Singapore Visitor Center, opposite Somerset MRT station, Singapore. This place provides free Wi-Fi for tourists!!
This is a brand new Singapore Visitor Center, opened 17 Feb 2015. Housed in a Peranakan building, right opposite Somerset MRT station.
I check out the Visitor center and the friendly tourism ambassador shows me how she can make good recommendations for the tourist, using the new interactive computer system, and even print out a coloured map and itinerary for the tourist. This is really cool!

Singapore Visitor Centre Relocates to orchardgateway@emerald
A one-stop touch-point catering and customising to visitor needs
Singapore, 16 February 2015 – The Singapore Visitor Centre (SVC) will have a new home at 216 Orchard Road; situated next to orchardgateway@emerald, from 17 February. Set in a two-storey conserved Peranakan shophouse in the heritage-rich Emerald Hill area, the centre is designed with the visitor experience in mind, from the spatial layout to the range of services available.
The SVC will provide more services, including the sale of arts and entertainment tickets, on top of existing tours, accommodation and attractions booking options. It will also house a retail space that offers locally-designed souvenirs - curated based on what one can Eat, See, Hear and Learn in Singapore. Visitors can bring home a variety of souvenirs that take inspiration from traditional local food such as kueh tutu to Singapore's distinctive HDB flats.
A key feature of the new Centre is the use of technology to help visitors explore more of Singapore. Besides two large screens that display a variety of places of interest and events in Singapore, there are four interactive information kiosks that allow visitors to first browse and select places to explore, before putting them together in a digital itinerary. This personalised itinerary can then be printed immediately and/or emailed to the visitors' smartphones. Complimentary WiFi will also be available for visitors to stay connected within the SVC, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
STB Director, Visitor Experience & Capability Development, Ms Choo Huei Miin said, The new Singapore Visitor Centre aims to be a one-stop service and information touch-point that adds to visitors' overall experience in Singapore. We hope that, through the effective use of technology coupled with personalised and warm assistance provided by our Customer Service Officers, visitors will have a better understanding of what Singapore can offer and be inspired to explore and uncover our many hidden gems.
While the first level of the centre is devoted to key visitor services, the second level is an event space that will be open in the second quarter of the year. There will be temporary exhibitions and interactive installations that will present different facets of Singapore, adding layers to deliver a compelling Singapore story.
The new SVC will replace the current one located at the junction of Cairnhill Road and Orchard Road, which will cease operations on 17 February. Visitors can also approach SVC@ION Orchard and Chinatown Visitor Centre @ Kreta Ayer Square. For more information on locations and operating hours, please visit the YourSingapore website at:

Singapore's Chinatown | A walking tour | A must visit place this coming Chinese New Year
Chinatown in Singapore is a sharp contrast to the rest of the city, with low rise buildings and culture bursting out onto the streets, from the fragrant smells of traditional cuisine to the bold red and gold tones that run through the neighbourhood.
This is an area that’s proud of its heritage and has it very much on display. There are ornate Chinese, Buddhist and Hindu temples, museums galore and plenty of opportunities to soak up the bustling streets lined with old shophouses.
The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is a remarkable 4-storey temple. When entering the gate, you’ll immediately notice the stunning main hall with its high ceiling. The bell tower and drum tower are on the same floor.
The main focus for most visitors is the solid gold 2-metre stupa on the 4th floor which is the place where the sacred relic is kept. Continuing up to the roof, there is a pagoda that has a large prayer wheel. The temple is built in a style based on the Buddhist mandala and integrated with the Buddhism of the Tang dynasty.

In addition to telling you what is awesome about each hawker centre, I will also tell you how to get there, and which ones just received the Michelin star and Michelin Bib Gourmand awards. Colorful Chinese shophouses selling Asian street food & souvenirs under shaded canopies.
These busy streets encapsulate all the sights and sounds that visitors expect of Chinatown, with hundreds of stalls selling everything from silk robes to lucky cats. There are plenty of ‘Made in China’ goods on display and lanterns swaying in the breeze above your head. There’s also a fantastic range of street food carts amongst the shopping, with fresh dim sum and crispy duck.
Remember to haggle with a smile if you want the best price. The market is open during the day, but it looks its most picturesque at dusk, with the lights shining brightly and the sound of hawkers tempting you to check out their wares.
It should come as no surprise that many of the stalls sell similar types of souvenirs. These range from somewhat tacky silk robes and waving lucky cats to some impressive lacquerware and handmade fans with calligraphy drawn on them. Remember to haggle with a smile if you want the best price.
There’s also a fantastic range of street food carts among the shopping, with fresh dim sum and crispy duck. For the best range of street eats, head to the designated Food Street on Smith Street.
The market is mostly open during the day from around 10am, but it's most picturesque at dusk, with the lights shining brightly and the sound of hawkers tempting you to check out their wares. Just strolling the evening streets is a wonderful experience. The colonial architecture, coupled with the hanging red lanterns, is an unmistakable snapshot of Singaporean culture.
The market starts to wind down around 8pm to 9pm, but some stalls stay open a little later, particularly those selling snacks and drinks.

'Lucky store' at Chinatown's Chinese New Year bazaar goes for S$15,800
Vendors in Chinatown are already getting in the mood for Chinese New Year. One vendor has paid S$15,800 for a lucky stall at Chinatown's Festive Street Bazaar --
this is the highest in seven years. The stall sits at the junction between Smith Street and Trengganu Street. It has been coined by the vendors as the “lucky stall” because it is a hotspot for visitors at the market and draws in the most traffic. Winner of the bid was Madam Lee Ah Sow, a flower seller. In total, there were 41 bids for the 24 stalls that were open for public bidding. The bazaar will run from Jan 3 to 24, 2020.
