Chellarkovil water falls and ottakathalamedu view point in Thekkady ( Periyar )

Chellarkovil waerfalls is one of the good sightseing place in thekkady..it is just 20 km away from Thekkady . We can visit the top of the falls as well a wide view from another hill. Chellarkovil is situated in Kerala Tmailnadu boundary , falls starting from kerala and falling to Tamilnadu...As it is a unexplored destination , visitors are less, so we can enjoy the beauty in a calm and quite atmosphere...
Ottakathalamedu is a hill near to thekkady , we will get 360 degree view from this hill, there are 3 view points in this hill ...only one point is having 360 deree view...

Both these places can be covered by a jeep drive from thekkady for INR 1100/- for 3 hours...its worth.... we enjoyed it....

Cherllarkovil is a beautiful location on the Kumily Munnar road where you get a panoramic view of the plains of Tamil Nadu, something very similar to what you see from Ramakkalmedu. It is not just the view, the stories and other exciting information is what makes a viewpoint more interesting. In this video, we share with you the stories and facts associated with this viewpoint behind the property that we manage, its called Beaumont Plantation Retreat. it is located 15 Kilometres away from Thekkady and has a beautiful weather except for summer (April and March). Rest of the months this place has a beautiful cool misty weather and it is very much part of the cardamom hill reserved and you can find many cardamom plantations here.

Ottakathalamedu shot into fame among tourists very recently. Located at a distance of 4 km from Thekaddy, it is a beautiful off-roader from Thekaddy to here. Situated at an altitude of 1300 m above sea level, it offers a breathtaking view of Kumily, Periyar Tiger Reserve, spice gardens and some villages of Tamil Nadu.

It’s a perfect place to chill out with your group and also an apt place for the shutterbugs and Ottakathalamedu gives you the opportunity to capture fantastic landscapes. Carry your food and beverages as this is still an unknown territory with very few guests.

Be cautious of the wind factor - you can be blown away from the watch tower!!!!!

Want to explore Thekkady? Here is the video for you. We traveled to Thekkady via road(Suzuki Ritz Vdi) and experienced the scenic beauty along the way and at the destination. Let the viewers also experience the same.

We stayed at T Dew, near Kumily in Kottayam-Kumily road. Rooms where good and clean, with cottages on hillside, with good views. But we just wanted it to be bit more away from the civilization. But you can reach nearby places of interests with ease.

Roads were all good, apart those on areas where affected by landslides. These are all supposed to be cleared by now. But we do not recommend a road trip on peak monsoon.

When booking boats, be sure to get a boat with good outside visibility, and make sure you get a good view. Otherwise it will be an unpleasant experience.

We had our jeep safari booked from Kumily town, and had a blast from noon to evening. We rented our jeep from Kerala Adventure, a travel and tours company, and our guide Mr.Ani was very cheerful and helpful. They have different plans and routes, can be contacted on +91 9544674067.

Chellarkovil water falls is actually Suranganaru Falls(Also known as Y Falls) when we looked up on the maps. You can get a distant and beautiful view of the falls from another view point from Chellarkovil, a small walk from the viewing tower and botanical garden. The garden is a collection of diverse and exotic species of plants with a heavenly climate.

We spend much time in choosing the locations and we assure you that our picks will be worth your time and money.
