Driving Downtown - The Navy Pier - Chicago Illinois
Cost: $14 for parking.
Navy Pier is a 3,300-foot-long (1,010 m) pier on the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan. It is located in the Streeterville neighborhood of the Near North Side community area. The pier was built in 1916 at a cost of $4.5 million. It was a part of the Plan of Chicago developed by architect and city planner Daniel Burnham and his associates. As Municipal Pier #2 (Municipal Pier #1 was never built), Navy Pier was planned and built to serve as a mixed-purpose piece of public infrastructure. Its primary purpose was as a cargo facility for lake freighters, and warehouses were built up and down the Pier. However, the Pier was also designed to provide docking space for passenger excursion steamers, and in the pre–air conditioning era parts of the Pier, especially its outermost tip, were designed to serve as cool places for public gathering and entertainment. The Pier even had its own tram. Today, the pier is one of the most visited attractions in the entire Midwestern United States and is Chicago's number one tourist attraction.[2]
Fourth use: public gathering place
Centerpiece attractions include a Ferris wheel,[8] an IMAX theater, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Amazing Chicago's Funhouse Maze, the Chicago Children's Museum, the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows, and at the entrance to Navy Pier is a statue of Oak Park comedian Bob Newhart, sponsored by the TV Land network.[9]
The Pier now features a large front lawn showcasing numerous larger-than-life public art sculptures and an interactive animated fountain created by WET (of Fountains of Bellagio fame). The Pier continues to be used as an embarkation point for tour and excursion boats and is a popular place to watch lakefront events, including the annual Air and Water airshow and the parade of lighted and decorated boats during Chicago's Venetian Night festival.
The Pier and its grounds encompass more than 50 acres (200,000 m2) of parks, gardens, shops, restaurants and other shore entertainment. Navy Pier contains 170,000 total square feet of exhibition space, 50,000 square feet (5,000 m2) of reception space and 48,000 square feet (4,500 m2) of meeting room space.
Attractions
Navy Pier attractions include sightseeing tours from companies such as Seadog Ventures, Shoreline Sightseeing cruises and Water Taxi service, and the Tall Ship Windy. There are also dinner cruises by Entertainment Cruises, on their ships the Spirit of Chicago, The Odyssey II, and the Mystic Blue. The Pier has fireworks on Wednesday and Saturday nights during the summer and Saturday nights during the fall.[9]
The popular Strictly Sail boat show and Chicago Flower and Garden Show are held at the Pier, as are many other fairs and expositions throughout the year. There are also seasonal festivals for Halloween and Christmas. The Chicago Children's Museum is a part of Navy Pier, with many different exhibits and activities for both children and adults to enjoy while visiting the museum.[9][10] The Pier also has an IMAX theater and the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows, many of which were salvaged from Chicago mansions.
An anchor from the naval vessel USS Chicago (CA-136/CG-11) is on display at the far end of the Pier[11]
Pier Park
Pier Park is a landscaped area outdoors on the upper deck, between the Crystal Gardens and the Pepsi Skyline Stage.[8]
Attractions include the 150-foot (45.7 m) tall Navy Pier Ferris Wheel, which was manufactured by Vekoma[12] and opened on July 1, 1995.[13] It operates year-round, weather permitting, and has 40 gondolas, each seating up to 6 passengers. Its 40 spokes, spanning a diameter of 140 feet (42.7 m), are illuminated in the evenings.[8]
The world record for the longest Ferris wheel ride was set by Clinton Shepherd, the park operations manager, who spent 48 hours, 8 minutes and 25 seconds riding the Pier's wheel over the weekend of May 18–19, 2013.[14]
Other rides include a musical carousel, the Light Tower Ride, and Wave Swinger, an old-fashioned swinging thrill ride almost 40 feet (12 m) high.[8]
Other Pier Park amusements include an 18-hole miniature golf course, and token-operated remote-control boats.[8]

The vibe at Board Room is both high-energy and high-class thanks to its stellar sound and lighting systems and professionally trained staff. Tables overlook the dj booth and if your Valentine's date is getting too hot dancing the night away the rain shower effect that is incorporated into the wood décor adds a nice, cooling effect! Now, let's get to my favorite part.... Board room encourages its clients, yes you! to dance ON TOP OF your booth! Some would call this lounge river north's Boutique nightclub. We say ending the night with bottle service, beautiful staff and a laser show will captivate the most hardened of hearts!

For Lobster and Romance, perfect to celebrate the love holiday this week I think Acadia in the South loop is the ideal date spot. If you've been to the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place this week and needed a close walking place to warm up from the cold, Acadia's bar is also very amazing. The sophisticated elegance of Acadia provides a perfect backdrop for its contemporary and classic cuisine from Chef Ryan McCaskey. An open kitchen and wine room reinforce Acadia's commitment to quality food and wine. Chef McCaskey spent his early culinary days up in Maine, so needless to say the man knows lobster! His lobster pie and Lobster roll is one of the best I've had and is sure to impress even the most finicky of Valentine's Day dates.

Park National Bank: Too Good to Fail? Trailer
Too Good to Fail? is a documentary film about the FDIC's seizure of Park National Bank, a philanthropic community bank in the Chicago area. The film follows a group of activists that travel from the west side of Chicago to attend a congressional hearing on the take over in Washington DC. Individuals and organizations helped by Park National's charitable efforts tell the story of the resistance to, what they consider, an unjust take over, calling it the largest bank robbery in the history of the United States. The film will be released in March of 2010.
Dane County Regional Airport Virtutal Tour
Hello and welcome to the Dane County Regional Airport. On behalf of the Dane County Executive, I want to welcome you to our beautiful facility, designed with your ease and comfort in mind.
Dane County Regional Airport is located on International Lane on Madison's north side and is just minutes from many of the county's largest employers and some of the best attractions in south central Wisconsin.
Upon arrival, you will notice the Prairie Style architecture inspired by the designs of Wisconsin-native, Frank Lloyd Wright. Even our landscaping speaks to our natural, prairie-like surroundings.
As you drive into the complex, signs direct you to our parking facilities. Near the terminal there are four lanes for dropping off and picking up passengers, and two more lanes for commercial service vehicles.
You will also find plenty of parking options, both in our ramp and in our surface lots directly across from the terminal. There's also a park and walk economy lot. And for ease in picking up passengers, there is a free cell phone lot south of the terminal.
A separate holding bay for taxis, a rental car area, and an exit for pass through traffic are at the north end of the parking area.
Inside, the Prairie Style theme has been incorporated throughout the terminal, giving the space a more home-like, personal feel than you will find at most other airports.
There is an expansive ticket lobby....and 13 new passenger loading gates...11 with bridges...and state-of-the-art security.
Business travelers appreciate the services the Dane County Regional Airport provides, like WI-FI wireless internet capability, individual work stations, and conference rooms.
Leisure travelers, especially those with children, appreciate the family and mother's lounges. Comfortable leather seating can be found throughout the terminal, especially in our cozy Meeters and Greeters lounge.
There are also a variety of shops and restaurants, including Lake Country Market and Wisconsin Marketplace, and local dining favorites like The Great Dane Brew Pub and Ancora Coffee, among others.
There's also a bit of the unexpected at the Dane County Regional Airport, including our Art Court, which features exhibits from around the area and across the world. The exhibits are free and open to the public...
And the Corben Super Ace plane suspended from the ceiling on the south end of the terminal. The Corben was a sport aircraft built right here in Madison in the 1930's.
More details about the Dane County Regional Airport can be found on this web site. Just select any of the drop down menus on the left of the screen.
Convenience, comfort, and a bit of the unexpected...it's what we strive to bring you at the Dane County Regional Airport...because we believe air travel is all about the journey. We look forward to seeing you soon.

United Airlines handcuffs: First-class passenger threatened with cuffs to leave plane - TomoNews
LOS ANGELES — A former United Airlines customer claims staff threatened to handcuff him if he didn’t give up his seat to make way for a “higher priority” traveler last week.
High-flying businessman Geoff Fearns came forward with his story after the forcible removal of a passenger from a United plane on Sunday, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Fearns paid $1,000 for a first-class ticket from Hawaii to LA but was then told to get off the plane.
The finance executive said United staff told him somebody more important showed up at the last minute, and if he didn’t budge they would remove him by force.
Fearns was eventually downgraded to economy, and placed between a married couple who refused to sit next to each other and argued for the entire 6-hour flight.
Back at home, Fearns asked United for a full refund and a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice.
United turned down both requests. Instead they offered Fearns the difference between the first-class ticket and an economy ticket.
The airline then got in touch a week later to offer a $500 credit for a future trip, but Fearns said he would never fly United again.
This latest PR blow to the airline comes in the wake of the forcible removal of passenger Dr David Dao from a Chicago to Louisville flight on Sunday.
On Wednesday, United offered a full refund to everyone on that flight and said it would no longer get the cops to remove passengers from planes that were too full, the New York Times reported.
Chicago’s Department of Aviation said two more officers involved in the removal of Dao had been placed on leave, pending an investigation. Three officers in total have now been placed on leave.
Meanwhile, attorneys for Dao filed an emergency request with an Illinois state court on Wednesday to force United to preserve video and other evidence related to the removal of their client from the plane, according to Reuters.
Which in all likelihood means the lawyers are preparing a huge-ass lawsuit for damages against United.

Well they call it Black Friday because that is indeed the time when all the retailers start to make money, in this last several weeks of the year. So this is very, very important for us. And in terms of how that impacts the economy, it's extremely important. Retail and restaurants represent 1 in 5 jobs in America. So if we do well, we grow, then we're going to be the ones that will start to lead us into a recovery and out of the difficulty that we've had in terms of job hiring, unemployment and all of those challenging issues that relate to that.

SHOPPERS QUEUEING FOR HOLIDAY SALES IN NEW YORK
Bargain shoppers, braving rain or frigid weather, crowded America's stores and malls in the early hours of the night to get their hands on deals from televisions to toys on Black Friday.
Black Friday, usually the busiest shopping day of the year, is a day in which retail stores have enough sales to put them in the black - an accounting expression alluding to the practice of recording losses in red and profits in black
In a bid to grab shoppers earlier than the traditional start to the holiday shopping season, a number of stores including Old Navy, Toys R Us and Sears opened on Thursday's Thanksgiving holiday.
One of New York's famous shopping destinations, Macy's on 34th street opened at 4 a.m. (0900 GMT) on Friday.
Black Friday shopper David Guadelope, who was among those waiting outside for the doors to open, said he hoped to save as much as 60 US dollars.
Macy's Chief Executive Terry J. Lundgren said Black Friday was more than just a big sale.
Retail and restaurants represent 1 in 5 jobs in America. So if we do well, we're going to be the ones that will start to lead us into a recovery, said Lundgren.
According to Toys R Us CEO Jerry Storch, the flagship store in Times Square drew 1,500 shoppers.
The good news is that US retailers are heading into the season with some momentum after a solid start to November.
