7 Wonders of India: Chettinad Palace
Located 10 km from Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, the Chettinad Palace was designed and constructed by Dr Annamali Chettiyar, founder of the Indian Bank and the Annamalai University in Chidambaram. Moat of the construction materials, decorative items and furnishings used to construct Chettinad Palace were imported
from East Asian countries and Europe. All the mansions have lovely teak, marble or granite pillars supporting a spacious verandah. The hall leads to the central courtyard, used for weddings and religious ceremonies erstwhile. At the corner of the courtyard is a room for worship where Rani Seethai Achi, wife of Dr Annamalai Chettiyar, spent most of her time.

According to Guy Trebay in Houses of the Holy (New York Times, 17 November 2010), Chettinad originally consisted of 96 villages and now[when?] consists of a network of 73 villages and 2 towns forming clusters spread over a territory of 1,550 km2 in the Districts of Sivagangai and Pudukottai in the State of Tamil Nadu. It finds itself in the UNESCO nomination for sites of historic and cultural value.

An Authentic Chettinad Wedding at Devakottai, Karaikudi | ARUNACHALAM - KALYANI
The Chettiars were the kings of Karaikudi. Their story begins when the Nattukottai Chettiars migrated to Karaikudi from Cauvery Poompattinam and their legacy continues to this day. They are famous for the grandeur of their buildings - pristine in heritage, colorful in essence and convenient in aesthetics - the Chettairs were true connoisseurs of all the fine sophisticated way of living. They brought their chandeliers from Italy, their wood was imported from Burma via land and sea, they built huge palaces which housed wooden pillars and objects of antiquity that truly glorified their lifestyle. When we were asked to shoot a wedding inside one of these legacy homes - the Chettiar-homes - over 130 years old, we were truly anxious and grateful. It is such an honor for us to shoot weddings at places that are touchstones to our history and heritage.
The Chettiars also carry forward the legacy of hosting their family weddings in their family homes and Kalyani & Arunachalam's wedding was also held at one of their ancestral homes at Devakottai, Karaikudi, Tamilnadu, INDIA. They believe that their ancestors still live in thought and spirit in their family homes and make it a point to welcome their blessings into the couple's life by conducting the weddings in their ancestral houses. What a truly delightful tradition that respects the ancestors while also giving in to the trends of the times. The house was huge, and all of the couple's friends and relatives assembled at the family home for the wedding. The wedding feast was unimaginable. We thrived in the stories, in the heritage and we shot extraordinary motions their wedding at the backdrop of their ancestral home at Karaikudi. We truly hope that they follow in the footsteps of their ancestors in preserving the glory of their heritage and the pride of their land! Here is the real An Authentic Chettinad Wedding of course shots from their 130-year-old ancestral authentic Chettinad house, drop your valuable comments folks

Chettinad Palace is considered as one of the seven wonders in India. It is an amazing amalgamation of art, architecture and tradition. It was Dr Annamalai Chettiar who designed the palace and got it built in 1912. The palace is an important structure in the history of India because it provides us so much information on the technology that was available during the period. The Chettinad Palace is an outstanding example of the rich cultural heritage of the people of Chettinad.
The style of the palace is in accordance with the traditional style preferred by the Chettiars. East Asian countries and Europe have played a major role in the construction of this palace since the raw material, decorative pieces, as well as furniture and upholstery, were brought from these countries. The chandeliers, teak wood furniture, marble, mirrors, carpets and even crystals were imported. However, it is this blend of different arts and styles that gives the palace its unique identity
