Sheffield's Best Street Tree, Chelsea Road Elm Tree to be Felled
Sheffield city council has decided to fell Sheffield's best street tree, the Chelsea Road Elm that had been awarded England's second best tree of the year award by the Woodland Trust. This is despite repeated promises that it would not be felled, but with Amey's initial tree felling tranche of felling 6000 street trees nearing completion, so now those trees that previously had been deemed to have been saved are now set to be felled.
And this comes literally days after Sheffield Hallam MP Jared O'Mara told constituents that he had been told it would NOT be felled. Instead the Council warns that the tree would be cut down next summer. However a huge skip has appeared next to Elm tree and signs have gone up on Chelsea road that suggest the felling could begin barely 3 days from now, the 12th of September 2017.
The Chelsea Road Elm Tree had become the symbol behind which thousands of Sheffielders had campaigned to halt the wholesale deforestation of Sheffield's street trees, loss of capital value averaging at £60,000 per large mature tree felled, that has now been stripped from hundreds of Sheffield's trees, which inevitably will convert into loss of housing valuations of not those streets where trees have been felled but the whole of city has been devalued, now having become infamous for it;s council cutting down thousands of its best street trees.

Football thugs caught on CCTV rioting 'like pack of animals'
A judge has blasted 15 football hooligans after they were caught on CCTV rioting like a pack of animals in the middle of a busy town centre. Port Vale fans clashed with Barnsley supporters outside two pubs before a League One match. Footage from security cameras shows dozens of fans fighting in the street and blocking traffic while one thug hurls an advertising board at a rival supporter. Staffordshire Police yesterday (Wed) released the footage after 15 football thugs were slapped with banning orders for their role in the riot. Violence erupted in Market Place, Burslem, Staffs., ahead of the match on September 20, 2014 which Port Vale FC went on to win 2-1.
Dog Break Throw Sheffield United's training
Dog interrupts Sheffield United's training session to urinate on a cone ahead of Liverpool game
Sheffield United could end the first round of 2020 fixtures in a Europa League spot with a win tonight.
Who’d have thought that would be said at the start of the season?
The only problem is, they’ll have to claim the scalp of unbeaten Liverpool in their own back yard in order to do so.
Nevertheless, the Blades have enjoyed a phenomenal season back in the top flight after winning the Championship last campaign.
Chris Wilder’s side have only fallen to defeat five times in the league this season and find themselves eighth, claiming points against Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United along the way.
However, it was the Reds who came out on top in their last meeting as Jurgen Klopp’s men won 1-0 at Bramall Lane thanks to a 70th minute Georginio Wijnaldum winner.
And preparations are already underway as United look to seek revenge with the Yorkshire side undergoing a training session at Stanley Park just hours before kick-off.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan.
That’s because proceedings had to be halted whilst a dog invaded the session before urinating on one of their cones.
Yes, you read that right.
Sheffield United’s official Twitter account then posted the footage of the hilarious incident on social media with the caption: “Just trying to do an activation session in peace.”
That’s what you get for training at a public park!
Anyway, the Blades stayed in Merseyside overnight and went through their final set of drills at the park that separates Anfield from Goodison Park earlier today.
It will undoubtedly prove to be their biggest test of the season tonight as they aim to stop the Reds from extending their unbeaten run.
However, in football, anything can happen.

Chelsea vs Sheffield Wednesday 4-1, FA Youth Cup Fourth Round 2013-14
Last year's beaten finalists Chelsea progressed to the Fifth Round of The FA Youth Cup after a comfortable 4-1 home win against Sheffield Wednesday.
Captain Ruben Loftus-Cheek set the tone for the evening early on as he burst forward from the middle of the park before teeing up England U17 striker Izzy Brown, who netted inside the first two minutes.
Chelsea doubled their lead two minutes before the break when Charly Musonda evaded the attentions of three defenders before arrowing his shot into the bottom corner and Charlie Colkett made it 3-0 from the penalty spot.
Jack Stobbs pulled one back for the visitors in the 83rd minute before Dominic Solanke, another U17 international, followed on from his treble in the Third Round win over Dartford with his 16th goal of the season in the third minute of injury time.
The Blues will now travel to Cardiff City or Oxford United in the next round.
