Rose Haze - Who Knows Where the Time Goes (Sandy Denny Cover)
Song written by Sandy Denny
Location: Venetian Fortress on Crete near Παραλία Χελιδόνι ''Chelidoni Beach in Palaiokastro
Story: One year ago I was living on the island of Crete. I had never intended on Greece, but a frenemy in Spain told me I needed to go. He just knew. Spain was too hot and I had already been to Spain and I love Spain but I became ill and weary from traveling and I was over everything. So I canceled my plans for Italy, booked a different flight, and got a bed in the crumbling tavern spilling dust at Gabby’s magical garden. I had enough electricity to run a cable for one lamp, my laptop, and my precious iPhone. It was a surreal experience, the kind you tell again and again but can never explain. Living in an old kitchen, swirling with dust, dank and eerie, in the middle of the most beautiful little village in the agonizing heat just next to the Mediterranean was nothing short of knowing paradise. Then my luck grew greater and I got a massive upgrade across the street. A Greek family took me in as one of their own. Every morning for four weeks I would wake with the warm sun rising upon the Aegean Sea, make my Greek coffee, make my toast, do yoga with the dog, swim in the sea, and practice my Greek. When I needed to escape, I would run to the fortress on the other side of the cliff and lay in a hammock writing songs with my tiny nylon guitar. One day I struck up the energy to film a tune amidst many lazy days. I decided against my own songs and began to sing one that stuck with me that entire journey. Sandy Denny greeted me that morning when I first arrived in Crete at 4am while I watched the sun rise for the first time. I had never felt so alive. I dedicate this to Giorgos and the rest of my Greek family at Παραλία Χελιδόνι ''Chelidoni Beach, and of course the one and only darling Gabriela and all of the friends who spend time at the garden.
