Chendebji Chorten was built in the early 18th century to subdue an demoness terrorising the people of the valley. This is a beautiful quiet scenic spot and I find it quite strange that there was not much mention about this place. Hardly any tourist when visited.

Chendebji Chorten: Trongsa
Chendebji Chöten, built in the style of the great Bodhanath Chöten of Nepal, was constructed by Tshering Wangchuk son of Yon-Say and the Mahasiddha Zhidag in accordance with the prophecy of the Second Gangteng Tulku Tenzin Lekpai Dhundrup in order to subdue harmful, anti religious demons. It is located 41 km west of Trongsa in Bhutan at 2430 meters in elevation.
A Sambha Lhundrup Molam Chenmo festival is held there annually from the 21st to the 25th day of the 9th lunar month of the Bhutanese calendar.

Monks from Trongsa dzong community perform numerous rituals to unfurl the Thangka
The festival takes place at Kurjey Temple, located at Kurjey in the Chokhor valley in Bumthang district. It is a 15 minute drive from Chamkhar town to arrive at the temple grounds.
The history of the temples at Kurjey is associated with Sindhu Raja and Guru Rimpoche. Sindhu Raja invited Guru Rimpoche from Nepal to Bhutan to subdue some evil spirits that had been plaguing the land. Upon invitation, Guru Rimpoche visited Bumthang and meditated in a cave that resembled a pile of Dorjis (stylized thunderbolt used for Buddhist rituals). After subduing the evil spirits and demons, imprints of the Guru's body remained in the rock face. Thereafter, the name came to be known as Kurjey meaning - Imprint of the body. The Lhakhang is now a blessed site of great historical significance.
There are three main temples at Kurjey. The oldest temple was constructed on the site where Guru Rimpoche meditated by Minjur Tenpa the first Trongsa Penlop (Governor of Trongsa) in 1652.
The second temple was founded by Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck in 1900 while serving as the 13th Trongsa Penlop. This temple is the most sacred as it was built in the place where Guru Rimpoche left his body imprint.
The third temple was built in the 1990s. It was sponsored by the Queen Mother Ashi Kezang Choden Wangchuck. It houses the images of Guru Rimpoche, King Thrisong Detsen and Pandit Santarakshita.
In front of the temples are Chortens dedicated to the first three kings of Bhutan.
The Kurjey festival is an important occasion not only for the local people of Bumthang but for all Bhutanese. The festival brings together tourists and Bhutanese from all over as it presents the perfect occasion to not only receive blessings by witnessing age-old mask dances but also to enjoy this unique culture whilst basking in the natural beauty of Bhutan's spiritual heartland.

Bhutan's Chendebji Chorten, styled after Kathmandu’s Swayambhunath Stupa
Sitting in a verdant valley, Chendebji Chorten was built in the 18th century by the Buddhist Lama Ngesup Tshering Wangchuk to ward off evil spirits and demons. Unusually for Bhutan, this chorten—a shrine to an important Buddhist monk—is styled after Bouddhanath Stupa in Nepal, including the signature eyes looking at the four cardinal points.
Fitting with the tradition, there is a relic inside the Chorten. In this case, it is the skull of Tenzin Lekpai Dhundrup, a powerful figure believed to be the reincarnated guardian of Tibetan Buddhist teachings. Next to the chorten is a long prayer wall adorned with holy Buddhist scriptures.
Several legends surround Chendebji Chorten. One of these is that the chorten was laid on top of an evil spirit in the form of a giant snake, which was squashed and defeated. Another legend maintains the monument was placed in the exact spot where the three edges of the sky meet. Yet another claims the chorten was built to subdue a demoness that used to torment the area. These legends are not perceived as incompatible, but mutually reinforcing, all pointing at the supernatural significance of this holy site.

Rhododendron is a genus of 1,024 species of woody plants in the heath family (Ericaceae), either evergreen or deciduous and found mainly in Asia, although it is also widespread throughout the highlands of the Appalachian Mountains of North America. It is the national flower of Nepal.
Bhutan celebrate Rhododendron festival every year in Lampelri Botanical garden and the garden is located in the center of a 47 sq. mile botanical park and has over 46 species of rhododendrons.

Free flowing stream in Bumthang
A pristine view of small stream flows downward in Bumthang, Bhutan. It seems the flow of the stream is high and volume is small as the small cascades are visible and rocks inside the steam is visible as well. There are green vegetation along the river bank.
Bumthang District is one of the 20 dzongkhag (districts) comprising Bhutan. It is the most historic dzongkhag in the number of ancient temples and sacred sites. Bumthang directly translates as beautiful field – thang means field or flat place, and bum is said be an abbreviation of either bumpa (a vessel for holy water, thus describing the shape and nature of the valley) or simply bum (girl, indicating this is the valley of beautiful girls).
