Merida Mexico City Tour - Hidden Gems, Yucatan Food and More… | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids
Welcome to Merida which is a truly beautiful travel destination, inside and out.
Nicknamed the ciudad blanca (white city), you certainly do see some white structures while roaming around the grid-like streets of this charming colonial city. Yet we find that the white buildings are actually outnumbered by colorful pastel architecture, adding much vibrancy to Merida’s colonial look.
But it’s Merida’s culture that shines through even brighter. Perhaps that helps to explain why Merida is the only city that has been twice selected to serve as the American Capital of Culture (2000, 2017). You can find culture oozing all throughout Merida, whether admiring ancient Mayan artwork at a museum or simply soaking in the local culture that’s abundant within the swinging doors of Merida’s cantinas. The many cultural things to do in Merida and even the city’s daily cultural events are a big appeal to Yucatan’s largest city.
Here's some of the things you can do while visiting Merida:
- Take the Free Walking Tour
- Discover the Mayan World at the Gran Museo de Mundo Maya Merida
- Wander through the Lucas de Galvez Market Merida
- Attend One Of Merida’s Annual Festivals
- Experience Pok a Pok: Representation of the Mayan Ball Game
- Cruise the Famed Paseo de Montejo, Merida
- Explore Merida by Horse & Carriage
- Relax & Connect Among Mexico’s Most Pleasant Plazas
- Discover Local Yucatan Cuisine in Merida.
We did this at the Merida Mansion and it was a great cultural experience!
Enjoy the video and let us know where you're watching from!!!

Unbelievable Mexican Food - FIRE GRILLED MEAT + Cenote and Chichen Itza in Yucatán, Mexico!

We started off in the morning in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, and the plan was to drive all the way to Merida, the capital of Yucatan state. But on the way, we’d stop off to eat some amazing Mexican food, and also visit some attractions in Yucatan like a cenote and Chichen Itza. It turned out to be one of the most amazing days of my Mexico trip - here’s everything we did and ate.
Tacos De Cecina Estilo Yecaixtla - Before leaving Playa Del Carmen, we desperately needed some taco nourishment, and so we stopped at Tacos De Cecina Estilo Yecaixtla, a street food stall that’s known for their beef tacos. I tried a few of their tacos, all of which were outstanding, and overflowing with meat!
Price - 74 MXN ($3.97) for my plate
Cenote X'canché - We drove towards Valladolid, and not too far from there is a cenote known as Cenote X'canché. The hard thing about Yucatan and visiting a cenote is that there are so many to choose from, but since we had a car, I wanted to go to one that was a little more off the beaten path and quiet. It proved to be an amazing experience, so quiet and peaceful.
Entrance - 50 MXN ($2.69), Bicycle ride - 100 MXN ($5.37) per person
La Tía de Kaua - There’s a Mexican food Yucatan dish known as poc chuc, that’s one of the ultimate dishes from the region - usually made of pork marinated and grilled or cooked over a hot fire griddle. In the sleepy town of Kaua, we stopped at La Tía de Kaua for some incredible poc chuc and freshly ground habanero tomato salsa. It was such an insanely delicious meal.
Total price - 300 MXN ($16.11) for 4 adults
Chichén Itzá - Finally, to wrap of the day of Mexican food and attractions in Yucatan, we drove to Chichen Itza. It’s one of the most visited attractions in Mexico and it’s an amazing sight to see. We arrived in the late afternoon, and luckily it wasn’t too busy.
Entrance price - 242 MXN ($13) per person
Mérida - Finally we arrived to Merida at night. Stay tuned for the next Merida street food tour!

My BIGGEST ADVENTURE In POKÉMON GO! Catching CORSOLA At CHICHEN ITZA Near MÉRIDA MEXICO!
???????? Catching Corsola in Pokémon GO. I traveled to Chichen Itza, near Mérida Mexico. My biggest adventure yet! I also caught Heracross and other rare Pokémon in Yucatan! If you would have told me in 2016, when this game first came out, that in 2018 I'd be at the base of one of the New Seven Wonders Of The World catching a regional Pokémon, I would have 100% not believe you. This was an incredibly surreal experience, thank you for letting me share it!

Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico - Merida is an a beautiful, well organized, clean, and friendly city in Mexico, and the capital of the Yucatan State. We only had one full day in Merida on this trip, and so we wanted to make the most of it. I’m taking you on a one day Mexican street food and attractions tour of Merida!
Taqueria La Lupita - In the morning we first headed to a local market to eat breakfast. Taqueria La Lupita is a very cool breakfast spot where you can eat local Mexican Yucatan food. We tried some tacos de conchinta pibil, panuchos, relleno negro, and mondongo kabi. The panuchos were the winner.
Total price - 238 MXN ($12.64) for all
Maiz, Canela y Cilantro - It’s always good to have breakfast number 2, and this wasn’t a street food spot, but a nice cafe, and great for families. The reason I wanted to come here was to try their version of Huevos Motuleños, a Mexican egg dish originating from a small town of the same name not far away. It was a stunner.
Total price - 300 MXN ($15.94) for all
Plaza Grande and Horse Ride - Moving on to some of the sightseeing and attractions in Merida, we walked around Plaza Grande and took a horse ride to see some sights around the city. It was wonderful, to enjoy Merida from a horse carriage.
Mango - 15 MXN ($0.80) - One our way to the market, we stopped for a mango. Always delicious!
Mercado Lucas de Galvez - For lunch we headed to one of the main markets in the center of Merida called Mercado Lucas de Galvez. After walking around for a while we went upstairs and found a couple friendly aunties who cooked up a storm. We tried their, mole, relleno negro again, and sopa de Lima, which was the ultimate dish of the day for me.
Total price - 300 MXN ($15.94) for all
Restaurant y Cockteleria Tikinxic II - Finally for dinner I had really wanted to try a Mayan fish dish called tikin xic before leaving the Yucatan, so we searched out a Mexican seafood restaurant to try. It was a little outside of the center of the city, but it was pretty good.
Total price - 758 MXN ($40.27) for all
This was a fantastic day of Mexican street food in Merida. Merida is one of the most pleasant cities to explore in Mexico!

One of the best destinations in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is Merida. With a great location full of history, beauty, and some of the most authentic and genuinely nicest people you can’t help but see why so many are falling in love with this city.
We also visited Progresso Beach which is about 20-30 minutes north of the city on the Gulf of Mexico.
Home to the longest pier in Mexico, this relaxed beach town has a laid-back vibe and gets packed with tourists enjoying the water and loads of restaurants serving fresh seafood .
You won’t want to miss The Gran Museo del Mundo Maya. Here you will learn all about Mayan history & culture.
Our next stop was the Santa Barbara Cenotes where we took a horse drawn railroad cart to the beautiful crystal blue water Cenotes.
Enjoy the video and please let us know where you're watching from!

Chichen Itza - Mayan City in Yucatan, Mexico
Short video capturing Chichen Itza with its archeological wonders. This old Mayan city was built between 600 AD to 1200 AD.
An estimated 1.2 million tourists visit the ruins every year and it is the second-most visited of Mexico's archaeological sites (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Chichen-Itza, now including one of the new 7 wonders of the world; the Kukulkan Pyramid, is located in the Peninsula of Yucatan, in the Yucatan State; Mexico, between Valladolid and Merida and is just 120 km from Merida.
Unfortunately it is no longer possible to climb the pyramid for safety and protection reasons.

5 Must Do Adventures in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is famous for Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, world-famous destinations attracting millions of visitors each year with their picture-perfect beaches and high-class resorts. But since we came to Mexico for it’s nature and culture, we were looking for adventures off-the-beaten-path in Yucatan. Today, we’d like to share our top 5 experiences with you.
01:09 Punta Laguna – head into the jungle with a local, Mayan guide, observe spider monkeys in the wild, kayak and zipline over a lively lagoon, spot some caimans and let them lower you into a hidden underground cenote.
02:43 Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve – known for it’s natural beauty and sustainable tourism, the reserve contains a beautiful stretch of beach with a off-shore coral reef and lively mangroves where you can spot birds, caymans and manatees.
03:18 Bacalar – not a big secret anymore, but the „Lagoon of Seven Colors“ with crystal clear water in all shades of blue is still worth a visit. Rent a kayak and paddle out to the „Canal de los Piratas“
03:40 Calakmul – one of the largest and most powerful ancient Maya ruins, nestled in the middle of a lush rain forest. Find yourself surrounded by wild animals while hiking through the widespread historical site and climb the highest structures for a spectacular view04:47 Ek Balam – a great alternative to Calakmul is Ek Balam, a Mayan site much more accessible and still less visited than most other ruins in the area
04:56 Cenotes – the natural highlight of the Pensinsula are around 3.000 sinkholes filled with fresh water. They’re an important habitat for plants and animals, considered as the entrance of the Mayan underworld and a perfect place to explore above and below the water surface. Find cliff jumps, rope swings (San Lorenzo Oxman Cenote) and spectacular places for snorkeling and scuba diving (Casa, Carwash, Dos Ojos, …).
If you’re interested in scuba diving the Cenotes or with the bull sharks living close to Playa del Carmen’s coast, check out our previous videos!
Have you been to the Yucatan Peninsula? Which were your favorite destinations there? Did you enjoy the cities, or prefer the natural surroundings as well? Share your experiences with us in the comments!
