Cheddar Gorge cheese company Road Trip UK
Road trip to Cheddar Gorge, we see where they make actual Cheddar Cheese and see Cheddar cheese company.
There is a lot to see and do in Cheddar Gorge and is a great day out for all the family and worthy of any road trip stop.
Cheddar Gorge is one of England's most iconic and spectacular landscapes and is partly owned by the National Trust. It is over 9,000 years old and was found in 1903. At 400 feet deep and three miles long, there is plenty to explore here.
When you're done exploring, head inside the caves, have some cider or fudge. Believe me, the flavours of the fudge will leave you smiling.

A circular walk along Cheddar Gorge.
12.9.2019
I start at the lay by on the B3135 (a few free parking spots) and start the climb up following the track.
Follow the track along the Gorge ,which gradually heads down to the lookout tower.
Then I walk down jacobs ladder reaching the road. Head right (east) and follow the road ,past shops and the caves, and keep following the road. Some great views here too looking up at the gorge!

Cheddar gorge england
Cheddar Gorge is a limestone gorge in the Mendip Hills, near the village of Cheddar in Somerset, England. The gorge is the site of the Cheddar show caves, where Britain's oldest complete human skeleton, Cheddar Man, estimated to be 9,000 years old, was found in 1903.[1] Older remains from the Upper Late Palaeolithic era (12,000--13,000 years ago) have been found.[2] The caves, produced by the activity of an underground river, contain stalactites and stalagmites.
Cheddar Gorge, including the caves and other attractions, has become a tourist destination. In a 2005 poll of Radio Times readers, following its appearance on the 2005 television programme Seven Natural Wonders, Cheddar Gorge was named as the second greatest natural wonder in Britain, surpassed only by Dan yr Ogof caves.[3] The gorge attracts about 500,000 visitors per year.[4]

Cheddar Gorge And Village Somerset.
Cheddar is a large village and civil parish in the Sedgemoor district of the English county of Somerset. It is situated on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills, 9 miles (14 km) north-west of Wells. The civil parish includes the hamlets of Nyland and Bradley Cross.
Cheddar Gorge, on the northern edge of the village, is the largest gorge in the United Kingdom and includes several show caves including Gough's Cave. The gorge has been a centre of human settlement since Neolithic times, including a Saxon palace. It has a temperate climate and provides a unique geological and biological environment that has been recognised by the designation of several Sites of Special Scientific Interest. It is also the site of several limestone quarries. The village gave its name to Cheddar cheese and has been a centre for strawberry growing. The berry crop was formerly transported on the Cheddar Valley rail line, which closed in the late 1960s but is now a cycle path. The village is now a major tourist destination with several cultural and community facilities, including the Cheddar Show Caves Museum.
