Exploring the ancient streets of Jinli in Chengdu China!
Spending a crazy jam packed day in Jinli, an ancient street in Chengdu's szechuan province. In this video you'll see everything from a Chinese Starbucks to street ear picking, pig brains and some of the wildest pepper and chili dishes!
Crazy tidbit, when Sam was getting his ear picked they actually found something lodged in there since he was born. Turns out the doctors never took it out and the lady was able to dig it out from his ear canal. He can hear so much better now! Best $25 USD ever spent! Comment if you want to see a picture of this mystery growth and if yyou're not squeamish.
Quick note: The emoji and text in this video are slightly off and appear earlier than intended. Sorry about that!

Chinese noodles at this local restaurant in downtown Chengdu were really delicious. I ordered two bowls of steaming noodles and experienced one super delicious bowl, and one unfortunate bowl that wasn't very good at all!
Please like: facebook.com/foodrangin
Sichuan food is so delicious, and I've been living here in Chengdu for almost 2 years now, eating up as many delicious meals as I can. I love Sichuan noodles more than northern noodles mainly for the fact that they are spicier and more flavorful, with more Sichuan peppercorn, more chilies, and I always order ganban which is dry mix, leaving a nice portion of chili oil and garlic and chiles on the bottom of the bowl that you get to mix into the noodles so nicely, infusing that awesome flavour throughout the noodles. That's the meaning of life!!
This noodle restaurant serves mainly noodles but they also had BBQ, also known as Shaokao, which ia a popular Chinese street food I have tried before but had to decline to trying it again at this location, since last time I got sick. The shaokao has a lot of skewers of different meats and vegetables, even whole fish, that they throw over a grill and serve to you steaming hot. The Chinese barbecue is better at more cleaner places. Chengdu food is where life is at though, I recommend coming here to try out how delicious it is!

Chengdu (成都) - People's Park and Tianfu Square
The capital of southwest China's Sichuan province, Chengdu is a modern city with plenty of history and culture to back it up. A morning here is well-spent wandering the massive People's Park, where locals gather to sip tea, take a boat ride, or get in the groove with live music and plenty of group dancing. From there, a stroll through downtown's Tianfu Square gives you a glimpse into both Chengdu's past and future.

Chengdu Tekst
When entering Chengdu you’ll probably notice the high buildings, foggy weather and lots of traffic. With over 10 million people in the region, the capitol of Sichuan is definitely a big city!
The most famous attraction being the Panda Breeding Center. And yes, you’ll definitely notice they are proud of their furry friends.
Heming teahouse in People’s park is very popular. A great place to put your feet up after a stroll through the park!
FACE CHANGING
They say ancient people used to paint their faces to scare off the wild animals. The Sichuan Opera adopted this skill, and formed it into the art we now know as face changing.
Actors reveal mask after mask in a way that bewilders the audience.
And there is more! Shadow plays, singing and fun little sketches. Even as an English speaking tourist, you’ll be entertained through the entire evening.
You can even feel the vibes of being an actor yourself for a few moments!
FOOD
Being a UNESCO renowned centre of gastronomy, enjoying the local cuisines is a must do. Mixtures of sweet, sour, salty and spices guarantee an explosion in your mouth. At least the Sichuan pepper will ;)
Don’t miss out on the hot pot in the streets, where you create your sauce exactly the way you like it, with a variety of fish, meat and vegetables.
Or go for a cooking course in a local home. A great way to catch a glimpse of daily life.
NEW CENTURY GLOBAL CENTER
With some of the largest cities in the world, you know China is not afraid to think big.
So, meet the world’s largest building, the New Century Global Center.
There are hotels in here, offices, even a university. But what you will find probably most interesting is the huge shopping mall that’s hidden behind the high walls. With options good options for entertainment, and shopping your ass of at any budget.
There are lot of funky foods to enjoy.
And if you want to cool down, just enter the tropical swimming area at the end of the building. Just because, why not?
TEA AND SPICES MARKETS
A totally different side of Chengdu is to be found at the local markets. We’re off to the tea market just above the northern railway station.
Of course you’ll find tea in here. Lots of it! For daily use, and for real fancy occasions.
And as a bonus, there is a spice market right across the street. With more taste explosions than you could possibly eat in a lifetime.
And best of all: we had so much fun with the people here. Even when you have to talk with hands and feet, a good laugh is understood by anyone.
And no worries when it starts to rain! Just join in on a local game of MahJong.
All in all this is a great place for some edible souvenir shopping just before going home.
And did I already tell you you can find all directions in the descriptionbox?!
GET LOST
Oh well, it’s a fun way to meet new people!
TIBETAN QUARTER
You could say this city does some face changing itself! In the Tibetan Quarter you’ll get yet a totally different feel from this city. Native style houses, small streets, lots of green and of course, lots of shopping.
You’ll definitely find the best souvenirs in here. But there is also the green surroundings and temples that are very attractive.
Selfie Time!

ChinaBio® Partnering Forum 2017: HitGen aids China drug discovery with DNA library
Wei Chen, head of R&D for Chengdu-based HitGen describes to Scrip’s Brian Yang how the Chinese startup partners with multinationals to speed up new drug development in China, and planned IND filing for its HDAC inhibitor for liver cancer.
HitGen burst onto the drug discovery scene one year ago, when the Chengdu firm signed a collaboration agreement with J&J, using their own DNA encoded library to screen new targets with a focus on oncology and metabolism conditions.
HitGen will provide chemistry and biological support in screening for small molecular lead compounds.
Following the deal, Merck & Co. and Pfizer also inked similar collaboration deals with HitGen.
The Chengdu firm meanwhile is also developing its own new drug compounds for ophthalmology, cardiovascular, oncology and autoimmune conditions. One of them, a histone deacetylase (HDACs) inhibitor, is being planned for an investigative new drug (IND) filing for hepatica cell carcinoma in 2017.
This interview was recorded at ChinaBio® Partnering Forum organized by EBD Group and ChinaBio® Group in Zhuhai, Guangdong, in May 2017.

Chinese street food and Chinese food in China is something so special to me. Eating Rabbit Head in Sichuan is a MUST do thing if you visit Chengdu, China. I also got to enjoy it with a local Chinese girl, a good friend of mine, one who also loves to eat, a wonderful experience!
Please like: facebook.com/foodrangin
The first thing we had to eat was this Chinese restaurant's specialty rabbit head, a Chinese favourite, covered in a spicy, numbing, Sichuan peppercorn flavour that was quite nice. This place was found just behind Wenshuyuan (文殊院) temple in Chengdu, near Chengdu's downtown Core.
Rabbit is not a true Chinese street food, but can be found on the street. We were lucky enough to try it right from the massive bowl on the street, as the chef had no problem with us eating it there. The chef at this Sichuan restaurant was super fun and happy. Actually, he gave the meal to us for free because we shot a video there, but I've added the proper prices in for your reference. I loved the true authentic Sichuan chopped cold rabbit salad. It was prepared with a whole roast rabbit, covered it in Sichuan chilies and peppercorns, peanuts, and cilantro. It was delicious, although a little dry.
Sichuan is famous for eating rabbit. Not all of the provinces in China eat rabbit. You can eat so many different types of rabbit dishes here, and to me, a good introduction into rabbit eating would be to chomp on a rabbit head and order up the dishes we tasted here. Yes, it can be a little nerve-wracking, but it's something that you should try. In all honesty, I didn't enjoy the head that much, as there isn't much meat, but for the fun factor alone combined with the spicy numbing flavour makes it worth trying. After eating the rabbit for 20 minutes or so, we both realized that it was much spicier than the chef had told us, and that our mouths were numbing and burning from the heat, but still enjoyable.
As my friend points out in the video, the numbing and spicy flavour is a true characteristic flavour of Sichuan. Eating rabbit head is something that many locals enjoy, soaked in Beautiful flavour (美味).

TRUE CHINESE FOOD! Eating Hot Pot in Sichuan is a MUST do thing if you visit. I also got to enjoy it with a local Chinese girl, one who also loves to eat, a wonderful experience!
Please like: facebook.com/foodrangin
The first thing we had to eat, although not technically Sichuan food, was a Chinese pastry, called huoshao, filled with a juicy, meaty, wonderful filling that was served fresh from the oven. We were super lucky to get the first ones right out of the oven after lining up for around 20 minutes. This place was found just behind Chunxi lu (Chunxi road) in Chengdu's downtown Core.
After feasting on that beautiful snack, we had to go for the real meal, the true authentic Sichuan food, Hot Pot. This is the first time I have showcased Sichuan Hot Pot in my videos. I was waiting for the right time to showcase it, and after searching for a good location and also a good partner to eat it with me (hot pot is not a one person meal), I was set to film!
Sichuan Hot Pot is basically a huge wok filled with hot chili oil and copious amounts of Sichuan chili peppers and Sichuan numbing peppers. You place raw ingredients like raw sliced beef and raw lotus root into this boiling chili oil, and then when it's ready to eat, they take on the flavour of the substance they are boiled in. It gets spicier over time. After 40 minutes of eating hot pot, you notice that it is much much spicier than it was when you first started eating.
As my friend points out in the video, eating hotpot at night with friends is the true lifestyle of Chengdu people. Eating hot pot is what you do when you want to go out with friends and relax after work and enjoy some beautiful food (美食). They literally do call it beautiful food here, that's the lifestyle!

In this Chinese Street Food tour video, I take you around many places in Chengdu. First, I visited this local market near the outskirts of Chengdu, Sichuan, China, and found Chinese street food and the atmosphere to be mind blowing and exciting! It was truly an experience visiting this Chinese street market! So much food and Sichuan ingredients, so many flavours to try! Afterwards, I rode my bike around to many different locations.
Please like: facebook.com/foodrangin
I visited this morning market on a Sunday morning in Chengdu at 8am with an empty stomach and money to blow with the goal of tasting foods and chatting with as many locals as possible. This is a true China experience. It was so busy, with so many people, so many things to buy and look at, tons of vegetables, meat, live chickens, live hens, live roosters, everything you could want really. Fresh handmade noodles, fresh Sichuan cold liangbancai, and a huge meat market deli area with hanging pork and beef to choose from. All of the locals were friendly and talkative, although a bit surprised to see a foreigner walking through the area!
If you're visiting China as a tourist, you'll definitely want to take a walk through a busy morning market like this. There are countless street foods to try and people to chat to (If you speak a little mandarin). This market was mind blowing!
Rather than trying hot pot in Chengdu or hot pot in Chongqing, you could try some way cooler food in Chengdu at local market like this. This should be a top priority in my opinion!
Chinese cuisine is so diverse, and I consider myself lucky to be able to live in Sichuan, eating Sichuan food everyday, tasting all the top Chinese foods to try whenever I want. I've decided to stay living in China for at least another 2 or 3 years to get the feel of it and eat as much as I can!
