LE18 Corazón - Curicó Valley, Chile (Available February 2019)
Corazón, Spanish for ‘heart’, comes from the Curicó Valley located in the heart of Chile. Nestled in between the Andes and Coastal Range mountains, the valley’s vineyards reap many benefits from these towering neighbours. Meltwater rivers provide irrigation during dry summer months and deposit rich minerals in the soil, and hot sunny days are balanced by cool air drifting down from the snow-covered peaks of the Andes at night; these daily temperature
swings cause the grapes to ripen slowly, allowing for optimal flavour, tannin and colour development.
This wine is a charismatic blend of Carménère, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Pais. Carménère, the signature Chilean grape, delivers jammy raspberry and herbal spice. Cab Franc brings bold cherry, juicy berry and acidity, while Syrah lends intense black fruit flavours and tannin. Pais, widely planted in Chile for centuries but little-known elsewhere, rounds out the blend with rustic red fruit and crisp acidity. This juicy blend is full of expressive black and red berries, surrounded by cherry and tart plum notes in harmony with underlying oak, bright acidity and smooth polished tannins. Pair with rosemary lamb chops, beef skewers, Portobello mushroom burgers and aged cheddar.
SWEETNESS: Dry BODY: Medium-Full OAK: Medium ALCOHOL: 13%*

Adventures in Chile: Tasting Tour and a visit to Viñedo Chadwick
Part III of James's trip to Chile includes shots of the tasting room at Viña Vik Hotel, where James met with top producers in the region, and a side trip to Viñedo Chadwick.
Miguel Torres Chile- Official presentation 2019
Miguel Torres was founded in 1979 by the Torres family of Spain who has produced wine in Spain for over 140 years and has been owners of vineyards for 300 years.Miguel A. Torres decided to initiate the project in Chile based on the advice of Alejandro Parot, a Chilean friend and classmate from his studies in Dijon (France). The company acquired a vineyard of 100 hectares close to the Andes Mountain Range and a small cellar close to Curicó (a city located 200 km South of Santiago).
Miguel Torres was the first foreign winery to establish itself in Chile. Miguel Torres Chile has arisen as one of the premier wineries of quality in Chile over the last 40 years. A family business with a presence in more than 100 countries its trademarks stand for quality wine, respect for the environment and social responsibility.
This characteristic spirit of pioneering led Miguel Torres Chile to initiate many firsts in the Chilean wine industry including being the first winery in the country to introduce the use of stainless steel tanks in fermentation and French oak barrels for the aging of red wine. These investments in technology opened a new horizon for the Chilean wine industry.
Today the pioneering spirit of Miguel Torres Chile is more alive than ever guiding projects such as ¨Empedrado¨, the most ambitious project of the family to find a land with slate soil not found in Chile before.
Miguel Torres Chile, also contributed actively to the fight against global warming implementing measures such as the use of lighter bottles, recyclable materials (in its containers) and solar panels (renewable energy)
This philosophy is present throughout the total process of production as well as in the vineyards where traditional and environmentally nonabrasive methods of winemaking are employed. For this reason all of the Miguel Torres Chile vineyards have received or are soon to receive organic certification.
Along these lines of constant innovation and after years of research and work, Miguel Torres Chile succeeded in christening Estelado. The only sparkling rose that is produced with 100% País grapes, a vine that had been forgotten and undervalued for years despite being the oldest in Chile. The recuperation of this grape allows small producers to enter the market and raises the price of raw the material.
This project allows the winery to continue to lead as pioneers in Social Responsibility, with constant innovation and respect for the environment, focused on the production of high quality wines, as a brand that is on a global level for its prestige and different personality.
San Pedro de Atacama, El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region, Chile, South America
San Pedro de Atacama is a Chilean town and commune in El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region. It is located east of Antofagasta, some 106 km (60 mi) southeast of Calama and the Chuquicamata copper mine, overlooking the Licancabur volcano. It features a significant archeological museum, the R. P. Gustavo Le Paige Archaeological Museum, with a large collection of relics and artifacts from the region. Native ruins nearby now attract increasing numbers of tourists interested in learning about pre-Columbian cultures. Tourists also visit for other popular activities including sandboarding and stargazing, with the views of the stars from the Atacama unrivalled across the continent. San Pedro de Atacama grew, over centuries, around an oasis in the Puna de Atacama, an arid high plateau. Its first inhabitants were the Atacameños, who developed basketworks and ceramic pottery crafts that can be now be appreciated by tourists in the several souvenir shops as typical products of San Pedro de Atacama. It was part of Bolivia since independence until Chile claimed ownership during the War of the Pacific. According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, San Pedro de Atacama had 4,969 inhabitants (2,928 men and 2,041 women). Of these, 1,938 (39%) lived in urban areas and 3,031 (61%) in rural areas. The population grew by 5.6% (2,140 persons) between the 1992 and 2002 censuses. As a commune, San Pedro de Atacama is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a municipal council, headed by an alcalde who is directly elected every four years. The 2008-2012 alcalde is Sandra Berna Martínez. Within the electoral divisions of Chile, San Pedro de Atacama is represented in the Chamber of Deputies by Mr. Marcos Espinosa (PRSD) and Mr. Felipe Ward (UDI) as part of the 3rd electoral district, (together with Tocopilla, María Elena, Calama and Ollagüe). The commune is represented in the Senate by Carlos Cantero Ojeda (Ind.) and José Antonio Gómez Urrutia (PRSD) as part of the 2nd senatorial constituency (Antofagasta Region). The town lies at an average of 7,900 feet (2,400 m), and visitors often experience mild altitude sickness such as dizziness, lethargy and headaches. The local climate is extremely dry and mild, with daytime temperatures between 25--30 degrees Celsius (77--86 degrees Fahrenheit) in the summer (December to February) and 18--25 °C (64--77 °F) in the winter (June to August). Nighttime temperatures routinely drop below 0 °C (32 °F) and can reach as low as −10 °C (14 °F) in the winter. Köppen-Geiger climate classification system classifies its climate as cold desert (BWk)[6] for an isotherm of the mean yearly temperature of lower than 18 °C (64 °F), or as a hot desert (BWh) for an isotherm of the coldest month's mean temperature of 0 °C (32 °F) or lower. San Pedro lies on the main paved road from Argentina over the Paso de Jama, 160 km from the town. The road is paved throughout. There are frequent bus services to Calama, several buses daily to Santiago and buses on 6 days a week to Salta across the Andes in Argentina. There are various activities for tourist and adventurers in the San Pedro de Atacama area: trekking, climbing, archaeological sightings, exploration tours in natural landscapes and even sand boarding in the desert. Because of its altitude, a brief period of acclimatization may be required.
cheddar fort.
