The Chesterton, Indiana Stinkers
In 1981, a clever billboard in Chesterton, IN caught the attention of a Chicago news station
Indiana Dunes State Park Lake Shore Chesterton, Indiana
Indiana Dunes consists of 2,182 acres of primitive, beautiful, historic and unique Hoosier landscape. It lies at the north end of State Road 49 in Porter County, and includes more than three miles of beautiful beach along Lake Michigan’s southern shore. In the early 1900s scientists, recreationists and nature enthusiasts, recognizing the value and potential of the Indiana dunes area, fought to have the region preserved. As a result, in 1925, the state park was established.
Large sand dunes, located beyond the entire shoreline, have taken thousands of years to form, and tower nearly 200 feet above Lake Michigan. A wide range of habitats and plant species are found in the park, with vegetation stabilizing some of the sand. These habitats provide homes for many types of plants and animals. The lake also provides habitat for many aquatic species, as well as a constantly changing fishery.
During the summer, swimming hours may change because of weather and staffing. Please contact the property office for exact times before your visit.

CHESTERTON — COMMUNITY SERIES
“An Art-Centric Community” — Being an artist living in the shadow of the Indiana Dunes is like a designer living next door to Frank Lloyd Wright—it’s almost impossible not to be inspired to create your own works of art.
That’s probably why Chesterton is home to a surprising number of artists—like Holly Jackson and her vibrant, Matisse-inspired paintings, which she sells at her downtown studio , Craig Berg and his Indiana Dunes photography, which can be purchased at his restaurant, Duneland Pizza and Dunes Photography, and several other regional artists whose works can be found at the Chesterton Art Center.
Chesterton is one of the best towns in the area to find dunescapes and other art pieces influenced by our gorgeous, national ecological treasure, and is only a five-minute drive to the Indiana Dunes State Park and Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
Even beyond its art scene, Chesterton is a place to enjoy festivals annually, the renowned European Market from May to October, and unique restaurants and shops year round.

It's exit 26A on I-94 if you're wondering. There is also an Arby's, Wendy's, and BK not noted in the video, all within a short distance.

An evening flight through downtown Chesterton, Indiana
At 175 feet this Birdseye view of the Broadway and Calumet downtown area in Chesterton Indiana is quite enjoyable at a walking pace. My favorite moment is when the street lights kick on.
