The second stop of our recent trip to Nantou County was Shuili, where we visited the Shuili Snake Kiln and had dinner at a meat ball and a duck meat restaurant. The Snake Kiln is a very interesting place and worth recommending. You can learn a few things about pottery, do some pottery DIY, have a coffee, and by souvenirs.

Checheng Village
This video was filmed on my mobile phone - Vicki's taken my decent camera to Spain with her!
Went back to to Shuili again today. One advantage of a long weekend is that I can go places when it's quiet. The last time I went to the Checheng Village, it was really crowded. Today, the car parks were empty, and there were very few people. A very relaxed visit.
Yen Szu Hsu (Sophia) and I walked up to village, and came back by train. Everything was so relaxed - the ticket office at Checheng was closed, and no-one could be bothered to take our fare at Shuili. A lovely afternoon.

{Trip} Nantou Trip_Jiji/南投之旅_集集
The first stop of our recent trip to Nantou County was Jiji, where we checked out the railway station and surrounding area, had lunch at a beef noodle restaurant, did a short 4-man-bicycle ride, and finally took photos at the Green Tunnel where we also saw the train on the Jiji Branch Line passing by.

Jiji Small Railway Line Tour (Taiwan)
The Jiji Line / Jiji Small Railway Line / 集集線 is a branch line of the Taiwan Railway Administration, located in Changhua and Nantou Counties in Taiwan with a length of 29.7 km. The line was originally built by Taipower to facilitate the construction of Mingtan Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant in Sun Moon Lake. Afterwards, the colony government purchased the route in 1927. The line was severely damaged in the 1999 Jiji earthquake on 21 September 1999, but was repaired and resumed operations in February 2002.
On Jiji Line, there are twelve runs everyday, however, only one runs between Ershui Station and Checheng Station, and the others travel between Taichung Station and Checheng Station. The headway between each number of runs is about two hours. Due to the line being single tracked, only one train can travel the full length at a time. Historically, only the TRA's diesel-powered trains could operate on the line due to the width of the line's tunnels. Following the renovations from 2010 to 2011, the Jiji Line became navigable to other types of trains.
A one-way ticket fare, from Ershui to Checheng, is NT$44 by mileage for adults. And, an unlimited-rides pass fare is NT$80, for used in one day. The Jiji Line ticket and one-day round-trip pass is available for purchase at all the following stations: Zhunan, Miaoli, Fongyuan, Taichung, Changhua, Yuanlin, Tianzhong, Ershuei, Dajia, Shalu, Douliu, Dounan, and Chiayi.

車埕 Checheng
車埕位於南投縣水里鄉明潭壩頂下方，在日治時期曾經因興建大觀發電廠以及木材業而興盛一時，也是振昌興木材場所在地，為了運送發電工程所需的設備、原料及南投木材，早期的車埕，是一人力台車的轉運站，在當時，車埕可是南投木材的重要集散地，人車總是絡繹不絕、熱鬧非凡，使得水里車埕一帶被稱為「小台北」，可見車埕當時的繁華盛況。
日治時代為了輸出埔里糖廠所產的蔗糖，於1916年開設埔里至車埕的輕便車鐵道，後來為因應大觀發電廠的興建，便拓寬車埕至二水間的七分車鐵道匯入西部幹線，1922年完工，成為今日的集集鐵路支線，工程技師、建築工人再加上輕便車的客貨運，為車埕帶來了前所未有的熱鬧景象；由於車埕的地勢平坦、腹地廣大，當時由埔里運出的蔗糖皆在車埕裝車轉運，常有上百台的輕便車停放於此，於是有人以臺語稱之為車場，因此這裡就叫做車埕；直到1937年電廠完工，工程人員撤離讓車埕這個小鎮又恢復原來的平靜。
當山林資源殆盡，政府在1995年起禁止伐木後，叱吒一時的木業公司也跟著關門，車埕也漸漸落寞，繁榮不再；現在的車埕正積極發展觀光，計劃以木材工業、電力、鐵道為推動主軸，許多木工廠已成廢墟現已成為著名的旅遊景點，結合鐵道文化與木材工業，開發出木製生活用具及木桶型鐵路便當盒，也受到民眾的歡迎。(資料摘自Yahoo).

CK124, a 2-6-2T C12 class locomotive built by the Japanese National Railways in 1936. This particular locomotive is in Taiwan and used rather frequently for special excursions.

Jiji / 集集 (Jiji Small Railway Line / 集集線)
Jiji / 集集 is the second most significant stop on the Jiji Small Railway Line / 集集線, famous for its Japanese history and the the Wuchang Temple / 武昌宮 which collapsed during the 921 earthquake / 九二一大地震 or Jiji earthquake / 集集大地震. The epicenter of the major 1999 earthquake in Taiwan was located in and named after the township. In March 2012, Jiji was named one of the Top 10 Small Tourist Towns by the Tourism Bureau of Taiwan.
Jiji Station / 集集車站 collapsed in the 9-21 Earthquake (1999) but it was rebuilt using the same Cypress structure but also reinforced with steel. In order to preserve its authenticity as much as possible, its roof tiles were replaced with others retrieved from collapsed Japanese buildings in the area.

First of all, watch it in 1080p if you're able to! Some of you might notice that I haven't been uploading for more than a week that's because, well you would've known by now, that I went to Taiwan for 11 days. It was my first time visiting Taiwan but it was her third time so I'm in safe hands lol. Free and easy in case you're wondering. It was an absolutely amazing trip, the Taiwanese people, food and places have been awesome throughout the entire trip. So fun that I'm thinking of going again next year. This video will definitely help me relive my moments in Taiwan when I miss it.
