Cherhill White Horse, Oldbury Castle & Lansdowne Monument (Drone Footage
This Drone Footage Video captures the Cherhill White Horse as well as the former Oldbury castle site and the Lansdowne Monument next to it.
The Cherhill White Horse is a hill figure on Cherhill Down, 3.5 miles east of Calne in Wiltshire, England. Dating from the late 18th century, it is the third oldest of several such white horses in Great Britain, with only the Uffington White Horse and the Westbury White Horse being older. The figure is also sometimes called the Oldbury White Horse.
The Lansdowne Monument, also known as the Cherhill Monument, near Cherhill in Wiltshire, England, is a 38 metre (125 foot) stone obelisk erected in 1845 by the 3rd Marquis of Lansdowne to the designs of Sir Charles Barry to commemorate his ancestor, Sir William Petty.
The monument was designated as Grade II listed in 1986, and restored by the National Trust in 1990.

Cherhill White Horse
This video is about Cherhill White Horse(1780) located east of Cherhill village beneath Oldbury Castle earthwork. The Horse can be seen well from the A4 and footpaths lead to around the site. This one is the second oldest of Wiltshire's White Horses, situated on the edge of Cherhill Down, off the A4.

Cherhill at Dawn June 1st 2009 Part 1
This is part one of a three part video-montage. This place is much loved by the people of Calne. The delicate beauty of the tiny rare pyramid orchids which grow wild here contrasts with the austere monumental presence of the obelisk and its shadow. At any time of day or year this place is another world. At sunrise it is heaven and skylarks hover above you singing. By some strange coincidence, just as I arrived at the base of the Lansdowne Monument planes started to fan out across the sky from a point on the horizon and draw traces in the blue behind the obelisk as I took the pictures.
Calne, Wiltshire [UK Places Series]
This episode is Calne in Wiltshire, a town with a woollen weaving and meat processing industry history. It had a canal network and a GWR rail network, which are now defunct.
I went for a look round.

Cherhill White Horse with a Crop Circle, Wiltshire, June 2013

Something different. Went to this site which is rarely flown. No sites guide. Really a site assessment and exploration visit. Was a bit bonkers thermic and with the wind slowly going from W to N was a bit tricky!
Cherhill to the Lansdowne Monument
This relaxing walk up to the Lansdowne Monument from Cherhill by the A4 was outstanding. With snowy hills and crisp, clear winter weather it was perfect for exploring, soaking up the views and vista and taking the DJI Mavic Pro out for some drone footage.
Just a half an hour walk from the A4, this walk is perfect for the whole family, a simple stroll up to the monument with stunning views and wide open spaces.

Flying at Cherhill uk.
The Cherhill downs form part of the historic landscape of Wiltshire. Rising to a hieght of some 838ft (258 metres) above sea level they are surmounted by the remains of oldbury castle,an iron age fortification. The Cherhill white horse is the second oldest of the Wiltshire horses. It is situated on the edge of Cherhill Down, off the A4 Calne to Marlborough road just east of the village of Cherhill, and is just below the earthwork known as Oldbury Castle. Nearby is the obelisk known as the Lansdowne Monument. Very well placed high on a steep slope, the horse is easily visible from below and from a distance. It may well have been inspired by the Westbury horse, as it was cut in 1780, just two years after that first Wiltshire horse was recut to a new design. The Cherhill white horse is the work of a Dr Christopher Alsop of Calne, sometimes referred to as the mad doctor. He is said to have directed the marking out of the horse from a distance, calling instructions through a megaphone. Dr Alsop's design for the horse may have been influenced by the work of his artist friend George Stubbs, famous for his paintings of horses and other animals. This white horse once had an unusual feature, a glass eye. The centre of the eye was formed from upturned bottles pressed into the ground to reflect the sunlight. Thus the eye apparently had a bright gleaming appearance, and was visible from a considerable distance. The bottles were supplied by a Farmer Angell and his wife. By the late nineteenth century, though, they no longer remained, perhaps taken as souvenirs. New bottles were set in position on at least one occasion. In the early nineteen seventies children on a youth centre project put new bottles in place, with their names inside them. Ultimately, however, they suffered the same fate as the originals. The present eye is of stone and concrete.Mr John Shortland tells me that as a child in the nineteen fifties, he and his cousins used to use the body of the horse as a slide. They would hurtle down the steep chalk slope on trays or in sacks!
