Tourists Flock to Floral Scene as Tulips Blossom in Central China
Over 11 million tulips have come into blossom to create a majestic sea of flowers by the Chaya Mountain in Zhumadian City of central China's Henan Province.
In a nearly 80-hectare field lies 59 different types of tulips, each with elegant names, such as the queen of night, the light of France, and the Chinese pink.
Besides dressing the Chaya Mountain in color, these tiny, delicate flowers have offered a steady boost to the local economy, creating 3,000 jobs for local town folks. With the blooming of the tulips, some 162 new rural inns have emerged to serve traveling tourists, giving their owners a 20,000 yuan annual income raise.
The tulip blossom will continue through to mid-May. With the arrival of the Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, the tulip field is currently receiving over 10,000 tourists a day during the holiday period.
