China Races to Develop Novel Coronavirus Vaccine During Lunar New Year
The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has started developing vaccines against the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), an official with the center said Sunday.
The CDC has isolated the virus and is currently identifying seed strain, said Xu Wenbo, head of the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention under the CDC, adding that they are also screening drugs targeting pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus.
Meanwhile the CDC is closely monitoring the virus to study how it mutates.
Every virus has its own special characteristics, and according to what mankind has learned about coronaviruses, the virus mutates as it spreads in the human body. This is what we've learned from other, previous coronaviruses. This time we are closely monitoring things but because of the difference between coronaviruses and other viruses, we've not seen clear mutation of the virus thus far, whether from environmental samples or samples from patients. But like I said this is what we know [as of now] about this virus that we're dealing with. Base on virology studies, the virus would not become how it is now without any mutation. It's just that the differences [caused by mutation] among this virus is very small, less than one percent, so we need time to find out exactly where it mutated. So as of now we are further monitoring and observing things, said Gao Fu, director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

China to Extend New Year’s Holiday to Curb Fast-Spreading Virus
China will extend the current Lunar New Year Holiday for an unspecified period of time to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus that has killed at least 56 people in the country and continues to trigger new infections around the globe.
The holiday is a time when many Chinese leave large cities like Wuhan, where the disease broke out, to return to their hometowns, and the more than 3 billion trips can help spread the disease. The country will extend the holiday “to a proper extent” beyond Jan. 30, state media Xinhua News reported Sunday, citing a government statement. The period began Jan. 24.
An epidemic response committee led by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang earlier Sunday said extending the holiday was an “appropriate measure” to control the spread of the virus.

Chinese New Year for Kids | What is the Lunar New Year? | 2020 Year of the Rat
Happy Chinese New Year! 2019 is the Year of the Pig, and 2020 is the Year of the Rat! We call it Chinese New Year, but the Lunar New Year is celebrated in many Asian countries. It's based on the phases of the moon! The first day of Chinese New Year begins on the New Moon that appears between January 21st and February 20th.
Our friend the Moon is here to explain this beautiful and exciting holiday. We should say holidays, because the Lunar New Year celebration lasts for 15 days! It's the longest national holidays. Many people travel from all over to visit with their families, and kids even get a whole month off from school!
The Lunar New Year is associated with the Chinese Zodiac. There is a small cycle of 12 years, each year denoted by a special animal sign. These are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Then the cycle begins again!
In this video, we'll learn about the traditional activities that take place on each of the 15 days of the Lunar New Year celebrations, including eating special foods, setting off fireworks, receiving red envelopes with money inside, and lighting special red lanterns.
If you'd like to learn more about the animal of the year 2109, the pig, we have a special video all about them!

Chinese New Year 2019 Lion Dance, Hong Kong
Lion dance ( 舞獅) is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune.
