Largest Aquarium in the World - Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, Zhuhai, China
Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is a theme park situated in Zhuhai, People's Republic of China. It is designed by PGAV Destinations. The park broke ground on 28 November 2010 and soft-opened on 28 January 2014. The grand opening occurred on 29 March 2014. The first phase of the park cost RMB 10 billion to build. It is part of the Chimelong International Ocean Tourist Resort. According to TEA and AECOM, it is the 10th most visited theme park in the world in 2018, with 10.83 million visitors.
Among its attractions are a wide range of amusements rides, animal shows, as well as the world's largest oceanarium with a total of 48.75 million litres of water.
Chimelong Ocean Kingdom also hold the records for largest underwater viewing dome, largest aquarium tank, largest aquarium window and largest acrylic panel, Guinness Book of World Records reports.
The park offers seven different aquatic-themed areas, with each symbolizing a different part of the ocean. It's part of Chimelong Hengqin Bay Hotel, which is the largest ecologically-themed hotel China.

Rising out of an island in Zhuhai is a giant shell and also is a new landmark of the city – Zhuhai Grand Theatre. It is designed in the shape of two shells – one at 90 meters high and one at 60 meters high. They imply the scallop gives birth to a pearl while the sea gives birth to a scallop, which leads to the name Zhuhai – “Pearl and Sea” in Chinese. To deliver an unforgettable dynamic LED experience to the citizens and tourists of Zhuhai, over 1,014 pieces of Traxon Dot-XL 9 RGB in a total of 51,000 pixels are installed behind the double-sided perforated aluminum façade for video playback and different lighting themes. Due to its fan-shaped design, customized pitch in 600mm and 800mm are mounted along the shell. The fixtures are paired with 9 pieces of e:cue Butler PRO and 1 piece of e:cue LCE2-fx to allow programming and replay of images and animations, incorporating holiday theme graphics for specific seasoned celebrations.

As the Winner of the 2014 Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement (Theme Park), the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom (长隆海洋王国) features one of the world's largest aquariums, with the rare whale shark, beluga whales, dolphins, polar bears, polar foxes, polar wolfs and other adorable animals! When you walk into the entrance there is a massive tall tunnel that you walk through that is like walking under the sea - shells, plants and rocky ledges on either side with a super huge screen high above that changes with different fish and creatures swimming above you. To me, the Ocean Kingdom sounds like something of a mix between Magic Kingdom and SeaWorld. In fact, the resort’s developer, Guangdong Chimelong Group, has stated that it hopes to turn Hengqin Island into “the Orlando of China,” using the Florida city as a model.
This aquarium is ranked in the Guinness as the largest aquarium and with the widest sightseeing window in the world. A staggering 48.75 million liters (12.87 million gallons) of salt and fresh water helped it outrank the one from the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. My favorite about their aquarium was the submarine ride. This mini-submarine will take you to the bottom of the aquarium and your seat will be laid down and the sea world will become your sky as if you were in a submarine! They have different show playing by the hour at different exhibit hall and featuring different animals. The beluga whale, dolphin and sea lion shows were all very good. Most impressive were the number of dolphins, whales and sea lions in each show - up to a dozen at the same time. They all seemed to interact with their trainers well and were very intelligent.
The firework and lake performance at night was truly amazing. The firework was much more than an amusement park standard. They have a firework shooting base in the center of the lake and at least 6 other shooting base outside of the lake that surrounds the audience. So the audience is covered with firework from the front, the side and the back. The 15 min evening closing spectacle occurs on the main central lake including jet-skis, fountains, fireworks, lasers and the like. There is also an evening Circus and the show is definitely worth seeing!
