The UK Tour - Episode #1 - Seaford Head GC
Back in March Nikolas, Alex, Laurens & I went on a weeklong trip to England to play 206 holes over 8 days. This is the result of our shennanigans. Enjoy!

A Pioneering Club
Seaford was one of the first towns in England to establish a golf club. The first two golf clubs to be established in Sussex were at Eastbourne and here in Seaford where the club was founded by a small number of local residents on 6th August 1887.
There was obviously much work to do – land to be obtained and members to be recruited and all this was done prior to the first General meeting which was held just a few weeks later on 8th September.
The First Course
150 acres of land adjacent to Seaford Head were leased from Mr Launcelot Harison of Sutton Place, Seaford (now Newlands School) the rent was £70 per year. A golf course of twelve holes was established on the land however the land was still grazed by sheep; the shepherd’s cottage occupied by Ruben Russell occupying the centre of the course.
The twelve holes were laid out by a Mr Thompson of Felixstowe. Coincidentally like Seaford Head, the Felixstowe golf course also overlooks a Martello Tower. The course was one and a quarter miles in distance and if eighteen holes were required the first five holes were replayed with an extra hole adjacent to the Shepherd’s Cottage.
It was extended to an 18 hole in 1889. The course and the clubhouse were taken over by Seaford Urban District Council in May 1928. In 1940 the Course was requisitioned by the military for the duration of the war and ploughed up for food production, some of this being evident today on the 4th, 15th and 18th holes. It was reconstructed in 1946 and is now the responsibility of Seaford Town Council who manage the Course from their offices in Seaford.

Aerial Photography of West Wittering, near Chichester, West Sussex
West Wittering is a beautiful seaside village in West Sussex, near Chichester (England). My grandfather spearheaded the creation of West Wittering Estate Ltd to protect the beach from hotel / golf course development. As this video shows, more that 50 years on, the coastline is intact and remains open to the public.
This aerial flyover (taking from, and landing, at Little Hayes, Elms Lane, next to the Cricket Ground) shows the village, its church, the sailing club, beach and coastline.

Chichester Film & Video Makers are a group of enthusiastic amateurs committed to the art of film making.
The aim of the club is to encourage an interest in film and video production as a medium of information, education and entertainment, increasing the knowledge and technical ability of our members.
Whether you have a camcorder, DSLR or just an i Phone it doesn't matter. If you are an actor, screenwriter or just want to be part of the film crew, come along and see us.
We have members from beginner to advanced level who cover all genres of filmmaking from Documentry, Narative Storytelling and even Music Videos. They are all willing to share their knowledge and help anyone who wants to improve their film making skills. We hold an Annual Competition in which a variety of trophies are awarded including one for Best Film or Video, Best Narration, Best Edited and Sound Track. Throughout the year competitions are held for Best Holiday, Best Documentary and a competition for the Best Film, any genre not exceeding five minutes duration.
As well as competing in the internal Club competitions, members often enter films videos in external events such as Regional and National Film Festivals, some venturing into the International arena. The Club and its members have won over 250 awards in these competitions.
The club is actively involved in the community with other local organisations and charities, working together to produce first class DVDs of local events.
