Chin Swee Caves Temple Genting Highlands Malaysia | Visit Chinese Temple 2017 | Genting Highlands
Chin Swee Cave Temple is a popular tourist attraction and religious site located a few km before the peak of Genting Highlands on a sharp, rocky slope. Originally a cave temple, years of development have produced an expansive physical complex that extends far beyond the altar chamber, rooted in traditional Chinese architecture expressed by ornate prayer halls, colourful statues, opulent archways and its iconic pagoda tower. The temple was built by the founder of Genting (Lim Goh Tong) to venerate Buddhist figure Chin Swee, a year after he constructed the first resort and casino in 1975. The site was chosen as it reminded him of his birth village's landscape in Fujian, China.

Within the Temple is seated a statue of Qingshui, a Buddhist monk who has long been referred to as a deity in Fujian province, China for his supernatural abilities to summon rain and drive away evil spirits. The Temple attracts many local and foreign devotees from Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand and China. After completing the building of Genting Highlands Resort in 1975, which at that time was just a hotel with a small casino, he began construction of the Chin Swee Caves Temple. With the same dedication that he demonstrated in developing the Genting Highlands Resort, the late Tan Sri Lim began by gathering a group of friends many of whom were from his own Anxi Clan and ancestry village of Penglai in Fujian province, China, and established the Chin Swee Temple Society.

Chin Swee Caves Temple at Resorts World Genting Highlands
Chin Swee Caves Temple at Resorts World Genting Highlands ( where we escape to the clouds via a glass gondola cable car from the Sky Avenue Mall at Resorts World Genting. Despite the far flung location of this Taoist Chinese Temple it still feels local as it will likely be the most prominent temple within tens of miles in this region. But the temple is just so atmospheric, enshrined in clouds, and it reminds us somewhat of winter in China, only the mists here are refreshing clouds, rather than smog. Or the Himalayas even, as the mists just breeze in and around the compound. In short, it no longer feels like we’re in Malaysia. So it is very local, and taking the lift to the lower tiers of the temple we are met by a mix of smoky aromas. The smells of burning joss sticks, the smoke from of burning paper Chinese ancestral paper, and the tinge of the Chinese fire crackers which echo loudly through the temple compound.

Genting Highlands :Ten Chambers of Hell @ Chin Swee Caves Temple
The most interesting feature of the Chin See Cave Temple was the Ten Chambers of Hell.
==========================================
#malaysia #gentinghighlands #chinsweecavetemple #Tenchambersofhell #Hillstation #resortworld #Buddhistbelief #chinesetradition #chinesebelief #touristattractions
==========================================
These are a series of statues cut into the hillside containing life-sized figurines depicting the grisly scenes which many Chinese Buddhists believe await sinners after death.
The Ten Chambers operate like this:
1st Chamber. This is a kind of sorting office where the actions of the newly deceased are reviewed. If you have been a good person you will go straight to the heaven. On the other hand if you have committed good and evil in equal measure during your life you will be reborn back into this world. You proceed directly to Chamber 10 where you will be allocated a new rebirth. If you have committed more evil than good you will sent to one of the other chambers of hell to receive your punishment.
2nd Chamber. Kidnappers, mal practicing doctors, marriage cheaters, suicide committers will be punished here.
3rd Chamber. Those who disobey seniors, the dishonest, disloyal, immoral, cheats, prison breakers, seducers, forgers, false accountants and thieves will find that there are no namby-pamby judges giving out soft community service sentences here.
4th Chamber. This hell is for tax evaders, purveyors of fake medicines , cheating salesmen, bullies, deceivers, litter-bugs and those not taking care or the poor and elderly.
5th Chamber. Known as the howling hell, this is reserved for the stingy , those who like to fight and gamble, people who are jealous of the kind hearted, rapists, killers, human rights abusers, shooters of poultry and birds and destroyers of water sources.
6th Chamber. The great howling hell. For those who disrespect Buddha and other Gods, violate ethical practices, vandals and food wasters.
7th Chamber. The heating hell. For those who live lavishly, commit unethical business practices, raid tombs, have abortions, mislead juveniles, bully the weak and fabricate the truth.
8th Chamber. Intense heating hell. For those who cause fear, panic, sadness or worry to their parents or in-laws.
9th Chamber. The ultimate torment chamber! For those who set fire to homes, destroy others’ property, cause confusion, engage in abortion services, entice young men and rape young girls.
10th Chamber. This chamber is for those who are going to be reincarnated back into this world. The controller will determine whether you will be reborn rich or poor, male or female and so on based on the merits and demerits of your past actions. You will then be given a drink which will wipe out all memory of your past life.

The Temple:
The Temple’s first stage of development, costing an estimated RM12 million, is made up of an imposing traditional structure. It has tall red columns supporting an ornamental roof. The exterior wall carries many inscriptions that depict the life of the Reverend Chin Swee and his major charitable and supernatural works. Within the Temple, the statue of the Reverend Chin Swee placed in accordance with Feng Shui principles is seated at the northern part of the main hall with his face looking south. Behind the statue is a natural rock in a man-made flowing stream. The rock gives the necessary support to the statue while the stream provides clear cool mineral water throughout the year. This water has been named ‘Dragon Mineral Water’. At the temple in Penglai Village the water was said to have healed the sick. The Reverend Chin Swee’s birthday falls on the 6th day of Lunar New Year and is celebrated for ten days beginning from the first day of the Lunar New Year. Going forward and with the completion of these latest additions, the Chin Swee Caves Temple committee is planning for more events and celebrations aimed at depicting not only the good deeds of the Reverend Chin Swee but also the richness of the Malaysian Chinese culture.
