Scotney Castle
A country house, romantic garden, 14th century moated castle, all in a beautiful wooded estate
Relax in the garden with a fairytale castle backdrop, with over 770 acres of woodland to explore. Discover the delights of the Victorian country mansion with its secrets and stories; you might meet our much loved cat in residence 'Puss Puss'.
Besides its beautiful moated castle, country house, and one of the top ten formal gardens in England, Scotney Castle Estate also has 770 acres of woodland and parkland within its grounds that can be explored for free.
Scotney Castle Estate is open all year round, with a number of trails of varying length that pass through fields, wooded areas and the hop farm, up and down the valley and along the Bewl River. It is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
There is a dedicated visitor centre for the Estate grounds, with displays on the wildlife to be found nearby, as well as activities for children. The well stocked shop includes products from the Estate, such as beer and honey. If you are hungry or thirsty after your long stroll through the idyllic estate, there is a woodland picnic area if you’ve brought your own food, and an excellent tea room, serving hot and cold food throughout summer, and on weekends in low season.
Keith Harding live at Northleach Steam and Vintage Show 2013
We were very grateful to Keith Harding for taking time out from Keith Harding's World of Mechanical Music to exhibit and two instruments from the museum. This included the organ that appeared in the 2012 film Les Misérables (the dark brown organ with the red curtains in the video).
The World of Mechanical Music, Northleach, Gloucestershire, is a living museum of the extraordinary variety of self-playing musical instruments and automata which were the pride and joy of our Great Grandparents, and the only kind of canned musical entertainment available in the home before regular broadcasting started up in 1924.
All the instruments are maintained in the most perfect possible order in their world-famous workshops on the premises, and introduced and played by their well informed guides in the form of a live entertainment.
Admission charges are adults £8, seniors £7, Children £3.50, family ticket (2 adults 2 children) £19. Entry to shop is free.
Open every day 10:00 - 17:00 hrs, except Xmas and Boxing day (last admission to museum 16:00 hrs)
The World of Mechanical Music, a special place in the heart of England noted for traditional standards of British craftsmanship and hospitality. Here, in a period setting in the beautiful Cotswolds town of Northleach, is a unique collection of self-playing musical instruments presented as a live entertainment. Here is also what has been described as the best gift shop in the Cotswolds, and the world famous restoration workshops, which serve discerning collectors from all over the world.

Half wit outside Bibury
This guy was just stupid and impatient. He scared the crap out of the cyclist on the other side of the road. The white van was doing the sensible and responsible thing by waiting for the bike in front of him and us to clear each other and then he'd go. Not Mr Mondeo Man though ..... I swear these people will only stop when they actually hit someone and they get caught!!
What have hedgerows ever done for us? - How hedges benefit us.
We all know hedgerows are good for wildlife, but what have they ever done for us?
This video explores the many ways hedgerows work for us; from reducing soil erosion, producing shelter for livestock, providing a source of pollinators to pollinate our crops, store carbon to help combat climate change to name but a few!
We aim to provide a compelling case for creating good quality, well structured and well connected hedgerows, and show that a well managed hedge can be an asset to any landowner.

DEVELOPMENT AND LOCATION INFORMATION...
The Farrs, Dorrington
Shrewsbury Homes is currently developing new family homes in the picturesque setting of Dorrington. The area is often described as the gateway to the Shropshire Hills. The first stage is focusing on ten properties, both three-bedroom and four-bedroom.
The Farrs is a high quality development of contemporary three and four-bedroomed properties being offered by Shrewsbury Homes. Our leading, independent property development company has decades of house-building experience in Shropshire, specialising in the off-plan construction of family homes.
There are 23 properties planned for The Farrs but currently the Shrewsbury Homes team is working on Plots 5-14. Each of these plots are marked on the site plan above and can be clicked on to open the property’s layout.
As with all of Shrewsbury Homes’s developments, properties under construction can be bought off-plan, which offers a whole host of benefits to the purchaser.
Shropshire is an area of truly outstanding natural beauty. Glorious English countryside, rolling hills, valleys, woodlands, agricultural and pasture land; a rural county where living is less stressful and yet has plenty going on.
Thriving local communities, good schools, a better quality of life, excellent local facilities and easy access to the rest of the country.
Located midway between Shrewsbury and Church Stretton, the village of Dorrington could be described as the gateway to the South Shropshire Hills AONB. A village hall, primary school, church, 18th Century Coaching Inn, a popular restaurant, independent butchers and a Post Office all help to make this a thriving local community.
Within easy reach is Shrewsbury, the county town of Shropshire – a medieval market town (birthplace of Charles Darwin) steeped in history and lying adjacent to the River Severn. Modern shopping facilities complement the variety of interesting, independent traders on its picturesque cobbled alleys and squares. Black and white buildings, a sandstone Castle, an Abbey and many other historical buildings are reminders of a colourful past.
And Shrewsbury is still colourful; renowned for its floral displays, the annual Flower Show is one of the country’s largest horticultural attractions. Quality food and entertainment venues further enhance the enviable lifestyle enjoyed by Shrewsbury’s residents
