Mexico Travel: Chichen Itza Day Trip from Cancun via Viator
On my trip to Cancun I visited the Mayan city of Chichen Itza via Viator tour deal. (
The tour consisted of them picking you up early from your hotel or hotel you would like to be picked up at. We boarded a bus on a 2.5hr journey to Chichen Itza. Before we arrived we made a stop at an Mayan artisan shop. Around mid day, we arrived at the UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the wonders of the world known as Chichen Itza. We were given about a 1hr tour around the main archeological site, then given an additional hour to explore on our own. After we were taken to a the ik kil cenote, where we ate and dove into. It was a great experience and recommend it.

Chichen Itza Tours - Everything You Need To Know
This is an inside look at a Group Sightseeing tour of Chichen Itza. From everything you can expect, prices, pro's and con's of visiting Chichen Itza while on a private tour.
It was the middle of September and while we were in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico we decided to go to Chichen Itza. One of the new 7 Wonders of The World. We started shopping around and while there is a ADO that does a daily trip from Playa Del Carmen and back we decided on booking on a group tour from the travel agency Solatino Tours and Travel. Using Group Sightseeing as tour company we were off. We paid $750 peso per person. As far as I could tell everyone we went to in Playa Del Carmen was selling the exact same tour experience of Chichen Itza.
The tour starts with them picking you up at your hotel at around 8 in the morning to transport you to the tour bus. It's a mix of English and Spanish so the tour can be a little long. During the ride to the first destination, which took about 3 hours they go over a lot of Mayan history. How the civilization grew to be as powerful as they were, their writing, numbing system and a complete backstory on the Mayan culture.
Our first stop was at the Cenote Hubiku just north of Valladolid Mexico. A cenote is a natural sinkhole resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. While you're here you have access to the cenote, all you can eat buffet (excluding drinks), there's a Mayan replica village, gift shop and tequila room but remember to use your time wisely because we only spent 2 hours here.
To finish the trip off we spent 30 minutes in the city of Valladolid Mexico. The bus tour stops in the city center and let's tourist get off, stretch, grab a quick meal or visit the Iglesia de San Servacio. A Catholic Church that was once a Mayan city, destroyed by the Spanish in the 16 century and used to build to what you see in the video.
Now on to the main attraction. Chichen Itza. The tour starts at the iconic Mayan temple, Kukulkan. Also known as El Castillo. The tour then took us to the Great Ball Court, Temple of the Warriors and The Plaza of a Thousand Columns. It's hard to do justice of Chichen Itza in a video so I tried to focus more on the review of the tours they sell in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
I hope you like the video, subscribe to my channel for similar videos and i'll see you in the next one =)

Chichen Itza Tour | Cancun and Riviera Maya
Pack 1,000 years of history into a one-day excursion with one of the best tickets to #Chichen Itza, whose magnificent ruins make it part of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Travel from #Cancun or Riviera Maya to discover some of the planet’s most fascinating cultural riches at an archaeological complex full of temples and ancient structures, with a bilingual guide showing you the way. This Chichen Itza #Tour includes lunch at a local restaurant featuring the flavors of the Yucatan Peninsula, plus a refreshing swim at a nearby cenote (freshwater sinkhole) for a complete immersion into the Mayan world.
Your adventure begins early in the morning with transportation from your Cancun or Riviera Maya resort to Yucatan state, home to the hallowed grounds of Chichen Itza. This site was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World because of the way it preserves the invaluable cultural heritage of the Mayan Empire after many centuries. Your bilingual guide will be on hand to give you all the information about one of the most impressive structures in Mesoamerica, a pre-Columbian cultural region extending approximately from central Mexico to Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and northern Costa Rica.
After checking in with your Chichen Itza ticket, your tour starts upon entering the archaeological complex, and you’ll be at the foot of the awe-inspiring Temple of Kukulcan almost from the onset. Also known as El Castillo, this step pyramid dominates the scene at 98 feet (30 meters) tall. There are lots of myths and legends to find out about, and the sheer amount of mathematical precision you’ll witness at this temple will astound you. Learn the fact that there are 91 steps on each of the pyramid’s four sides, which added together with the top platform totals 365 steps, the same number of days in a year. Even more, if you’re lucky enough to be visiting during the spring and autumn equinox, watch for the shadow of Kukulcan, the Serpent God who slithers down the side of the main temple’s staircase in an otherworldly display of architectural exactness.
Encounter more structures, such as the Observatory and the Ball Court
But no matter what season you get your tickets to Chichen Itza, you will receive lots more information as your guide gauges your level of interest throughout the tour. You’ll also have the opportunity to try out experiences that are more hands-on. For example, you must attempt to clap your hands in front of the Temple of Kukulcan to hear the echo bounce back as the chirping of a sacred bird. You'll also get a chance to view other fascinating structures, such as the magnificent Observatory temple. Also called El Caracol because of its snail-shaped stairway inside, the Mayan astronomers climbed the temple to view the stars and the skies to make accurate astronomical calculations. Most notably, the Observatory was used to track the planet Venus and other celestial movements year after year.
Nearby on this sector of the complex, you can find the Nunnery and the Monastery, intricately decorated temples that housed Chichen Itza’s respected clergy. These holy men and women were instrumental in preserving the religious worldview that differentiated their people. You will also explore the Ball Court, a field where the Mayans used to play the ancient 'pitz' ball game as a rite of passage. Additionally, you’ll explore the Temple of the Warriors and several other structures that are similarly columned. And throughout your walk, you’ll view smaller pyramids whose stairways have the same two-snake motif, just like the Temple of Kukulcan.
