Chiba Castle - 千葉城 - 4K Ultra HD
Chiba Castle - 千葉城 : Located a good hour away from Tokyo and in Chiba City, the Chiba Castle or Inohana-jo, was first built in 1126 by Tsuneshige Chiba. He was the first ‘gunji’ administrator of Sōma District, and was then transferred to the same position in Chiba District.
For many centuries, the Chiba family ruled over the area from this castle. Then in 1455, Makuwari Yasutane, a relative of the Chiba family, attacked and defeated them resulting in the castle’s demise. Thanks to his lineage Makuwari Yasutane took over the name of the Chiba family and decided to build his own castle, the Honsakura Castle, in the nearby city of Sakura, leaving the first Chiba family’s castle in ruins.
It was only in 1967, that the City of Chiba decided to give Chiba Castle a second life with a new and modern design. Though it is far removed from what the first castle built in 1126 looked like, it now doubles as the city’s official folk museum

Behold a traditional Japanese festival in Chiba, Japan. This old-timey festival sported some age-old customs that were so buckwild, I actually felt a tad SPIRITUAL up in here.
SoloTravelBlog is international travel with a buckwild edge. Currently, I'm living in Japan and exploring all the weird and wonderful things this country has to offer. Subscribe for more updates on my exploits in Asia, baby.

CAMERA & AUDIO EQUIPMENT I USE:
Camera: Sony RX100 M3 ►
Voiceover Mic: Samson Go Mic ►
In-Field Mic: Zoom H1 ►
Tripod: Manfrotto Pixi ►
EXPLANATION: I try to keep my equipment as simple as possible. 90% of the time, all I use to film is my Sony RX100 M3, and all I use for audio is my Samson Go Mic (which I use to record voiceovers after filming). Occasionally I use the Zoom H1 for audio if I want to record audio in-field. As for the Pixi tripod, I sometimes use it while filming food, but most of the time I use it to mount my Samson Go Mic on a desk for voiceovers (in conjunction with the other accessories, listed below).
MODULAR COMPONENTS I USE:
Smatree SmaPole S3 (hollow pole only) ►
Joby Action Arm (arm only) ►
Joby Hand Grip (hand grip only) ►
Joby Hub Adapter ►
EXPLANATION: Because I'm often traveling, I prefer to have the lightest, smallest, most versatile components available. Therefore, I use bits and pieces from the above gear sets, and these bits and pieces can be connected together in a huge variety of ways. For example, they can be made into a long selfie stick, they can be mounted to my tripod to make it extra-tall, and they can be used with my tripod and Go Mic to position the microphone directly in front of my face while I'm recording voiceovers at a desk.
MICROPHONE ACCESSORIES I USE:
Foam Mic Cover ►
Pop Filter ►
EXPLANATION: To improve sound quality for voiceovers, I place a mic cover on the Samson Go Mic, then use an elastic band to hang the pop filter on top. This is not the best audio protection available, but it is the most minimalistic and space-efficient gear for traveling. The mic cover can also be used on the rare occasion that I record audio with the Zoom H1.
GEAR I USE FOR CHARGING ON-THE-GO:
Anker Mini PowerBank ►
Silicone Cables ►
Adapter for Micro to Mini ►
Adapter for Micro to Lightning ►
EXPLANATION: Anker's lipstick-sized powerbanks are small yet powerful. I travel with two, so that if one has a low charge, I can charge it in my hotel while I'm out and about with the other powerbank. Using the powerbank in conjunction with the short, durable silicone cables and micro/mini/lightning adapters means I can charge just about any device while on-the-go.

Japan: Colossal animatronic T-Rex wows Chiba museum visitors
Dinosaur lovers got up close and personal to frighteningly-realistic animatronic models of the prehistoric juggernauts at the Giga Dinosaur Exhibition 2017 in Chiba on Saturday.
The exhibitions' two prized gems are a full-scale animatronic T-Rex and a brand new skeletal reconstruction of a huge Ruyangosaurus, which stands at 38 metres (124.6ft) long and 14 metres (45.9) tall.

Miwa Kyusetsu XI (1910-2012)
Born the third son of the Miwa kiln's ninth generation Kyusetsu (Setsudo) of Hagi ware tradition, Miwa Kyusetsu studied under his father and older brother (the 10th generation Kyusetsu: Kyuwa) after graduating middle school, and also studied under Kawakita Handeishi.
After a long period of training, he took on the pottery artist name Kyu and displayed his work in 1955. He was chosen for a prize for the first time in the Fourth Japan Traditional Kogei Exhibition in 1957, and he continued to be chosen for prizes from that point onward. In 1960, he was nominated for member of the Japan Kogei Association.
In 1967, following the voluntary retirement of his older brother, the 10th generation Kyusetsu, he succeeded the name as the 11th generation Miwa Kyusetsu. After that, he received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 1976 and the Fourth Class Order of the Sacred Treasure in 1982. He was acknowledged as a Yamaguchi Prefectural Preserver of Intangible Cultural Property in 1972 and a Nationally Designated Preserver of Important Intangible Cultural Property in 1983, both for his techniques in Hagi ware.
He skilfully inherited the traditional korai pottery art and the Kyusetsu White glaze style created by his older brother. Furthermore, he developed an openhearted, daring way of making pottery called Onihagi, which he himself invented during his long period of training, clearly expressing his individuality as the 11th generation Miwa Kyusetsu. He gave his name to Ryusaku and retired, making his pottery artist name Jusetsu and continuing to vigorously make pottery.
He passed away due to old age on December 11th.
ONI (鬼)
Legendary creatures of Japanese folklore, the Oni are gigantic demons similar to orcs, with claws and horns that grow from their heads, and embody the forces of nature. In folk tales they are often described as wicked and destructive creatures. It is said that originally they were benevolent creatures capable of keeping away evil spirits, then, especially in popular tales, they began to be identified as monsters with destructive power, guardians of the underworld and bearers of natural calamities. It has been hypothesized that the Oni are nothing more than a transfiguration of the Emishi and the Ainu, ancient peoples who lived in some regions of Japan and who opposed the domination of the Japanese emperors during the late Nara and early Heian periods and were then exterminated.
