hero managed to overcome a moderate start to win his heat impressively but Paul Hennessy was the man of the night as he had four qualifiers for the quarter finals including the fastest heat winner Barefoot Painter. Graham Holland’s Clonbrien Hero (Razldazl Jayfkay/ Trout Or Salmon) was the evens favourite for the opening heat but he was in a tricky position to the bend as Chawke It Down led from Riverside Oscar. But Clonbrien slipped through on the inside at the bend to hit the front and from there he was in control as he came home two and a half lengths in front of Chawke It Down in 28.23 with Unknown Vision another two lengths third. On to Heat 2 where the race was really decided at traps as the Ian Reilly trained Dream Dude (Kisses For Cloda/ Greenbanks Kitty) broke best and led up from a tightly grouped field. He led into the back from Ela Alecko and Offshore Point. Dream Duke went on to win by a length in 28.48 but Arclight Bolt made up a fair bit of ground to grab second spot late by a head from Ela Alecko. FASTEST RETURN We had the fastest return in the third heat as the Hennessy trained Barefoot Painter (Ballymac Vic/ Kilara Cher) got away fast from trap three and led to the bend from Riverside Chip. Barefoot was never threatened as he ran out a four and a half length winner in 28.20. The chasing Riverside Chip and Killeacle Wayne were baulked on the third bend and Galmonian Wally finished second a head in front of Kilgraney Ace. Burgess Dubh was an absentee from Heat 4 and it was Clona Kid which led on the bend from Rosstemple Brae but was quickly pursued by Loskeran Vardy (Droopys Cain/ Loskeran Beauty) down the back. The Denis Fitzgerald trained Loskeran Vardy took it up on the third bend from Clona Kid and held off the flying finish of Jaytee Dutch by three parts of a length in 28.25. Rosstemple Brae took the third qualifying spot another three and a half lengths adrift. Again we had just five runners in Heat 5 with Dusky Oasis’ absence leaving trap one vacant. The two dog Affane Dark (Vans Escalade/ Affane Katie) duly took advantage as he led up from Creamery Bale and Cheer For Me. The latter was second down the back but the Kieran Lynch trained Affane Dark ran out a length winner in 28.44. Creamery Bale got up to finish a length second and was followed through by Rockybay Rover which made up considerable ground to qualify. IT’S DENVER AGAIN Tom Buggy’s first round winner Kilgraney Denver (Kinloch Brae/ Lady Kilgraney) gained another impressive victory when landing the sixth heat. He showed fine early to lead on the bend from Create A Star and Toker Forest. Kilgraney never looked like being overhauled and won by two and a half lengths from Toker Forest in 28.30 with Borsalino finishing strongly to be another half a length third. Graham Holland had his second heat winner when defending Laurels champion Skywalker Manner (Leeview Jet/ Jibberish) bounced back to his top form in winning Heat 7. This was the old Skywalker Manner as he bounced out of the inside box and led to the bend from Concrete Jungle. Skywalker was always in control and went on to win by three lengths in 28.30. Away Jet was only fifth on the back straight but came flying through to take second spot by half a length from Drive On Razer. The final heat of the round was won by the Tim Gilbourne owned Gulleen Billy (Westmead Hawk/ Gulleen Rose) as he took it up from Gwan Slab on the second bend and he was chased by Gilti Dazl. Gulleen Billy kept on strongly to hold Gilti Dazl by a length and a half in 28.46 with the favourite Beannacht Tagdh surviving a bumpy ride to finish strongly another length and a half third. Round 2 Con and Annie Kirby Memorial 2017
The second round of the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial Stake was run at Limerick on Saturday night and there was a change of guard at the top as the Graham Holland trained Lughill Robbie, which had been only third in the opening round, posted the fastest time of 28.56 when winning the opening heat.
Fastest first round winner Vancouver Shea was again in winning form but he only got up late to beat the improving Toocoolforschool. Graham Holland got the Kirby Memorial off to a great start when Lughill Robbie broke smartly from the inside and just led Chawke It Down to the bend. The Larry O’Rourke owned son of Superior Product and Lughill Sonya was a few lengths clear into the back. But Lughill Robbie was too strong and raced home two lengths ahead of fast finishing Borsalino which had half a length in hand of Chawke It Down in 28.56. It was Peter Cronin who was on the mark in the second heat and again it was the red jacket in command. The Stephen Carroll owned Cometwopass (Ballymac Eske/ Zero Two) showed the early pace up the rails to head Jaytee Warrior into the bend and he was never troubled afterwards as he won in 28.68. The market rival Coolavanny Pet was baulked on the first bend but made up considerable ground to finish a length and a half second and it was three and a half lengths to Ivy Hill Blitz in third. THE CHIMES RING The Johnny O’Sullivan trained Native Chimes (Premier Fantasy/ Native Gypsy) was a costly loser in the first round but he made amends for owners John Kelleher and Pat Norton when winning Heat 3. He was only third to the bend behind the fast starting Rathnasare Champ and Hazel Mixture. Native moved second early in the back straight and moved up to challenge into the third bend. But it was only in the final yards that he got past Rathnasare for a neck verdict in 28.63 with Hazel Mixture some five lengths back in third. There was a great battle in the fourth heat which was reduced to five runners with the withdrawal of Kerrydale Bertie. Toolcoolforschool was best away and led up the inside from the favourite Vancouver Shea. Toocoolforschool led Vancouver by a length and a half down the back but then the favourite closed the gap around the bottom. It wasn’t until close home that the Fraser Black trained Vancouver Shea (Tullymurry Act/ Steely Passion) forced his way to the front for a half a length verdict over Toocoolforschool in 28.75. Nitro Notorious was always third and came in a length and a half further adrift. BOCKO ON TOP Pat Buckley had two runners in Heat 5 and they had mixed luck in running. Bentekes Bocko (Tullymurry Act/ Tullig Paula) broke fast for owners Beverley Lochead and Austin Whelan and he led up from Killinan Rosie and Crossfield Kate. The latter pair bumped on the bend and baulked each other at halfway and dropped out of contention. Bentekes Bocko was clear from here and ran out a four and a half length winner from Clonbrien Hero in 28.75. It was then another two lengths to the third placed Allen Tank. We had a fair upset in Heat 6 where the Pat Guilfoyle trained Magical Vinny (Ballymac Vic/ Montore Lady) battled it out to win in 28.97. Magical Vinny showed good early to get up to lead on the first bend from Jaytee Barracuda on the inside while early leader Its Rockin Jim checked very wide on the bend. Magical Vinny was passed by Jaytee Barracuda down the back but Magical got back up the inside to join and head him around the bottom bend. Magical Vinny then raced on and at the line had one and a half lengths on Jaytee Barracuda in 28.97 and it was a similar distance to Its Rockin Jim in third. FOUR FOR RED The red jacket was on the mark in Heat 7 and this brought the total of red jacket wins in the round to four. It was the Paula Heffernan trained Higher Level (Head Bound/ Sillot Mo) which was in prime position to take advantage of some crowding on the bend and she shot clear to win easily in 28.81. The favourite Drive On Tipp wasn’t the best away but almost got to the front into the bend where he was involved in crowding. Higher Level shot to the front on the second bend and this strong stayer was always going to win from here. The 10-1 chance stormed home for a three and a half length verdict. Drive On Tipp stuck to his task to come through for second and he was just a short head in front of Droopys Giroud. The second heat featured another major upset as 8-1 chance Shewhodareswins (Droopys Jet/ Basket Of Trumps) led home 20-1 outsider Society St Ridle in 28.83. Crossfield Jack just led up but he was crowded on the bend and Society St Ridle led into the back. She was then collared by the C&C Partnership owned Shewhodareswins between the final bends and she went on to win by two lengths from fellow female Society St Ridle in 28.83. Frankies Lady came in another three lengths back in third.
