CHIANG MAI SCOOTER DAY TRIP - SAMOENG LOOP | Thailand Travel Vlog 051, 2017
This was such an epic day, it's now firmly on our list of favourite things to do in Chiang Mai. We hired scooters and drove the Samoeng Loop through the Mae Savalley, also known as the Mae Sa Loop - its always a popular choice on blogs for what to do in Chiang Mai and the various places on the trip. Basically its a scooter mission, or motorbike rental mission, around the Mae Sa Valley mountains and Samoeng area surrounding Chiang Mai - and you definitely should do it!

Walking in CHIANG MAI / Thailand - 4K 60fps (UHD)
Chiang Mai in northern Thailand is a tourist favourite. There are forests and hills around the city for nature lovers. The inner old city houses various Wats - Buddhist temples - for getting in touch with Thai history and culture in this old capital of the Lanna Kingdom.
We start this evening walk at the Tha Phae Gate and go through many wats on our way to the center of the Old Town and eventually up North before heading back down to Old Town.
Filmed in April 2019
Camera: Osmo Pocket in 4K60 - Note: the camera shut down due to overheating at around 43:15 - so I waited a bit, recorded the rest and cut those two parts together

Thailand's dreamy north has national parks galore and tons of amazing day trips to take from Chiang Mai. Our first stop on our hidden Thailand road trip is Doi Inthanon National Park, Thailand's tallest peak.
On the way, we stop by Pha Chor, an orange canyon located about an hour outside of the city. It's an easy, perfect little pit stop before we continue on our way to the Mae Ya Waterfall.
Though Doi Inthanon National Park has many waterfalls, Mae Ya is easily one of the most beautiful, the largest, and the most impressive. It's also the least crowded since it takes an extra 40 minutes to drive to from the park entrance, but it's worth it!
Finally, we finish at the King and Queen Pagodas near the top of Doi Inthanon after a gorgeous drive.
Check out the associated blog post for more information on the beautiful hidden parts of Thailand, accessible by day trip from Chiang Mai.

Driving Chiang Mai Thailand #1
The outer ring road (Rte 121) between Rte 118 (Doi Saket) through to Rte 108 (Hang Dong) has seen many changes recently and the connection to the Super Highway (Rte 11) has been enhanced too. The Lamphun Road (Rte 106) junction has been constructed without chopping down any of the famous trees ( Dipterocarpus Alatus) that line the road.
This video is a 20 minute drive condensed down to 4 minutes. No Accidents are captured. Near miss accidents and accidents waiting to happen are actually the norm on Thailand's roads compared to many western country driver standards. But if you are able to live & let live, driving in Thailand is very easy and enjoyable.

Amazing Doi Suthep [Mountain Tour] in Chiang Mai, Thailand (2019)
Doi Suthep is a mountain pretty close to Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand's pearl. Actually, it's so close to the western city border that you can just rent a bicycle and go there from almost any point in Chiang Mai. And that's exactly what we did on this way too hot Tuesday morning. Bike rental shops in Chiang Mai are as hard to find as sausages on Thailand's street food stalls and have pretty decent bikes at least compared to the bikes we rented in Cambodia. But I guess this is what you have to do while traveling around southeast Asia renting a motorbike or at least a bicycle to gain independence from tuk-tuk and taxi drivers trying to rip you off. Anyway, it was time for us to join the hair-raising traffic of Thailand's streets as we had chickened out on that so far on our around the world trip. But enough about getting there. When you arrive you will be pleased to see that Doi Suthep's waterfall is at the very beginning of the mountain, so no exhausting mountain stage is needed to get there. We left our bikes, picked up some ice cream and hiked to the waterfall which is a pretty short hike (not sure if you should even call it a hike). Behind the waterfall is a trail called the monks' trail, ist a short but scenic way a little higher up to the mountain. In the end, you will find sort of a pond created by the river leading into the waterfall. Nice opportunity to cool your feet off before going back to physical activity and bike the rest of the mountain. But well, we didn't do that, we are on vacation not in a boot camp.

YOU MUST DO THIS IN THAILAND - Ride to Pai
In Chiang Mai, Thailand and we decided to rent motorbikes and take on the daunting task of riding Route 1095 to Pai. It was by far the most amazing thing we've done yet and I can't recommend it enough. IF YOU'RE IN THAILAND YOU MUST DO THIS.
