SUMMARY
=======
China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP) (Chinese: 中国工程物理研究院, nicknamed 九院) founded in October, 1958, is the research and manufacturing center of Chinese advanced technologies.
CAEP was initially located in Beijing. Its major departments were later relocated to Qinghai Province. In 1970, the major components moved to Sichuan Province. The Academy was formerly named Ninth Institute of Second Ministry of Mechanical Industry. It was later renamed CAEP. In China, the Ninth Institute is still well recognized.
Its headquarters is in the 839 area of Mianyang, which covers a land area of 5 km2. It's nicknamed Scientific Town. It has multiple branches in Beijing, Jiangyou, Chengdu and Shanghai.
The Academy currently has 12 research institutes and 15 national key laboratories. Its research areas include theoretical physics, plasma physics, engineering and material sciences, electronics and photo-electronics, materials chemistry and chemical engineering, computer science and computational mathematics, etc.
CAEP has over 10,000 researchers and technicians. Some prominent Chinese scientists used to be leaders of the academy, including Yu Min, Wang Ganchang, Deng Jiaxian, Zhu Guangya, Chen Nengkuan, Zhou Guangzhao, Guo Yonghuai, Cheng Kaijia, and Peng Huanwu. It currently has 14 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and 15 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and a number of outstanding scientists.

Mianyang is the second largest city in Sichuan Province, located in western China. It was recently named China's 3rd-most livable city.
Mianyang covers an area of over 20,000 km² and has a population of 5.2 million, with 600,000 people in the city proper. Mianyang's climate is damp subtropical and its annual average rainfall is 1100 mm. The average temperature is 16°C, with a maximum temperature of 39°C in summer and minimum of -5°C in winter. The city is conveniently served by transport, with highway and railway connections to several of China's major cities. Mianyang Airport has direct flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Kunming.
Mianyang is one of China's major centers for the electronics industry. It has many well-known research institutions, such as the China Academy of Engineering Physics and China Air Dynamics Research and Development Center. Many large-scale enterprises, such as Changhong Electronics Group Corporation, Jiuzhou Electronics Group, Shuangma Cement Group, and Changcheng Special Steel Company also have their home in Mianyang. There are 6 universities and colleges in the city, and it is well known as a science and technology centre.
Mianyang is noted for its beautiful scenery, long history, and deep cultural roots. It is the hometown of the famous poet Li Bai, and boasts many historical relics of the Three Kingdoms period.
Several minorities live in Mianyang, such as the Tibetan and Qiang people.

CHINESE SCIENTISTS DEVELOPING POWERFUL RADAR DEVICE TO DETECT TRACES OF STEALTH AIRCRAFT
Chinese scientists have reportedly tested a new military radar device that can generate powerful terahertz radiation capable of tracking concealed weapons in a crowd from hundreds of metres away.
According to a report by South China Morning Post, China North Industries Group Corporation tested a device that produces terahertz radiation last week at a military research facility in Chengdu, Sichuan province.
Terahertz radiation, or T-rays, can theoretically see through the composite materials that help hide stealthy jets and is widely used in industrial plants to spot product defects. The report says China’s biggest arms manufacturer is currently developing more powerful version of T-rays producing device to put on an early warning aircraft or satellite to identify and track military aircraft, including the US’ F-22 and F-35 stealth fighters.
Science and Technology Daily reported on Monday that this new device could generate stable, continuous radiation at an average level up to 18 watts, and terahertz pulses with peak power close to one megawatt, on par with some military radars.
“The radar-absorbent coatings on the F-35 will look as thin and transparent as stockings if [the Chinese radar] is as powerful as they claim,” a technical executive told the Post. The reported power of the radars is “more than a million times higher” than other terahertz machines — dubbed T-Rays — that have tried to measure the physical specifications of stealth coatings on F-35s, the executive added.
The new instrument was developed by the China Academy of Engineering Physics in Mianyang, the nation’s largest research institute for the development and production of nuclear weapons.
According to the academy’s website, efforts were under way to increase the device’s power output and shrink its size for military applications.

Yangtze Normal University:
Yangtze Normal University(YZNU) traditional Chinese is a full-time, comprehensive university under the administration of the Chongqing Municipal Government of the People’s Republic of China. The campus situated in Fuling District, at the conjunction of the Yangtze and Wu Rivers, the historic capital of the ancient Ba Tribe. This university is the only teachers’ college in the ecological and economic zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area & the minority area in Southeast Chongqing.
The history of YZNU dates back to 1901 during the reign of the Guangxu Emperor in the late Qing dynasty, as the Fuling Official Academy of Classical Learning. It was established as a college in 1982, was renamed Fuling Teachers College in 1993, promoted to university status in 2001 by merging Fuling Teachers College & Fuling Education Institute.
In 2006, Fuling Normal University changed it’s name to Yangtze Normal University with the ratification of the Ministry of Education. The university has achieved some honorable awards in recognition of its campus facilities, forestry programs and its commitment to community services, such as “Civilized School in Chongqing”, “Advanced Units of Social Welfare Activities by National Higher School Students” and “Advanced Units of Protecting Mother River”.
Fuling Teachers College is the setting of Peter Hessler’s memoir River Town: 2 Years on the Yangtze, completed and published after he served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer from 1996 to 1998. meanwhile, Fuling Teachers College was in the Jiangdong area, while now it is in the newly built Lidu neighborhood. There is a full-time enrollment of approximately 13,200 students, who can share a variety of teaching and laboratory facilities with a value over fifty million Yuan.
The university has around 1400 faculty and staff, including 720 full-time teachers, of whom 160 are associate professors, and 41 are professors. Moreover, there are more than 100 doctors and master’s degree holders, 20 part-time professors and 4 foreign teachers. Yangtze Normal University has made great strides in its building and research specialties. It comprises eighteen departments (or colleges), providing thirty five specialties for undergraduate students.
Since 1982, more than 31,000 students have graduated from this university and become the backbone teachers & the leaders in schools in Southeast Chongqing. Since 2001, This university has trained over 7000 teachers for primary and middle school in Chongqing.
