Mastering Calligraphy in Suzhou, China
If you haven't heard of Suzhou, you need to this. This is the artistic center of China and it has been that way for 2500 years. The traditional culture of China is still so alive and vibrant in this lovely, well preserved ancient city, which has famous gardens, impressive IM Pei Suzhou Museum and of course, many master craftsman still practicing the arts of their forefathers.
I visited the city to learn more about the traditional culture from the skilled locals of Suzhou themselves. In this episode, I learn more about calligraphy from a master calligrapher and even get to try it out myself. Suzhou was famous with calligraphy, with one of the most well known art schools, the Wu School, being based right here many centuries ago.
We set up in a teahouse in the stunning Garden of Cultivation and stroke by stroke, I attempt to understand more about this art that was considered one of the highest arts in China.

Shanghai's Largest and Most Oppulant Shopping Mall: Global Harbor
This is the Global Harbor mall in the Putuo district of Shanghai just after it first opened. It is the largest mall in Shanghai, covering 480,000 square meters, and It is part of a growing trend of opulent, luxury malls that are appearing all around China. It is full of western stores like Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Starbucks, H&A, and Gucci. Apparently, it was designed to look like a ship, but except for the paintings of such I didn't get that impression.
Hanjie Wanda Plaza -- Wuhan, China
Dazzling the most populous city in Central China, world renowned architecture practice UNStudio combines both contemporary and classical architectural elements in the design of Hanjie Wanda Plaza, a luxurious shopping mall with recognizable designer labels and expensive goods. The Plaza features a unique façade that is furnished with over 40,000 hand-crafted globes made of stainless steel and white alabaster, positioned in relation to each other. Enabled by the powerful e:cue control system, the iconic façade is transformed into glittering media façade, giving the impression that the globes are cascading like water or folding like a silk scarf in the wind. Accomplishing one of the major media façade attractions in China, the project is the epitome of highly flexible media façade system. Specially designed to easily output video content on LED media installations, 65 pieces of e:cue Video Micro Converter are selected to control and project nearly 80,000 pixels of media content over the massive façade measuring more than 22,000m2. In addition, the Patchelor tool in e:cue Lighting Application Suite allows the content designer to use a background picture for easy pixel mapping. The versatile software simplifies patching large matrix and fixture setup. The intelligent e:cue control system is able to integrate with 3rd party video server, making real-time video processing possible and enabling dual-layer video alignment and calibration of color reproduction. Traxon Technologies again demonstrated the superiority of its e:cue control system in glamourising the Hanjie Wanda Plaza project to bring a sparkle to the fast growing city of Wuhan.

Beijing 4K - Walk along the Xidan S St - China 中国北京西单南大街/长安街行走视频
Xidan is a major traditional commercial area in Beijing, China. It is located in the Xicheng District.
The Xidan commercial district incorporates the Xidan Culture Square, North Xidan Street, as well as many supermarkets and department stores. The Xidan Cultural Square is the largest venue for cultural events in downtown Beijing.
Xidan began to develop in the Ming Dynasty as an area alongside the passage for traders from Southwestern China to enter Beijing.
Restaurants and shops were eventually built for these merchants. Eventually, as the Western part of the city became the residential area for officials, Xidan became a commercial area. The location of several government agencies when Beijing was under the administration of the Republic of China also helped Xidan's economic growth.
The area began to experience massive growth in the 1950s, as the population of Beijing began to move westwards. By the 1970s, Xidan, along with Qianmen and Wangfujing, became the three major commercial areas in Beijing.
Currently, the area is known throughout Beijing as a shopping area. Many malls and department stores have stores within the area, the oldest of which is the China branch of the Taiwanese department store Chungyo.
Xidan is also home to Lingjing Alley, which, at 32m (34 yards), is considered to be the broadest hutong in Beijing.

A Mall In China
Malls in China are not built like they are in America. They are very big and stretch for nine or more stories. There seems to be more variety too, as there are actually a large mix of foreign (non-Chinese) vendors.

Suzhou City Centre(s)
One city, two centres. Suzhou's modern Industrial area of new apartments, leisure facilities and department stores vs. the 'old' shopping district. The newly developed area appears to be a bit of a ghost town whereas the old shopping centre, not far from Pingjiang Rd, was buzzing with activity. Who's using the newly developed area, who are the facilities for and who is moving out of the old town into the new??
