A suburban area of Tokyo rich in nature and with many tourist sites
Area Characteristics
Saitama is an inland prefecture with more than 7 million people. With an area of 3,797km2（1,466mile2）, it is bigger than the 179th-biggest nation of Samoa（2,842km2＝1,097mile2）. Access to the southern part of the prefecture which includes Omiya and Urawa is excellent as a bedroom community of Tokyo while the northern area which includes the city of Chichibu has plenty of nature.
Major Sites
Saitama Prefecture has Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park among many other sightseeing sites to enjoy nature including the downstream area of Nagatoro Gorge. Along with the landmarks of Saitama New Urban Center and Saitama Super Arena, there is a great variety of spots to see such as The Railway Museum, Bonsai Village and Kawagoe which has been dubbed “Little Edo”.
Food
Soka senbei (rice crackers), Kawagoe potato cakes and Kumagaya gokabo sweets are the 3 famous confections of Saitama. Furthermore, the prefecture is also famous as a treasure house for its comfort food including Kitamoto tomato curry which won a national curry contest, Hatogaya yakiudon (fried udon noodles) which has been recognized as one of the Top 5 yakiudon in Japan, and a form of karaage (deep-fried chicken) whose breading is made from Soka senbei. As well, there is Sayama tea which is among the Top 3 teas in the country and Coedo beer from Kawagoe which has even won acclaim abroad.
Transportation
There are 15 railways operated by JR and private corporations going from Tokyo into Saitama, so these are recommended over buses and cars. It’s customary to take the train from Tokyo Station for Omiya via Ueno or go through Ikebukuro to reach Kawagoe and Chichibu. Although Saitama has plenty of north-south lines, it has a dearth of east-west lines so if you are considering touring through the prefectural sightseeing spots, renting a car is convenient.

Japan Public Bus Chichibu Station to Otaki Onsen
I was taking on a risk of getting on the last bus of the day with just 1000 yen for the return trip.
It was a risk that made me travel on the bus and to take on the risk of not been able to get back in to Tokyo.

Chichibu is a city in the center of mountainous western Saitama Prefecture. Today, the administrative area of Chichibu city stretches out all the way to the borders of western Tokyo (Okutama) and Yamanashi, Nagano and Gunma prefectures. Thus a large part of the Saitama side of the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park is located within the official city limits.

Chichibu, Japan's hidden treasure on Velvia slide film
Within a mere 90 minutes of Ikebukuro station in Tokyo, it is surprising that photographers' and hikers' paradise Chichibu isn't discovered by more tourists yet. The rural town of Chichibu is located on a plateau surrounded by mountains and the train ride quickly gets very interesting once you have left the urban jungle that is Tokyo. Chichibu used to be well known and rich because of the silk production but never really recovered from the crash in raw silk prices during the early Meiji period which led to the Chichibu rebellion. The surrounding mountains and the resulting isolation has resulted in the preservation of lots of traditional customs. Chichibu is best known for its important 34 Kannon Temple Pilgrimage and its many festivals. The town itself feels like it is still stuck in the Showa period with loads of tiny shops and restaurants with the large Chichibu Shrine in its centre. The bubble that turned so many of the large Japanese cities into a wasteland of tall buildings and glass never arrived and I, for one, am very grateful for that.
The House of Miyamoto: The Spirit of Sumo (Chichibu, Japan)
We are in Oku-Chichibu to visit a traditional Japanese ryokan, the House of Miyamoto, owned by a former professional sumo wrester, Kazuteru Miyamoto, formerly known as Tsurugidake Teruki. Miyamoto retired from the sumo world in 2012 due to injury, and has since concentrated on the family business. Miyamoto is currently the 12th head of the family.

The House of Miyamoto in Ogano town has a history stretching back over 200 years. It was once a rich farmhouse that has now been converted into a small inn that can accommodate up to 6 groups at a time.
The House of Miyamoto brings the spirit of sumo wrestlers to its guests. If you are a fan of sumo, this place should be high on your priority list the next time you are in Japan. Even if you have no interest in sumo, it is still a highly enjoyable traditional Japanese experience that few other places can match.
Very closeby to the House of Miyamoto, is Miyamoto no Yu, which is an onsen facility & accommodation operated under the same brand, and offers a slightly more modern experience. It has a couple of very unique onsen baths there so check it out if you have spare time.
The House of Miyamoto does not have an official English title. It is sometimes referred to as Miyamoto-ke, or Miyamoto House, just to name two.

Nach dem Tagesausflug nach Yokohama ging es am folgenden Tag sogleich zu einem weiteren Ausflug, dieses Mal in die benachbarte Präfektur Saitama in die Ortschaft Chichibu. Der niedere Grund für diesen Ausflug ist erneut, dass einer meiner favorisierten Anime die Stadt als Schauplatz benutzt und ich jene Schauplätze als Angelpunkte der Stadterkundung nutzen wollte.

2018 Chichibu Night Festival - Saitama - 秩父夜祭 - 4K Ultra HD
Also known as Chichibu Yomatsuri, the Chichibu Night Festival is the festival of the Chichibu Shrine in Chichibu. It’s just over 150 km away from central Tokyo and is considered as one of Japan’s top three festivals to feature both majestic floats and fireworks.
Taking place annually on the 3rd of December, the Chichibu Night Festival is an astonishing matsuri, with its climax taking place in the evening when kasaboko and yatai floats, weighing 10-20 tons each and lit up with countless lanterns, climbing up a steep slope with a mikoshi (portable shrine).

Chichibu Festival Exhibition Hall features displays and demonstrations of the Chichibu Night Festival, one of the top three float festivals in Japan, held on December 3 each year. The sound and light shows fully utilize the latest technology to re-enact the Chichibu Night Festival to the Chichibu festival musical accompaniment. Visitors can get a close-up look at the historical and precious ornaments, including carvings, hangings, and gorgeously decorated festival floats and flower parasols made by master craftsmen of the Showa era.
