Finding a place to rent a driver and guide in Thailand
Hello there, one of our ebook readers retire in Thailand recently sent us a message sharing that his family recently came to beautiful Thailand.
But there were so many things to do and places to go that they weren't sure, out of all the options, what would be best and most suitable for her family and then scramble to get to the various places was also a concern.
Are you too, planning to come to Thailand and need to know where to rent a driver and guide to help you? In this video, I am going to show you why you should rent a driver and guide while in Thailand and three recommended options. Firstly, here is a short intro...
I’m Yariv here with you again; I’ve been happily living in Thailand for the past eight years. On this channel, I’ve been sharing various important facts and tips to help you get the most value out of your stay in Thailand. Today my topic will be: Finding a place to rent a driver and guide in Thailand.
On this channel, we share a lot of tips and information to save you time and money when seeking to visit or retire in Thailand successfully. Thailand is a massive place, and even if you are staying in Bangkok, there are many places to go and things to do. However, as a visitor, you will not be familiar with which places are the best to go and then you will need to figure out how to get to the various places. If you are planning a day-trip of sightseeing, then it is not practical to take public transportation. If you are going to rent a vehicle, there are several reasons why you won't want to drive yourself. Firstly the hassle of obtaining the required FULL driving license and not just the International driver’s license obtained from your home country. Also, the hazards of driving a strange vehicle in a foreign land, with unfamiliar road signs and local driving customs.
The better option is to rent the vehicle with a driver and a guide. Many companies will rent the vehicle with a driver, but that driver may not necessarily speak English so also choose the option with a guide who will not be distracted from driving to talk with you and share information about what you see as you drive along.
Your driver and guide will share with you the most suitable attractions for your group and also know the best places to eat (remember that it is customary to courteously offer to pay for the lunch of your driver and guide as well).
Most of the major car rental companies and many of the smaller companies will also offer the service of a driver and a guide with your vehicle rental. Here are three trusted, safe and varied recommendations:
Budget Car Rental (Thailand) - Offering friendly, affordable, world-class chauffeur service. Choose from one of their fully equipped, air-conditioned vehicles. They offer full-service pickup and delivery from any location in Thailand, giving you time to enjoy a relaxing, luxurious trip (from 2900 baht/USD$88 per day) for three persons basic chauffeur-driven car up to 11-seater luxurious van for 4200 baht/USD$127 per day.
AAA Thai: Offering full-day or half-day tours inclusive of the vehicle, English speaking driver, fuel, insurance and tax for 3000/3500 baht/USD$90/106. Choose one of their pre-designed itineraries or select appealing destinations, sightseeing tours and venues and travel at your own leisure time. Licensed by Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Chiang Mai Minibus Hire With Driver: offering car and driver and minibus and driver hire services for Chiang Mai and the north of Thailand. Hire a Minibus or car for a half/full day or a multi-day trip. They offer a choice of cars or minibusses which accommodate 1-14 passengers at extremely affordable rates of 1800 baht/USD$54 (car and driver per day) to 2200 baht/USD$66 (12-seater mini-van and driver per day).

I have learned the ropes and now enjoy my retirement in Thailand, and I am willing to help you to visit and to retire comfortably too so contact me now at namchaithailand.com. How to Pass Thai Driver's License Tests in English for Motorcycle / Car (Written / Driving)
Vlog #45 Getting a Thai Drivers License Part 2
BTS Bang Chak, Bang Chak Department of Land Transportation Bangkok Thailand
00:47 day 1: make an appointment
01:36 day 2: classroom course
03:53 day 2: the written test
08:16 day 3: retesting
09:24 day 4: driving test / receive license
Check out Vlog #45 for the additional process of taking a driving class and passing the written and driving tests to receive a motorcycle license if you don’t already have a license from your home country. It’s the same process for also receiving a car license if you don’t have a car drivers license. The documentation steps are exactly the same as this guide so the next vlog is just a supplement for those that don’t already have a driver’s license from their home country and have to take the class and test in Thailand.
Link to Thai Driver's License Test Questions and Answers
(The test questions and answers were exactly the same as in the actual test so nothing has been updated as of Dec 2017. You should be able to pass by just studying the questions and answers. I recommend you print this out and review it during the 4 hour class)

What is up guys welcome back to LIVETRAVELASIA
So today is a followup guide to the previous vlog #44 where I went over how to apply for a new or renew a driver’s license without a course or test if you already have a valid driver’s license from your home country. I had a California Driver’s License and it worked.
This vlog however will go over the process of applying for a new driver’s license if you don’t already have a drivers license which I had to do because I was only certified for a car on my CA Driver’s license and I wanted a motorcycle license.
Now the first thing you have to do is make an appointment. There are only 5 slots per day so you may have to wait a while for the next appointment. Now I am not sure why we had to because the classes seemed to house more than 5 people but I am guessing the appointment is for an English class which they didn’t put us into anyways. So my guess is if you come before 8:30 you may not have to make an appointment.
I actually recommend you come before 8:30 however so you have plenty of time to make the photocopy, submit the documents, take the physical test, and I recommend you get your medical certificate ahead of time when you come to make the appointment as I don’t think the clinic is open before 9. Be aware that there are longer lines in the morning. I made a super in depth guide to this part of the process in the previous vlog #44 so please check that out on the link in the description below.
Now what’s going to differ from the process of the previous guide for those that don’t have a valid drivers license is the course and testing. They sent us up to the third floor to a big class being conducted in Thai and gave us this booklet with English translations for all the street signs and test questions to study. This does not go over everything you will be tested on for the written test as we will later found out. So checkout the link in the description below for the actual test questions on a site this cool expat made that you can review before taking the test.
So after another 2 hours in class, we test
After you get your paperwork, sit down and wait. You’ll eventually see people walking over to where they explain the road test and obstacle course. You’ll need to do a lot of monkey see monkey do as everything was conducted in Thai. What you’re seeing now is the obstacle course.
They’ll test your ability to drive straight by making you driver over a raised section on the ground about a foot wide, than you’ll need to weave through cones about 2 meters wide.
Before this section however, you’ll be going through an area with stop signs and turns replicating a real road. Just make sure you’re using your turn signals which you might miss because the explanation of the course was done in Thai.
Thank you guys so much for checking out our vlog, I really hope it was informative and or amusing,

CHIANG MAI: Is GrabTaxi Reliable?
After the short flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, we take a taxi truck to our hotel in Nimmanhaemin (awesome, lively area within Chiang Mai!). After visiting the Night Bazaar, we called a Grab Taxi and answer the question Is GrabTaxi reliable in Chiang Mai?
Some of the places we stopped in Chiang Mai were the Nimman Mai Design Hotel, which was totally worth the $35/person per night, Hong Tauw for Northern Thai cuisine, Old City Chiang Mai for the history and temples, and finally, the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar for an incredibly diverse selection of foods in a backpacker-friendly environment.

20 Things to do in Chiang Mai, Thailand Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Today we’re taking you around a city that we’ve been to many times before: Chiang Mai. Located in the heart of Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a growing city with laid back vibes, temples sprinkled around every corner, and a foodie scene that will make you drool. This is a destination where you come to unwind and that’s exactly what we did during our month long visit. Now let’s get started with this tour of Chiang Mai (清邁) so you can see what this city is all about:
One of the best things you can do in Chiang Mai is ditch the map and get lost inside the old city. It’s along the quiet back lanes that you’ll find cozy cafes, terracotta gardens, unvisited temples, and a little flavour of the old Chiang Mai.
As you’ve probably figured out, we’re not really into nightlife, but Chiang Mai does have lots of bars where you can enjoy a drink or two. We kept things light with a Chang beer.
And that’s a wrap for our visit to Chiang Mai, Thailand. We hope this video gave you a little taste of what this city is all about. We’ll be the first to tell you that we barely scratched the surface in terms of everything Chiang Mai (清迈) has to offer, but that being said, the goal of our time here was to relax, eat well, see friends, and catch up on work. As always, if you have any other suggestions of things to do, places to visit, and restaurants to eat at, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below. Until next time!
This is part of our Travel in Thailand video series showcasing Thai food, Thai culture and Thai cuisine.

MY CHIANGMAI TRIP IN 2 MINUTES
We visited Chiang Mai, Thailand during December 2018. It was great, the weather and all. The Muslims were all around Chiang Mai and it wasn't hard to look for halal food.
We visited the mountains, the local market, and even attended a local cooking class! For those who like the cold, you can try visit the tallest peak in Thailand. If you're planning to do this, make sure you have your own driver who would wait for you and send you back to your hotel.
There are local markets everywhere however in this video, we went to the Warorot Market to look for some flowers and fruits to eat. We also went to the garden market where you can buy trees and flowers, or just walk around and admire the beautiful trees that are sold cheaper than anywhere else. Gardener mums would love this!
For the cooking class, it is a must do! In my trip we went to 'Cooking@home' and the owner was very friendly. He picked us up at the hotel and recommended some places to go as well. The food he served is halal guaranteed and his recipes are very delicious and tasty. You can easily book him online.
Everything was great and we stayed at The Astra Condominium which offered good hospitality and comfortable apartments for a 5-night stay.
