From January 1, 2019, the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport has implemented a new visa-free transit policy. For any foreign traveler from any of the 53 designated foreign countries to stay in Chengdu for 144 hours (6 days). An Austrian who lives in Chengdu is thrilled at the news.

Tianfu Square is the main square downtown Chengdu, is easily reachable by metro (Tianfu Square Station) , and is near many of downtown Chengdu's main attractions including the Chengdu Museum, the Sichuan Art Gallery, the Sichuan Science and Technology Museum, several popular shopping centres and malls, and a large statue of Mao Zedong. There are a lot of great things to see in Chengdu. Tianfu Square is a good place to start.

How to go to the Chengdu Panda Base by bus and by subway
This videos shows how to visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding by subway and bus.
The giant panda is perhaps the most powerful symbol in the world when it comes to species conservation. For the World Wildlife Federation, panda has a special significance since it has been the organization's symbol since 1961 when WWF was formed. In China, it is a national treasure.
Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, or simply Chengdu Panda Base, is a non-profit research and breeding facility for giant pandas and other rare animals. As it is located in Chengdu, it is the easiest and cheapest way to see the pandas.
To reach the Panda Reserve, take the subway line 3 to the Chengdu Zoo station (fare depends on distance). From there take bus #987 or #987A for 9 stops. Stops are announced in the bus or you can count the stops. The Stop is called Xiongmaojili (means Panda Base). If you have a smartphone, you can also enter the Panda Reserve and follow along on your phone map. We recommend this offline map application: maps.me (download the Chengdu map when online).
If you are unsure, you can ask another passenger on the bus or the driver if you have arrived by just asking: Panda? In Mandarin. panda is “Xiongmao”

Flight over Tianfu Square, Chengdu, China | 4K drone video | high resolution
Took these videos in April 2018 with my DJI Mavic Pro drone. Stunning Tianfu square in Chengdu China surrounded by skyscrapers. Funny enough when I landed policy came over and told me that its not allowed to fly. I just pretended that I did not understand what they were saying.
The flight gives different perspective of the square as you are able to see the yin-yang patterns.
