Series of Birch
Series of Birch Trees
These are pieces of art depicting a beautiful scene of a lake or rocky valley through birch trees. I imagine that the viewer would have just walked through a forest of birch trees and had come to the opening in each picture.
I used acrylic paint on canvas for the first three paintings of the series. The fourth painting is done with alcohol inks and relief paste. I was fortunate to take a class with artist Valerie Read where she taught me how to use the inks to create this beautiful stain glass-like image. Lastly for the fifth painting I used watercolour and allowed the picture to embrace hope through the spring-like colours. You will hopefully find this in contract to the first painting, which I imagine is more winter time.
Materials:
M. Graham & Co. Acrylic Paint
Professional Visual Edge Art Advantage canvas
Alcohol Ink
Glass Pane
Relief Paste
M. Graham & Co. Watercolour
Strathmore Watercolour Paper
*Most of the materials were purchased at Chiaroscuro, Kingsville, Ontario.
*The alcohol ink class was at Chiaroscuro, Kingsville by the A.S.K. member Valerie Read.

Sarah's Reflections
Sarah’s Reflections is an acrylic painting of three islands on a lake in the Canadian Shield. The viewer peeks at the trees through the birch tree on a neighbouring island. The reflections of the islands are very clear but not complete replicas of the original as they come from a different viewpoint. Sarah’s Reflections was painted with a good friend in mind. Sarah’s reflections show up in the people around her, through the kindness, patience and goodness that she inspires in them through her examples. I know her reflection in me will last a lifetime, and I am a better person for having that reflection as a part of me. I hope you also will meet someone like Sarah and have the opportunity to have their goodness reflected into you.

Chutes' Sapling
“Chutes’ Sapling” was painted at Chutes Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. Unfortunately on our way from Quebec to the Chutes, our camper broke own and we had to take 3 days to get a new transmission. Those three days we were suppose to be in the Chutes. We did get one night at the Chutes, and it rained. So I was only able to paint something near our campsite. Lucky me, there was a great inspiration in this sapling growing amongst all of these much older trees. So I pulled out my paints and this is what I created.
I used M. Graham acrylic paint on MDF board. All supplies were purchased at Chiaroscuro in Kingsville, Ontario.

Shelter
“Shelter” was painted at the top of Lookout Trail in Earl Rowe Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. This was a beautiful spot on a wonderfully sunny day. I found this tree at the top and just fell in love with the shelter and view it provided.

Kana's Lake
“Kana Lake” was painted on the shore in front of the visitor centre at Parc National Opémican in Quebec, Canada. Kana is the mascot of the park and is a fisher (this is a species of animal like a muskrat). This painting focuses on some of the historic buildings in the park that were used for boat building and logging. There was so much to see and do here, I can’t wait to visit again.
