Matthias Steele from Westerly, RI performing live at Legends Rock Bar in Gales Ferry, Ct. Unfortunately this footage was filmed onto VHS and I have no means of transferring that footage. So I had to film it from the screen. This is the opening to our show that night where we were now trying to put more of a show on by introducing taped intros to our set. Some fog effects and strobes to create lightning. This song was written by Tony Lionetti. For more info on the band please follow us on Facebook: facebook.com/matthiassteele
Historic Connecticut Ferry Provides Respite, and a Seasonal Connection for Commuters
Each weekday morning at the bank of the Connecticut River, a short line of cars begins to form. A part of Route 148 is closed off — the river runs through it. But at 7:00 am, a gate swings open, and the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry reconnects the route.

Riding the oldest ferry in the US from Rocky Hill to Glastonbury
We are on Connecticut State Route 160 in Rocky Hill, where we see and then board the oldest continuously operating ferry in the United States; the Rocky Hill to Glastonbury Ferry, which crosses the Connecticut River. The ferry originated in 1655 and was moved by pole. Over time, the ferry evolved from a pole to an oar to a horse on a treadmill to a steam powered boat to the current day incarnation, which is a diesel powered tugboat. The ferry barge is named Hollister III and the tugboat is named Cumberland. Cumberland was built in 1953 by Blount Marine Corporation, is a single screw, and is powered by a Detroit Diesel V6-71 for a rated 140 horsepower. Overall, the trip takes about 4 minutes. The price is 3 dollars for a car and 1 dollar for a pedestrian or cyclist. As a side note, the State of Connecticut has owned and run this operation since 1917, and the ferry is operational between May 1st and October 31st. Here is a website with a more detailed description of the ferry
Enjoy the view as we ride across the river to Glastonbury. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on October 7th, 2012.

CHESTER, CT:
Chester is a town in Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 3,743 at the 2000 census.
The Wangunks, a river tribe of Native Americans, occupied the land called Pattaconk prior to English settlement of the area in 1692. The town was formed from the northern quarter of Saybrook and incorporated in 1836. Back in 1769, Jonathan Warner was granted permission to operate a ferry across the Connecticut River that became the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry, the second-oldest continuously operating ferry service in Connecticut. Its location is currently a state historical landmark.
DEEP RIVER, CT:
Deep River is a town in Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 4,629 at the 2010 census. Deep River is part of what the locals call the Tri-town Area made up of Deep River, Chester, and Essex, Connecticut.
Every year on the third Saturday in July, Deep River hosts the Deep River Ancient Muster, the largest one day gathering of fife and drum corps in the world.
Saybrook Colony formally joined Connecticut in 1644. The portion of the original colony east of the Connecticut River was set off as a separate town in 1665. The site of the present village of Deep River was said to have been owned by John, Nathaniel, and Philip Kirtland in 1723. The village of Winthrop was said to have been settled by Baptists as early as 1729. In the early to mid-19th century, various portions of Saybrook broke off as separate towns, starting from Chester in 1836 to Old Saybrook in 1854. In 1947, the town of Saybrook changed its name to Deep River, matching the name of the town center village.
