Pure Evil Chile – British Art Meets Chilean Culture
On October 24th, the Chile Tourist Board flew Charles Uzzell Edwards aka Pure Evil to Valparaíso for a special opportunity to paint a piece of mural art, with local artist ValaClave which was documented by photojournalist for The Times, David Bebber.
Pure Evil has created his “Poema de Amor a Valparaíso” in a famous tourist area of Valparaíso, the Atkinson promenade on Concepcion Hill. The region has welcomed him following his wish to visit Valparaíso as part of his own personal history as well as his admiration for art in the area.

Afro-descendants in Paraguay celebrate their roots
(6 Jan 2019) The ceremonial and electrifying sound of drums filled the small Paraguayan city of Fernando de la Mora with joy and transformed it into a small corner of Africa, late on Saturday and into the early hours of Sunday.
Wearing brightly-coloured clothes, some of the local residents, who can trace their roots in this area back to 1820, paid tribute to their patron Saint Balthazar as they showcased their African heritage.
Each year members of the community of Kamba Cua in Fernando de la Mora – a city with about 160.000 residents – hold a festival in honour of Saint Balthazar where they celebrate with dances, customs and ancestral traditions.
(There are) children that are on stage since they were one or two years old, that is really important for us because that's how we preserve our culture, we keep our culture alive, said Adolfo Bogarín, dancer and president of Grupo Tradicional San Baltazar.
Kamba Cua is a historic district that was ceded to Jose Gervasio Artigas when he was exiled from Uruguay and received refuge in Paraguay by José Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia.
The Kamba ethnic Africans arrived at the area with Artigas' army.
Locals say they are planning a special festivity next year to mark the 200 years of the arrival of the Kamba Cua ethnic group to this part of Paraguay.

CHILE: Chilean Cueca dancing at El Viaje club in Valaparaiso
Cueca is popular throughout Argentina, Chile and Bolivia, but in Chile it was declared the national dance in 1979. It reminded us a lot of British Morris dancing but with a Latino flavour with handkerchiefs waved about for good measure.
Cueca dancing is similar to the rooster-chicken courtship with the dancers waving handkerchiefs above their heads, which symbolise the birds' feathers. The couple dancing face each other, moving in semi circles back and forth, with handkerchief in the air and dance, never touching but maintaining contact through facial expressions and movements. Before the song begins, the couple claps their hands in rhythm of the music.
Cueca is strongly associated with the huasos countryside lifestyle and is particularly popular during the rodeo events across the Central Valley between September and April.
We visited El Viaje club in Valparaiso on a Monday night where we saw this charming group cueca-ing away!

Our Chile Travel Guide features some of the best things to do in the country with our guide offering more than what is in an Chile itinerary or Chile tourism brochure.
The best of travel in Chile! Let's explore this incredible country together.
Visit Chile Travel Guide | Best things to do in Chile Travel Video Transcript:
Our trip to Chile wouldn't have been complete without a visit to the capital, so towards the end of our stay we decided to visit Santiago. We had 4 days to discover what the city was all about, so we set out to visit the main attractions, sample Chilean food, and explore various neighborhoods on foot. We may not have been able to see it all, but the following is our experience in the city. For anyone planning a similar trip, here's a look at 20 things to do in Santiago de Chile on your visit:
And that's a wrap for the Chilean capital! We hope you enjoyed this Santiago travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do, places to visit, and Chilean dishes to try in the city.
So, hello from Valparaiso. That means paradise on the valley. We have a few days to explore the city and we're planning to do most of it on foot. Yes, and most of it is going up hills as well. And there is so much cool street art here. So we're going to be taking a few different walking tours while we're in town. Today we're doing the first one which should be an overview of the city. And it should be fun. So we're going to take you on a little guided tour of Valparaiso. Yee-haw!
To say Valparaiso is a bit hilly would be an understatement. The city is a maze of steep inclines which means the best way to get around and save your legs for sightseeing, is by riding up and down the funiculars.
After close to a month travelling around Chile, Sam and I hopped on a plane to visit Easter Island, known locally as Rapa Nui. This was the closest we were ever going to get to this remote speck in the ocean, which also happens to be the southeastern most point of the Polynesian Triangle. We gave ourselves one full week to explore Isla de Pascua, and what follows is a travel guide of our time there. We hiked ancient volcanoes, stood face to face with the moai, watched spectacular sunrises and sunsets, and road tripped around the island while wild horses ran alongside. It was an incredible week and we hope this video will inspire you to plan your own visit to Easter Island.
Good afternoon from the town of San Pedro de Atacama in Chile. We've been here a few days taking a few different day trips to visit volcanoes and lagoons and see flamingos and doing lots of cool stuff. We've seen lots of wildlife, we've seen some amazing landscapes. And now we're going to show you the town. It's actually quite small and there isn't a lot to do but if you're taking tours from here you're going to end up spending a bit of time in San Pedro so yeah let's go take a little tour.

Chiloe Island Tours Video
Chiloe Island Tours Video Visitors who lament the supposed cultural homogeneity of Chile, or consider it too similar to their own country, obviously havent been to the misty, verdant archipelago of Chiloé. This group of islands evolved independently from the rest of the country and escaped much of the conforming influence of Santiago and the colonial onslaught. It then remained isolated and off the commercial route until nearby Puerto Montt was founded in the mid-19th century. Chiloé sprouted its own history and culture, unique to the islands, and is worthy of a visit for its striking regional flavor.
