UK Expat Kiwi Reflections in Dunedin Otago South Island New Zealand
Homesick Expat Reflections at a Kiwi Christmas Festive Period London UK Dunedin NZ on a road trip journey to town to get my Irlen Syndrome glasses changed from a pink tint to brown, hence my mention of the pink traffic lights that were actually red :) (Irlen Syndrome = extreme light sensitivity) I was born in Kingston upon Thames London and spent my childhood in Hounslow Twickenham and Richmond and then moved to Sonning Common Peppard near Henley on Thames when I was 9. Best friends were Anthony Griffiths of Peppard Road (The Great Stakalini who I learnt to play guitar with) and Stephen Compton of Baskerville Road Sonning Common and we all attended Chiltern Edge Secondary Modern School. I did the infamous 5 mile paper round starting at The Unicorn Pub on the way to Rotherfield down the scary Colmore Lane with a mere 21 houses on the delivery list :) I also lived in Woodley in Reading and did also live in Basildon in Essex in later years and much later York in North Yorkshire. I think my most happy memories stem from Sonning Common and Henley on Thames when I lived at 6 Cherry Tree Close, Shiplake Bottom, such a very beautiful part of the UK, My father is buried in Reading and my Daughter is buried in Hambleton North Yorkshire and they both died in 1993, but, life goes on and is very precious.

Dance Of Spring (1928)
Group of women dance in a country house garden setting. They are dressed in flowing dresses with headbands. They dance in bare feet. Very stylised movements. One dancer carries a lyre so perhaps the costumes are to signify ancient Greece. A solo dancer wears a leopard skin and dances with wild abandon ending in a faint. A small child signifying Cupid dances amongst the troupe and wakes the main dancer with a kiss. More wild dancing ensues. In retrospect the dancing is rather melodramatic and funny.

WHERE ARE WE. Richard Hort Original
So i went for a long walk, over Coal House Fort on a lovely, sunny day, with the intention of recording out in the fresh air. I picked cherry plums and blackberries from along the hedgerow as i wandered. I found a nice sheltered spot, overlooking the Thames, where cargo ships were making slow and silent progress to the sea. I got out my guitar, tuned it up, set up my tripod and camera.....and that's when i realised it had no batteries! Why am I a writer and not an electronics technician? There's your clue!
This is a song from a few years back. Hope it's not too long.
Where Are We
That path is older now
Since first I walked its broken way
The grass strives to fill the ruts
That by many pilgrim's feet were torn
Not least mine and yours
That pond lies still and calm
Lost in a silent oaken glade
The leaves fall down beneath it's face
To rot in a silent stagnant grave
Too late to grieve or save
And where are we
Who wandered there
With a child's grace and poet's aires
Did we die young
Or did we just forget
We who lived for our dreams
Who cupped the oceans in our hands
We couldn't staunch the flow of tears
That fell like blood like bitter wine
Drunk on truth that left us blind
The frost lies shattered on your road
The rain so warm upon my tongue
Chases the winter from your trees
Brings your wilderness to bloom
Under the sun and the moon
And where are we
Who wandered there
With a child's grace and poet's aires
Did we die young
Or did we just forget
I see your hair has lost it's shine
Your eyes so pale beneath the stars
Your story closes just like mine
Nothing but memories and scars
Only banes of our art
And where are we
We wander yet
On crippled wings and laboured breath
Did we die young
I don't know, not yet

No title. Panning shot of a barren beach. There is a rocky pathway to the right of camera and a horse is seen being lead around the rocks. Camera tilts up to show cliff side. There are carved doorways in the cliff.
Camera pans across cliffs to show the houses carved into the cliff face. M/S of a various statues - Buddhas? They seem to be carved into the cliffs. More shots of the religious statues.
