After the whiskey distillery, my aunts were in a cookie frenzy. Taiwan is famous for their pineapple cake and alongside many amazing traditional pastries. What does a girl do when she sees all the samples laying out to be eaten? I ate them all, well, I taste them all so you can see if they look tasty or not. Simply look at my expressions and you can tell.
This portion of day 2 has nothing else but food. We are probably some of the worst travellers out there, but we did enjoy ourselves. When I thought I could not eat anymore, I ate some more. Taiwanese are just so friendly, they are sincerely polite, warm and helpful people. It somehow makes you want to eat more. Is it just an excuse? or you are eating more because you are just so happy, or simply, their food is too good? Perhaps it’s all of the above.
When you are in Taiwan, do really spend time researching some of the best pastries shops they have, visit them, try them and buy some. Their pineapple cakes are my favourite, I love any brands really. Traditional wild pineapple is more sour and also my favourite. You can also buy many other traditional cakes which is very different but goes down so well with a cup of green tea!

38.7-degree heat in Taipei breaks 100-year record for June temperatures
Record temperatures in Taipei today sent residents scurrying for places and ways to cool down, as the mercury climbed to 38.7 degrees in the mid-afternoon, the hottest in a century for a June day. Meteorologists said the La Nina phenomenon this year would continue to drive a warming trend that another Taipei weather record bested, 39.3 degrees set in 2013. An infrared sensor aimed at the pavement sent back a reading of 50 degrees. Taipei City officials even had to send out trucks to water the pavement, a whole half a month earlier than in the past.Ten stations across Taiwan recorded yearly highs, with temperatures in Dawu, Taitung reaching 38.3 degrees thanks to hot Foen winds blowing down nearby mountains. Guangdu Temple of Taipei Guandu Temple
The Guangdu Temple is located below the main hall of Bhaisajyaguru. It is a standalone Buddhist temple in Guandu Temple. The temple is categorized into a central main hall that worships Ksitigarbha, and the rooms on both sides are compartmentalized by glass platforms consisting of eight areas for people to worship their ancestors and place the tablets of their deceased relatives.
The Ksitigarbha wears a Five-Buddha Vairocana headgear, with a treasure pearl in his left hand and a staff in his right hand. The Bodhisattva sits in a lotus position on a single-horn beast named Diting. The Bodhisattva has, in the past, made a promise that he will use the greatest power of grief to salvage suffering mortals. Particularly for his ambition of ‘I will not become Buddha if the Underworld is not empty’, which vividly represents the Bodhisattva’s compassion and wish to save people from suffering.
The Guangdu temple also serves as an important ritual space for placing ancestors’ tablets. Other than the Chinese New Year, Qingming (Tombsweeping) and Mid-Autumn Festival, worshippers can visit the Guangdu temple to pay respect to their ancestors. In every sacrificial space, offering tables are set up with the statue of the main deity Ksitigarbha and for worshippers to place their offerings.
Every year on the first to third day of the lunar seventh month, Guangdu temple will conduct the ‘Yulan Ritual for Salvation of the Purgatory’ for ancestors and dead souls. Worshippers can also register for their deceased relatives and take part in the salvation ritual.
At the same time, they can receive the blessing from the Ten Directions. Worshippers can also use the merits from the ten directions, to bless their ancestors and enable salvation of dead souls. The ultimate objective will be to guide these souls to another world freed from suffering and evil.

Taipei and Farglory reopen talks on Dome but adjourn meeting after 20 minutes
Representatives of Farglory, the firm responsible for the construction of the Taipei Dome, reopened talks with officials at Taipei City Hall today. They were trying to find a way to restart the suspended project, which has been dogged by allegations of corporate corruption and official collusion. But within 20 minutes, Farglory''s representatives left the building. Both sides conceded the meeting had not gotten very far. Farglory President Tang Chia-feng appeared sober as he arrived at Taipei City Hall to meet Deputy Mayor Chen Chin-jun, to discuss the future of the Taipei Dome. You can’t just solve this in a fit of temper. Among them are three deputy mayors with past experiences ranging from the Cabinet to academia and industry. Lin announced his three deputy mayors today. President Tsai stumps for three Taipei district legislative candidates
On Friday President Tsai Ing-wen stumped for three DPP district legislative candidates in their respective constituencies in Taipei. President Tsai campaigned for Kao Chia-yu, who is running for the Nangang and Neihu district, Hsu Shu-hua for Songshan and Xinyi, and Wu I-nung for Zhongshan and Songshan. Two of Taipei''s eight legislative seats are already held by DPP legislators Rosalia Wu and Ho Chih-wei. Another seat is held by former NPP legislator Freddy Lim, who is DPP-friendly and running as an independent. The DPP estimates it can retain these three seats and has set a goal to win more than four.
