It was 22 years ago when I last visited #ClubMed #Cherating Beach but I didn't remember a thing about it as I was obviously young, both my younger siblings weren't even born yet! So recently our whole family took the opportunity to put down all our work to go on a short getaway at Club Med Cherating Beach. My verdict? It was worth every penny if you compare it to other resorts because everything from food, drinks (even cocktails and beers), activities like kayaking, sailing, treetop challenge, flying trapeze etc, are all included in the package! I can't think of another resort in Malaysia that provides all those with such a competitive price. The G.Os (Gentil Organisateur) definitely create a livelier environment at the resort and they will constantly try to talk to you and make you feel like part of the Club Med family! Maybe it isn't a good thing for extreme introvert hah. I was only there for 4 days and on the last day I hope I was there for a longer period. I will definitely go again if I have the chance. Jay-R Esquivel from the Philippines Takes Out the Occy Grom Comp in Malaysia
Chris Kirkham representing NZ Greenroom Productions was there to capture, edit and deliver the daily web package for Billabong Asia.
(Sunday 10 January, 2010): 13 year-old Jay-R Esquivel from the Philippines won his first international grommet contest today at the Billabong Occy Grom Comp at Cherating Beach in Malaysia. Young Jay-R put on an amazing display of surfing during all three days of competition at the long, sandy-bottomed point break, getting cheers and wowing the crowd on the beach. The energetic grom showed off a well-rounded repertoire of maneuvers consistently impress the judges and rack up big points in virtually every heat.
And this talented youngster not only bested his fellow groms in the Occy Grom Comp, but he also took a second place in the Billabong Pro Am Mens Open Division, receiving a wild card into the event to try his luck against the bigger boys. On the podium he was asked to say a few words to audience, so the shy little shredder bravely took the microphone and said, Thanks Billabong and thanks to my sponsor after accepting his trophy and prizes. Jay-R won this trip to Occy Grom Comp as a reward for his second place finish at the Billabong Grom Comp in the Philippines in December of 2009.

The Kasturi - Cherating, Malaysia
This new boutique resort opened in September 2017 and is independently owned, offering 19 suites and villas on the East Coast of Malaysia on Chendor Beach in Cherating. Only 1 hour away from Kuantan Airport or 3 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur, The Kasturi is one of the newest luxury resorts in Malaysia where you can get back to nature and away from the mass tourist locations, The Kasturi villas and suites are an ideal retreat to switch off and get away from it all.
Set with the rainforest behind the resort and the beach to the front, this exclusive resort really does encapsulate the reality of being embraced by land and sea. Being located along the 800 metres of beachfront and surrounded by 30 acres of land with forested dunes and a further 500 meters of beach to the north of the resort which connects to the estuary of Sungai Pak Siak, the resort really does offer a wonderful setting to relax in, or even walk or run along.
Cherating is a relatively undeveloped village but this is half of its appeal. The number of businesses here are limited but over the years, its tourism sector has been contributing to its steady growth and the area continues to offer new experiences.
With the majority of our rooms being villas on the beach front offering their own private pool and vistas across the sand to the water and reminiscent of traditional Malay architecture with a modern expression of the stunning A-frame structure, they are articulated like folded origami, complimented by beautiful rubble walls and additional planting to ensure that each villa has complete privacy.
Each villa offers a living area superbly finished with original art works from the Rimbun Dahan collection which is adjacent to the bedroom and a dressing room area, a large bathroom overlooking a walled garden housing an outdoor shower, large private deck areas with garden and lotus ponds as well as a large plunge pool. But if your private pool isn’t big enough, you then have direct access via the villas own private gate to the beach and another shower just adjacent to help wash the salty water away before returning to your luxury retreat – all available when you enter the resort via the forest and then you walk across your private decking area and come face to face with the beach.
