Meet and Greet at Kellys Pour Favor in Puerto Vallarta January 15 2019
Every time I come to Puerto Vallarta to record interviews for the show, I try to get in on JR’s regular Meet and Greet at Kelly’s Pour Favor Saloon and Cookhouse, on her rooftop patio overlooking Lazaro Cardenas. It’s right on a busy bus route, so there’s always action, and when JR has his meet and greets, there’s always action and that’s why I go.
This time around I was greeted by three, first a listener Steve, from Cadadia, the second was David Ostlund from Chef’s Pass Vallarta who’s got something new he’s doing that he wanted to tell us about, and the third was Denise from Colorado who saw the invitation to the meet and greet on Facebook, and decided to check out what it was all about, and all of these folks were great. I’m going to play all these interviews one after the other without any breaks or interruptions so let’s go right now to the rooftop patio at Kelly’s Pour Favor Saloon and Cookhouse, and let’s meet Steve, David and Denise…Take it away guys!!!!
Listen to the Podcast to hear what they said, the travel tips for Puerto Vallarta including restaurants, taco stands and lodging tips.

Tre Piatti Italian Restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
An interview with my guests, Chanan and Natalie from Tre Piatti Italian Restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. Tre Piatti is a real treat. The food is spectacular and the setting is elegant, and the proprietors are absolutely charming and dedicated to their craft. They love their customers and their clients, many regulars, love them back. Gary Beck introduced them to me. He raved about them and their food. So let’s meet Natalie and Chanan in Puerto Vallarta, at Tre Piatti Restaurant
Such a great couple and what fantastic food you guys. Now I spoke with Chanan yesterday, actually I recorded the conversation but the phone line was messed up so I’ll just pass along the information he gave me. Keeping in theme of Septihombre, Sunday was their last night of the season at Tre Piatti, but they have some big plans and I’m really excited for them and They are closed for 6 weeks and they are doing some renovations and making a cool
Chefs tasting bar that seats 4 people Wine pairing for each course. and seven courses he will cook and describe the dishes, the bar is a large slab of marble, they have special stemware and tableware for this special Chef’s tasting bar. The tasting bar is elevated so the people can see into the kitchen and see the food being prepared. It’s going to be a great dining experience for those who are going to be lucky enough to be able to reserve a seat at the chef’s tasting bar. He already has the first three nights sold out.
One of my favorite restaurants in Las Vegas does that, it’s like a chef’s table in the kitchen, So Cool. So good luck to you Chanan and Natalie, we’ll see you soon and see what cool things you have done and will be doing. Only in Vallarta my friends!
Well, that should do it for this episode of the Puerto Vallarta Travel Show.
Next week stay tuned for more on the ground reports from Puerto Vallarta Mexico, with travel tips, great restaurant and excursion ideas and more. Until then, remember, this is an interactive show where I depend on your questions and suggestions about all things Puerto Vallarta. VLOG | Puerto Vallarta Day 4 [7/6/17]
Yo! James here.
I decided to leave out day 5 because it was just packing up and leaving. Still sad that I deleted day 3. I didn't really plan to do a 2 minute rant, but that happened. It's a lot harder than it looks to just speak in front of a camera in your room alone. I also did a little bit more with the editing and such. Anyway, I probably won't be making anything for a while after this and I have a bunch of summer assignments I have to do anyway.

Puerto Vallarta Mexico ...What Surprised Me
We’re visiting Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for a week, and here are some of my thoughts on our first few days in this beautiful ocean side city. This is just my opinion and personal observation...if you’ve been to PV and have something constructive to add, feel free to articulate it in the comments. When we travel we try to be as un-touristy as possible, which isn’t easy in Puerto Vallarta where tourism is such a big part of the economy, but being a major tourist destination does make PV an easy gateway for first time visitors to Mexico. So far we’re loving it here...lots of things to see, friendly folks, great food, and kinda hot (if you’re into hot). I wish we were staying longer!

Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta Resort Review
First off, what an amazing experience. Once you pass the gates of the resort just outside of Puerto Vallarta, you will not need to leave the resort. It feels like there is a 100 pools and 100 restaurants. Not to mention the 3,500+ employees working at the resort to take care of anything you could possibly need.
Everywhere you look it's green, there are tasty drinks, live entertainment, interactive experiences, and delicious food! This was one of our favorite trips and locations to visit. This is the second time the kids have been here at the Grand Mayan and it takes an act of congress to get them out of the pool.
AGENDA:
1) A typical day is breakfast in the room or at a restaurant. You can do shopping at La Plaza which is decently priced or pack the essentials. Hit one of the pools. Happy hour goes from 11-3pm so 2 for 1 drinks are amazing.
2) Lunch can be at the pool or if you need to get some shade eat at one of the restaurants - you can't go wrong with a taco. Speaking of tacos, near the pool, they will deliver 32 peso freshly grilled tacos with a nice pineapple habanero salsa.
3) Back to the pool or the beach. The Pacific Ocean was pretty warm. Even could see an eel in the shallow water. At the hotel beach, there are tons of chairs with umbrellas, servers, and you can even order a drink in a pineapple or a drink in a coconut.
4) Quick lap or 2 around the lazy river, a visit to the mayan ruin tower slide, or one of the two wave pools.
5) Go to the room, clean yourself up and change.
6) Dinner - lots of choices from (of course Mexican), steak house, seafood, Italian, even teppanyaki or Asian fusion.
7) Live Music or catch a show. Every night has a different theme or style of music. During Christmas, they had a Christmas Tree lighting everyday at 6pm with live music and sometimes a visit from the Grinch. Some places even offer a second evening happy hour.
8) Get some rest and prepare to repeat the next day.
Other fun activities are near the pool or as on the App is a current schedule of all the activities at the Grand Mayan, Grand Bliss, Grand Luxxe, or Mayan Palace. Mila did enjoy a nice Little Chef Night at the Kids Zone for only 380 pesos for the night with dinner. She loved it.
If you don't want to walk, there are golf cart shuttles that can pretty much take you everywhere. It also looks like they are building a working train and gondola lift once the new theme park is complete. The theme park is supposed to be like the Mexico version of Disneyland.
Oh yeah, there are plenty of iguanas near the pool or in the jungle on the property - not aggressive. You might also see a cat or two.
Bonus Tip, pay in pesos on your credit card when you check out, it's usually a better conversion rate than at the resort.

Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico:
My wife Ying and I, and our baby Micah, traveled to Mexico with my friend Carlos and his family. I met Carlos many years ago in University in Phoenix, Arizona, and he’s originally from Sonora, in Northern Mexico. Throughout University, Carlos and I would eat Mexican food non-stop, and we dreamed of traveling in Mexico to experience more. Finally we made this trip happen!
We actually flew into Cancun, and then immediately drove down to Playa Del Carmen where we based ourselves. On our first day we decided to take a day trip to Tulum, a small town on the Riviera Maya coast, and one of the official historical port cities of the Maya.
Taquería Honorio - First things first, we started off with some breakfast tacos at a well known Mexican street food spot in Tulum. I had a mix of four different types of tacos, all of which were extraordinary, but probably the best was the lechon, the roast suckling pig. This is a must eat tacos restaurant when you’re in Tulum.
Price for my plate - 64 MXN ($3.45)
Ruins of Tulum - 70 MXN ($3.77) - One of the main attractions in Tulum are the ancient Mayan ruins. It’s a beautiful place, and what makes it so incredible are not only the ruins, but the fact that they are right up along the gorgeous turquoise Caribbean coast. It was great to walk around, even though it was packed with visitors.
Playa Paraiso - Next we drove over to Playa Paraiso, just down the beach from the Ruins of Tulum, which crystal sparkling water.
Chamico’s - By lunchtime we were all very hungry, so we drove over to a place called Chamico’s a spot I had searched out on Google maps. Just from the photos it looked like a place I needed to go, from the relaxing atmosphere to the amazing fresh seafood. It was just as good as I had imagined. The restaurant was right along the beach, breezy, and the Mexican food was amazing. We had a few plates of ceviche, fried fish, and a shrimp cocktail.
Total price (for 4) - 1,180 MXN ($63.53)
Tulum, Mexico, is a true beach paradise, and it’s an amazing place to visit in Mexico. Thank you for watching!

Epic Mexican Feast in Puerto Vallarta
If you're one of the approximately 100% of humans who love Mexican food, then learning how to make it yourself is the next step. In this Puerto Vallarta travel vlog, we do a Mexican cooking class to find out how our favourite dishes come together. We first walk to a market to buy fresh food supplied by local farmers and pick up vegetables, fruit, chicken, fish, and cheese. We meet a man selling grasshoppers, which are a popular snack, so we decided to give them a try. Then we stop by a tortilla factory where we try a tortilla so fresh it's almost too hot to hold. Chef Julio Cesar of Gaby's Restaurant guides us all the way. After shopping, we cook on the veranda with a view of the ocean and palm trees. It's really fun to see fresh ingredients go from the market to the table and all the steps in between. If you already love cooking, like me, then a class like this is a no brainer. But, even if you don't typically love being in the kitchen, a class like this is a great opportunity to connect with Mexican culture in a delicious way.
Huge thank you to the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board and ENroute Communications for inviting us to experience Puerto Vallarta and to Gaby's Restaurant for teaching us how these delicious Mexican foods are made.
