Indonesian Street Food Tour of Glodok (Chinatown) in Jakarta - DELICIOUS Indonesia Food!
►Check out 50 of the Best Indonesian Dishes:
Glodok is the Chinatown of Jakarta, and my wife and I decided to spend the day walking around Glodok and exploring some Indonesian street food throughout the day. At the end of the day, we also stopped by Fatahillah Square, with is an old Dutch square in colonial Jakarta, where you'll find some interesting buildings and some street food snacks as well.
Since we were staying at a hotel (here’s information on the hotel I stayed at: not too far from Glodok, we decided to beat the traffic and just walk over there. It didn’t take more than 15 minutes to walk, and soon we arrived in Jakarta’s Chinatown. Glodok is a very interesting area to walk around and explore. There are fresh markets and plenty of restaurants and food to choose from.
The Indonesian street food I tried on this tour was siomay, an Indonesian Chinese dish. From the back of a motorbike, I chose a few of the siomay dumplings he had steaming, and the cut them up and added some peanut sauce to the plate. The texture was a little mushy, but they were alright. Right opposite the siomay, the owner of an Indonesian vegetarian restaurant greeted me and asked if I might like to eat some of his vegetarian food. His vegetarian rendang was particularly good.
One of the most famous places to go in Glodok is Kopi Es Tak Kie, a legendary coffee shop. After wandering around a while we found it. I had a cup of coffee and also a plate of nasi campur from outside the shop.
We continued on our Indonesian street food tour throughout Glodok and I tried a sweet snack called kue ape, which is a green colored little pancake. Next, I had a variety of deep fried snacks including fried bananas, and fried breadfruit. They are definitely pretty greasy, but interesting to sample, and they are very popular street food snacks in Indonesia.
It probably wasn’t the greatest idea to walk, but we decided to walk over to Fatahillah Square. The traffic was pretty intense, but we made it. And along with checking out the old colonial buildings one of my main goals was to try kerak telor, which is a traditional Indonesian Betawi street food snack. Luckily I found it and it turned out to be a very interesting and amazing snack to watch being made!
Here’s the list of the things we ate and the prices:
Siomay - 15,000 IDR ($1.11)
Vegetarian food - 20,000 IDR ($1.48)
Kopi Es Tak Kie - 10,000 IDR ($0.73)
Nasi campur - 35,000 IDR ($2.58)
Kue ape - 1,000 IDR ($0.07) each
Fried snacks - 12,000 ($0.88)
Kerak telor - 20,000 IDR ($1.48) - Possibly overcharged? Do you think?
Hope you enjoyed the Indonesian street food tour of Glodok and Fatahillah Square, I sure enjoyed eating it!

I am back with another food video. In the attempt to find a better chinatown to show you guys, I went to a supposedly Chinatown inspired theme park in Bandung, West Java. It did disappoint me so bad!!! It didn't represent anything about China other than the ornaments, and a bit of Chinese food. Nonetheless, I did manage to overcome my anxiety of the day while filming in public and showed you the Chinese Indonesian food that exist in Indonesia. Hope you enjoyed this as much as I do :D

ABOUT ME
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi there!
I am Anissa Syifa Adriana, otherwise known as Syifa. I am a conversation connoisseur, Indonesian female solo traveler and make-up enthusiast. I started my first solo traveling in June 2014, a coincidence trip, where it was intended for someone I was very close to in the past. I never regret deciding to go because after that, I never look back.
I decided to leave Indonesia since August 2016, to do a long-term traveling. After being on the road for about 5 months, in January 2017 I was offered to teach English in Yinchuan, Northwest China. Instead of going back home, at that time I went straight to China from Vietnam carrying only the remaining USD 300 that I had in my bank account. Arrived in China for the first time, everything felt so intimidating and foreign at the same time. Since then, I was based in Yinchuan, Northwest China and had been loving it.
As of now, I am back on the road again to travel and make videos on Youtube. Thank you again for watching! I hope you get to enjoy the video as much as I am making it.
Let's keep it positive. Don't forget to like, share, comment and subscribe :)

SOME MONEY FACTS:
-Did you know that Indonesian households only manage to save an average of 8.5 percent of their total incomes, when analysts advise that at least 20 percent of your income should go towards savings?
-Indonesia is also characterized by the low financial literacy of its population.
Well, let’s change that! Saving has a lot of benefits—for travel, emergencies, school, but the most obvious being financial stability/security in the future. Even if you can’t save 20% of your income or allowance, saving a little bit is much better than not saving at all. So let’s start being wise with how we handle our money. A way you can save and store is by investing—that word doesn’t have to be as intimidating as it seems; we gave a brief and simple description as to how investing works, so keep reading!
INVESTING?
Investing is when one buys an asset with the hope that it will generate income or an increase in value over time. Basically, you buy an asset worth Rp. 10,000, and over time, that Rp. 10k becomes Rp. 11k, and if you keep it stored for longer, it might become Rp. 12k. A lot of people prefer investing over storing their money in banks because with investing, your money grows. There are some risks in investing, coz sometimes the market will drop meaning your Rp. 10k, might become Rp. 9k, but don’t worry because there are assets that are low in risk—mutual funds.
WHAT ARE MUTUAL FUNDS?
“Mutual funds are investment instruments that allow you to pool money together and invest in stocks, bonds and money market that might be difficult to purchase on your own. Typically, mutual funds are safer than directly investing in stocks or alternative investments such as P2P loans and can provide higher returns compared to bank savings or keeping cash.”
Investing is made so much easier and accessible with the help of Ajaib. Check out their website to learn more about them and the world of investing!
