Chichen Itza's Famous Pyramid is Actually Two Pyramids
El Castillo, or the Temple of Kukulcan, is 98 feet tall and has 365 steps. What you can't see from the outside is the original, much smaller pyramid that acted as a foundation.

Chichén Itzá Pyramids ???????? México Travel Guide - Travel & Discover
Chichen Itza was one of the largest Maya cities and it was likely to have been one of the mythical great cities, or Tollans, referred to in later Mesoamerican literature. The city may have had the most diverse population in the Maya world, a factor that could have contributed to the variety of architectural styles at the site.

The Day Tripper's Guide to Chichen Itza
A day trip to Chichen Itza, in the Mexican state of Yucatan, is a must for any travellers looking to transport themselves back to an ancient Mayan world. An incredible site of meticulous ruins, this location is home to some one of the world’s most fascinating cultures. The famous majestic Temple of Kukulkan, a new wonder of the world, is one of the most breathtaking structures on the globe. A stone’s throw from the site lies the Cenote Ik Kil, a massive sinkhole that was once a sacred sacrificial site for the local Mayan tribes. Now one of the most picturesque swimming holes you’ll ever see, it’s one of the most beautiful locations in Mexico, and provides a great opportunity for visitors to cool off in crystal clear waters, surrounded by waterfalls, vines and cliff faces.

????????CHICHEN ITZA, YUCATAN, MEXICO - If you're planning a Mexico trip in 2018 and plan on visiting Cancun and the Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza will probably be included in your list of Things to Do in Mexico!
Chichen Itza is arguably the most famous and most frequently visited example of Mayan Ruins in Mexico, largely due to it's proximity to Cancun which is often used as a tourist/holiday destination. But how does Chichen Itza compare to other Mayan ruins in the region from Uxmal, Xunantunich and Tikal?
In this video you will learn how to get there from Valladolid, entry costs, some hints and tips and as always a little bit of history. Remember to visit Chichen Itza early, as it does get busy!
If you'd like to see videos with other examples of Mexican Pyramids, you can check out videos from Uxmal and Teotihuacan in my HUGE MEXICO PLAYLIST!!
Please note this video was filmed with a new phone and I had numerous problems with focusing, resolution and encoding when rendering the video. Apologies if the quality is not as good as usual.
