Guilin Mountains, China - Wonder of Asia / 桂林山
Guilin Mountains, limestone mountains and incredible rock formations spring up in various shapes and sizes all along the Li River, China.
Arriving in Guilin, China
China Diary -
Guilin (population less than 1,000,000), the largest city of the most southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China.
Guìlín is a prefecture-level city in the northeast of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, sitting on the west bank of the Li River. Its name means forest of Sweet Osmanthus, owing to the large number of fragrant Sweet Osmanthus trees located in the city. Guilin is best-known for its natural wonders and spectacular scenery, which encompasses the Li River and the massive limestone formations that line its banks. Every corner you look is picture postcard perfect! There is an ancient saying here - East or west, Guilin scenery is the best.

China is AMAZING – our customers love visiting and so do we. You can walk on the Great Wall, see Pandas in Chengdu, meet the Terracotta Warriors in Xian, cruise the Yangtze River…there are so many wonderful and fabulous things to do that it’s hard to fit it all into one holiday. That’s ok - you can always go back for another one, and it’s highly likely that after one visit you will want to!

We challenge you to watch this video and not smile. Here we are again in the park in Xian, China joining the locals in their morning exercise – can you spot Nicola?

The Terracotta Warriors in Xian, China are an incredible sight. Hundreds of life sized warriors (no one warrior is the same) made from terracotta that were buried with an Emperor to protect him in the afterlife. We (Nikki and Nicola) loved our visit here in July 2017 and found it very fascinating. We made this short video where our gorgeous tour guide Xing Ding Yin explains the formation of the army.

This is one of our favourite videos. Nikki and I (Nicola) took it on our recent visit to China.
In Asia it is really common for people to go to the park and do their morning exercises together. Here in the local square in Xian, you can see everyone doing their own thing, having fun and respecting each other. There is something happening in every direction you look.

50Fotos -- Guilin & Li River, China
50Fotos of Guilin, China, including a cruise on the Li River through mystic and beautiful sculptured limestone hills. The river valley's karst geology is often featured in traditional Chinese art. Also includes scenes from Yangshuo and the Reed Flute Cave. Photos by Greg Knudsen on a trip with Overseas Adventure Travel in April 2008. The OAT tour was supposed to go to Tibet, but the borders were closed at that time, so Guilin was substituted. See the other 50Fotos slideshows.

10 Best Places to Visit in China - Travel Video
China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Visitors making their first trip to China usually stick to the larger cities. More experienced visitors to the Middle Kingdom will strike out in other directions, where traveling may be a bit more frustrating because of the language barrier, but most definitely doable for independent travelers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in China:
CHINA TRIP (GUILIN, BEIJING, SHANGHAI)
We go on a journey around China. Guilin, Beijing, Shanghai. From the slow trains to the fast trains, to the walking and to the running. From the Forbidden City to the Great Wall, missing our trains, sleeping in the railway station. The adventure never stopped.
